But the payment card rules are the same as the direct debit rules ...
I don't get why you're receiving any letters at all. When I required a licence, I never received any letters until one month before the licence was due to be renewed. And then when on went onto the payment card / direct debit rules I never got any letters at all except to update my payment schedule once per year.
If they haven't cancelled your licence, and you're up to date with payments, why are you even being contacted? You'll tell me it's because they are a bunch of aggressive thugs. Personally, I think it's because there's more to this than you're telling us or you simply don't understand what you've done wrong.
Maybe if you did, they wouldn't be sending aggressive letters to you.
Ignorance is bliss
How many posts do I have to make BEFORE the message gets through
I am NOT in arrears ( unless I accept TVL rules )
I have the letters to PROVE I've been getting them for the last 6 months
My current licence has not been canceled as it's FULLY paid up
IF you are paying by DD that is why you don't get letters cause you have given them permission to take what they want from your bank
Starting probably 6 months BEFORE your current licence expires and your quite happy with your arrangement
So why are you even commenting
This post is for the many thousands getting steadily more aggressive letters from TVL they even admit that on their web site
Mark my words these letters ARE going to be toned down because of me bringing it to the attention of Pipa Doubtfire Head of revenue management at the BBC0 -
Mmm.. I dont know, the crime was no TV Licence at the address, then there was one at the address surely the crime has been rectified? If I owed someone £100 say, and My partner paid them the £100 I wouldnt take them to court for the same £100 if you know what I mean? I think Its worth a day in court? Its a principal thing, rather than not wanting to pay the fine0

From reading what you have said, it looks like you were caught out because they "made" you sign a form because you believed them when they said it was an offence not to sign it
You say the information given by others in this thread is misleading, but it is in fact quite correct and matches what I have managed to research from official sources legal jargon.
It might be time for you to start taking on what has been said, otherwise your "campaign" about the type/tone of letters they use (which I would support) will get nowwhere.
The " letter I signed " had PRINTED on it " if I did not sign it they WILL start court action Unlike so many people in the uk I DONT sign ANYTHING without reading first
I'm the one that read it and I DONT sign things if I don't want to0 -

That'd be like saying I could avoid a prosecution for driving without insurance, by taking out a policy, immediately after I was caught.
The law doesn't work that way.If I owed someone £100 say, and My partner paid them the £100 I wouldn't take them to court for the same £100 if you know what I mean?
That's different because the £100 would be a civil debt, whereas LF evasion is a criminal offence.I think Its worth a day in court?
He had his chance for a day in court, when he received the summons.
He's now been convicted, presumably in his absence (I take it he didn't attend court and plead Not Guilty?), and fined for the offence of LF evasion. Its a principal thing, rather than not wanting to pay the fine
He can choose to stand by his principles (in which case he can ultimately expect a spell in prison), or he can pay the fine.0 -
murphyb007 wrote: »Hi, I am sorry for Jumping in on this forum, I have a bit of a problem (or the partner) The partner who I live with at the same address was caught by a Tv Licence inspector and giving so long to pay. I would deal with all the bills so I went on and got a licence at £29.10 a month payable by Direct Debit. Which I have been doing since April. So there is a licence at the address we live at. Next thing a few months later she gets a court summons and a fine to pay. I sent letters and spoke to the courts and TV Licencing and I keep getting passed back and forward. Now, she got a letter asking for it to be paid in full or face a week in Court, She called again and was told the same! What is going on? There is a licence at the address and the court threat was addressed immediately and a licence paid for the year? Why is this happening? Is there anything I can do or is there anyone who has went through this? Thanks
Thank god there is someone on here that has felt the might of TVL and it PROVES what I said IGNORE at your peril The ridicules thing is you DIDNT ignore it
My suggestion is try and get the email/ contact details of the boss at TVL you may find it on CEO email.com a very useful site :-) OR write to your local MP as that's how my campaign started following that I had a reply from Pipa Doubtfire head of revenue management at the BBC. this may get removed as it did earlier in this thread Her email is
pipa.doubtfire@bbc.co.uk
Good luck let me know how you get on :-)0 -
The " letter I signed " had PRINTED on it " if I did not sign it they WILL start court action
This is a new letter to me.
Could you upload a, suitably redacted, scan please?I'm the one that read it and I DON'T sign things if I don't want to
So you are saying you wanted to sign it?0 -

Strange how I think we're all thinking the same about you.I am NOT in arrears ( unless I accept TVL rules )
Well, sadly for you, it's TVL that make the rules and not you. You can't just apply your own rules and then complain when you get letters threatening to take you to court for non-payment.My current licence has not been canceled as it's FULLY paid up
Except it's not, because you are in arrears on your payment plan.IF you are paying by DD that is why you don't get letters cause you have given them permission to take what they want from your bank
Starting probably 6 months BEFORE your current licence expires and your quite happy with your arrangement
Now who doesn't read? I don't even HAVE a TV licence any more, having no need for one.
And I don't get any letters at all or any visits. So why are you even commenting
So that I can correct the misinformation you are posting, and hopefully prevent anyone being mislead.0 -

It's happening because your partner has been convicted of LF evasion, and has been fined.
Buying a licence, after the event, does not cancel the conviction or the fine.
Yes, pay the fine.
I'm rather surprised at your comments
IF there is a licence at the property AND only one TV then his partner should NOT have had the fine in the first place
If your comments are right then it means if someone moves in to an already licensed property with three adult children Do you believe each adult needs a licence ?
But then maybe all the so called misinformation comments aimed at me Should also be aimed at you0
