Never had a thank you card from anyone whose wedding I attended, would never have expected one either.

The cards were for the gift not for just turning up!;)

If you've never been thanked for a gift then you must know some very ill mannered people!

Ive never been to a wedding without a gift of some kind with me, even if I were going to just the evening reception.

I wouldnt consider the friends whose weddings I attended ill mannered, Im sure Ive been thanked for an engagement gift in the past via a thank you note, but not a wedding.

This ^^^ I have never known anyone write thank-you letters for their wedding presents. Surely the couple thank everyone at the wedding reception?

When I was younger, living in a very close-knit community, most couples waited for the photos (professional or amateur), assembled a wedding album and went round showing it off & saying thank you at the same time (they would also take orders for extra photos)
Relatives who couldn't attend were sent a slice of wedding cake in the post (you used to be able to buy special boxes!) & a thank you.

Now, as everyone is more scattered, I would expect a thank you note of some kind. A nice variation is a photo-collage card (taps in to the tradition I mentioned above) which takes a few weeks to order, but is really nice - I have a few on display & really like them.

I am fascinated by this thread - rather like Xmas traditions, it arouses strong feelings and creates opportunities for misunderstandings. I'd agree that the "wedding industry" doesn't help!

Never? Of all the Weddings that my family and I have been too, we have received a thank you card for nearly all of them, and I sent them out after mine.

It's basic common courtesy and good manners IMO.

I have to agree but sadly not everyone sees it that way.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Obviously not but it does disappoint me. I've accepted that a phone call/text/email have sometimes taken the place of a written letter/card but to not acknowledge a gift at all seems really bad form to me.

I think most do, I've never been to a wedding without getting a thank you card a couple of weeks later or after the honeymoon.
