In that case you are overpaying.

Since you already have an existing licence you should be on the £12 per month schedule now. That's less than £3 per week.

How many times do I need to repeat the same comments ????
The RULES the TVL follow is 6 months in ADVANCE and 6 months in ARREARS
So according to TVL rules I am approx 5 months in arrears as per their aggressive letters

You make out your such an expert in these things yet you ARE very wrong
To be fair, I actually said that modesty forbade me claiming to be an expert.
They start DEMANDING payments approx 6 months before the end of your licence...
    Yes, that's how it works.
... to be completed approx 6 months into the new licence Well it was certainly like that in my case.
No. It only runs like that for the first 6 months.
I did NOT come off the scheme Unless you call refusing to start paying in advance " coming off the scheme " ?
It doesn't really matter what *I* say. Do they call it that? I suspect they do.

Can I give you some advice? If your tone and misunderstanding on this thread is anything to go by, it's not surprising that these companies are taking advantage of you. There is no substitute for understanding their rules, and where necessary using their rules against them. You will save yourself much hassle in the long run.

One extra thing the BBC claims they don't advertise
Radio 2 has just done a good ten minute piece on Timpsons shoe/key cutting shops singing their praises
If that's not blatant advertising I don't know what is ????

In answer yet again you ARE wrong cornucopia
I have taken this from the last threatening letter
I quote " your schedule table on the left hand side shows the remaining payments you need to make for your TV licence Any due are highlighted.
The payments received table shows payments you have made towards your licence
Your TV licence will remain valid until it expires on 31 July 2015 as long as payments on your schedule are made " end of quote
The dates and money are 28/06/2014 at the rate of £9.75
Then every TWO weeks until 27/12/2014 followed by £9.00 on 10/01/2015
As I said paid in full SIX MONTHS in advance of end of licence
The reason it started end of June is because I ignored their aggressive demands Except taking it up with my MP in march and it took the BBC until late may to reply

The scheme is a compromise. The licence was originally payable 12 months in advance only. You may remember parents/grandparents collecting TV licence stamps to save up for their licences.

They wanted a DD scheme and came up with this. On the plus side, you get a fairly consistent payment every month (if you follow the rules) On the minus side, it's way too complicated, especially if payments are missed. It's set up like this so that there is no financial benefit to paying monthly compared to paying annually.

Once the scheme is up and running properly, the payments are roughly £12 per month, or £3 per week. But you have to follow their rules and pay part of the year in advance. If you don't, they will recalculate and have you pay more to re-qualify for the scheme (which is what they are doing).

Do you really think that if everyone had to pay fully in advance they would put up with it?

The whole point of my thread is as you say " you have to follow their rules "
What you forgot to add is if you don't You get ever increasing aggressive letters That is what I'm trying and hope to change
They should NOT be allowed to work on scare tactics in MY opinion and as already said the head of revenue management from the BBC

I think it depends on where you live, whether you are a student or not, and general luck of the draw.

There is also some suggestion that women are particularly targeted, either by TVL staff preference, because they are more likely to open the door, by some quirk in the system, or a combination of all three.

I guess it does depend on all sorts. I am a woman BTW.:)

The whole reason you're getting your knickers in a twist is because you're trying to pay using the direct debit scheme but don't want to follow the direct debit rules.

If you don't want to pay "six months in advance" then simply stop paying by direct debit and pay the full amount in advance instead, just like everyone did before the direct debit option was introduced.

Once you pay for your license in full, you'll hear nothing more from them until the month before your licence is due to expire at which point you can pay the full amount again. No threatening letters, nothing.

It's a real shame folk on here do NOT read before they comment
Number 1 I have NEVER said I pay by DD I certainly would NOT give TVL access to my bank to take what they see fit ( before anyone shouts I know they are supposed to tell you what they are taking b4 they do ) I repeat SUPPOSED TO
I keep it in MY control by paying via a payment card
2 IF I had money to throw around I would pay in full
You might be one if the lucky ones
I'm fighting on behalf of the thousands on limited income like me
AND before anyone takes a pop at me
I've worked and paid my dues for 43 years without a break

There is an option where you can pay quarterly without paying extra for the first 6 months. I know that because I'm on that option.

They do charge a £1.50 (or thereabouts) quarterly service charge though.
