And your CERTAIN that is upto date ????

I'm reading directly from legislation.gov.uk , so yes.

By the way I don't really care what it says It still doesn't condone or permit TVL to aggressively go after non payers or even worse those that have a current licence

    I didn't say it did.

    I didn't say you did
May because I've hardly ever gone on here so not used to discussion boards
I can't believe how disjointed threads can get :-(
Also it's a shame one or two seem to find the need to be rude to get their point over :-(

I'm really NOT interested in the DIRECT DEBIT rules and they have NOT cancelled my licence

But the payment card rules are the same as the direct debit rules ...
Just to repeat the whole point of this thread is the ever increasing aggressive letters starting around 6 months into a CURRENT licence

I don't get why you're receiving any letters at all. When I required a licence, I never received any letters until one month before the licence was due to be renewed. And then when on went onto the payment card / direct debit rules I never got any letters at all except to update my payment schedule once per year.

If they haven't cancelled your licence, and you're up to date with payments, why are you even being contacted? You'll tell me it's because they are a bunch of aggressive thugs. Personally, I think it's because there's more to this than you're telling us or you simply don't understand what you've done wrong.
    And I don't care about " the rules "

Maybe if you did, they wouldn't be sending aggressive letters to you.

    Kayak10 -

From reading what you have said, it looks like you were caught out because they "made" you sign a form because you believed them when they said it was an offence not to sign it :(

You say the information given by others in this thread is misleading, but it is in fact quite correct and matches what I have managed to research from official sources legal jargon.

It might be time for you to start taking on what has been said, otherwise your "campaign" about the type/tone of letters they use (which I would support) will get nowwhere.

I know there seems to be a theory that if you give up watching TV, the licensing people hound you ever after, but that's not been my experience. I stopped watching TV last February, informed them, they sent a letter back saying it had been noted and if I did get a TV that I would need to get a license and that was it. Not heard from them since.

I have to say I agree with the above.

When I made the decision to stop watching or recording live broadcasts, I simply filled in the "request a refund" form and stated the reason I was requesting one - that I no longer watch or record live broadcasts.

I received a prompt, polite, reply back giving me a cheque and informing me that should I decide to start watching live TV again I would need to purchase a new licence. That's coming up to almost two years ago and I've not heard anything since.

Should I receive a letter reminding me that I may need to purchase a TV licence, I will simply put it straight in the recycling box the same way I do to all junk mail attempting to sell me things I do not need or require.

I did that and received the refund. According to normal business practice, the fact that I have informed them of my LLF status should have been the end of the matter.

Lucky you. They must like is for some reason because we've had a threat-o-gram every month since November and one actual visitation. I shut the door in it's face, but still, their letters annoy me. I use them to light the fire.

  • Hi, I am sorry for Jumping in on this forum, I have a bit of a problem (or the partner) The partner who I live with at the same address was caught by a Tv Licence inspector and giving so long to pay. I would deal with all the bills so I went on and got a licence at £29.10 a month payable by Direct Debit. Which I have been doing since April. So there is a licence at the address we live at. Next thing a few months later she gets a court summons and a fine to pay. I sent letters and spoke to the courts and TV Licencing and I keep getting passed back and forward. Now, she got a letter asking for it to be paid in full or face a week in Court, She called again and was told the same! What is going on? There is a licence at the address and the court threat was addressed immediately and a licence paid for the year? Why is this happening? Is there anything I can do or is there anyone who has went through this? Thanks

I've had one almost every month, for 4.5 years, including 2 months when I received 2 Threat-O-Grams each.
    and one actual visitation.

I've had 12, and been in for 4 of them.
I use them to light the fire.

    I keep mine for posterior.

Presumably not in the same envelope.

It's happening because your partner has been convicted of LF evasion, and has been fined.

Buying a licence, after the event, does not cancel the conviction or the fine.
Is there anything I can do

    Yes, pay the fine.
