I AM paying £ 5.00 WEEKLY from last week

In that case you are overpaying.

Since you already have an existing licence you should be on the £12 per month schedule now. That's less than £3 per week.

And it is only an idiot will allow himself to be threatened or embarrassed by TVL staff if he knows he does not need a license.

If I do not need a license I will stop communicating with them, everytime I receive a letter from TVL I will bin it and never open it. I will never allow them to enter my property, I will never answer the door for them.

I will let all of the desk and leg work to be done by them, let them exhaust all their resources until they give up. Sorted

Are there really people still paying for a TV licence to one of the most corrupt and abusive companies in the world?:eek:

They should be ashamed of themselves.

I'm proud to say I've never paid for a TV licence in my life.

public forum, public debate, or do you think its he who SHOUTS loudest wins

do please follow your own advice

so your real beef is you don't want to pay for a licence at all because it is not "good value". Complaints over "in advance" and letter "tone" are just tangential

I agree it would be good if we got value for money As we DONT from the BBC Also the licence was originally set up to pay the running costs
But as it's LAW to have one I pay for it I just wanted to find out if others think the same way as I do and in principle it seems they do

I guess you didn't read my original post It is to do with the aggressive letters that start around 6 MONTHS before the old licence expires I believe this is in law but get the impression it's advisory to the BBC but as usual TVL have taken it as actual

This payment schedule is defined in legislation. The BBC can recommend it be changed (and IIRC, the BBC Trust did just that). But it ultimately comes down to Government to agree it, and push through changes.

Many, many people have written to their MPs, and I hope they will continue to do so. Like you, I was optimistic when I wrote to my old MP - especially since he was a lawyer in his previous career. Unfortunately, it came to nothing, or rather it came to an imbecilic response from the Minister (Ed Vaizey as it then was) that law enforcement was a matter covered by editorial independence and that the Government could not intervene.

I think when you get a response like that, you draw the conclusion that direct action is the only answer. (Unfortunately, the 250000-strong Facebook campaign was closed down, too).

If TVL staff come to your home and noone answers the door for them; they find nothing, after a few attempts I believe they will be thinking twice to come to your home again. Doing this they have wasted their resources.

They will keep sending you letters as all of these letters are generated by computer and cost them very little for massive productions and delivery.

But if you never open it, never read it you will never feel embarrassed threatened, or harassed. Doing this you avoid wasting unnecessary resources on your part.

My last post on this for the time-being...

Most people who are convicted of the offence don't even turn up to court. They are therefore convicted by default in their absence.

If they attended Court to plead guilty and state mitigation, the system would grind to a halt.

If they examined the cases against them, and took practical, technical and legal objections to Court, the system would grind to a halt.

And, yes, part of the issue is people on forums like this implying that they have no chance or that TVL have powers that they do not have.

Ignorance is no defence, but it's no solution either.

Just goes to show the BBC and TVL think they can take no notice of their customers
Like I believe the name and contact for Pipa was removed from this site also
I hope eventually we get a government in power that has the gumption to take on the might and power of the BBC :-)

I did read your original post, and as you're referring to your payments NOW before your old licence has expired, then you should be paying less than £3 per week. Not £5 per week somehow on a special reduced deal.
