  • Good evening everyone. I am sorry I haven't posted for a couple of days, but at the moment I have a lot of hospital appointments that are taking a long time out of my day. I am trying to keep to plan still although they are mainly over the lunchtime so am eating out. Not entirely synless but I am doing my best. I have thought of taking a packed lunch tomorrow; although they said this one shouldn't be more than 1/2hr. We'll see.

Breakfasts have been the same as usual - all on plan.
Lunches are where things haven't been right - chosen salads but lots of dressings.
Dinners all OK - last night Chilli con carne
Tonight Pork chop and lots of veggies from the garden.

Syns - 2 digestive biscuits this pm

Snacking on tomatoes and fruit. Planning on having beef casserole tomorrow for dinner.

Well, just had my options... and two muller lights and my other HEXB benefit bar.

I finally feel full though and I'm pretty sure over the day I've hit 1/3 SF

    Bedtime shortly

    Tomorrow

B - Bacon, egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, maybe HEXB toast

D - Ham and egg salad and... one small slice of pizza  guesstimating 10 syns and counting as a HEXA

T - Either pea curry and rice or speed soup, fruit if still hungry

    HEXA - Cheese on pizza
HEXB - bread or benefit bars

Syns Pizza  it's a work thing though. I promise I will bin the crust

    Evening all

maman (and everyone else actually) can you remember our discussion about take away portions a wile back? I mentioned how in my old group we were told SW calls an 'average portion' about half of whatever you get from the take away whilst others said they call the whole serving an average portion...well i think you may well be right!

Looking up lower syn options for curries (ended up with a take away tonight and I chose this over Pizza Hut I so deserve a gigantic gold star for that!) I found an old post on minimins which says the syn values for most curries are for, generally, over 300g portions (apparently as listed in the older books around 2010)...now I weighed mine and the portion I usually take out of the containers is actually only 160g so half that! I couldn't believe it - doesn't look that the values for many have changed much either. Here's the list from that post note all syn values are for EE:

    (dish) (serving) (syn value)
    beef madras 400g 11
    bombay potatoes 340g 7
    chapati each (average) 7.5
    chicken bhuna 330g 11
    chicken biryani 380g 12.5
    chicken curry 390g 11.5
    chicken dhansak 350g 6.5
    chicken jalfrezi 350g 8.5
    chicken kashmiri 350g 9.5
    chicken korma 360g 16.5
    Chicken Makhani 380g - 16.5
    Chicken Pasanda 370g - 20
    Chicken Saag 360g - 11
    Chicken Tandoori 340g - 9
    Chicken Tikka Balti 375g - 11.5
    Chicken Tikka Masala 360g - 14.5
    Chicken Vindaloo 360g - 8
    Chickpea Dahl 350g - 5
    Cucumber Raita 1 tbspn - 1
    Gobi Aloo Saag 320g - 11
    Lamb Bhuna 350g - 12
    Lamb Biryani 450g - 20.5
    Lamb Pasanda 350g - 21.5
    Lamb Rogan Josh 360g - 6.5
    Lime Pickle 1 tbsp - 1.5
    Mango Chutney 1tbsp - 2
    Naan Plain - average each - 20
    Naan Peshwari - average each - 25
    Onion Bhaji - average each - 8.5
    Onion Sambal 1 tbsp - 0.5
    Paratha - average each - 12
    Poppadoms - average each - 4
    Prawn Bhuna 380g - 10
    Prawn Biryani 425g - 15
    Rice Pilau 180g - 2.5
    Rice Plain 300g - FREE
    Samosas meat 2 small - 12.5
    Samosas vegetable 2 small - 7.5
    Vegetable Biryani 420g - 11.5
    Vegetable Jalfrezi 375g - 7.5
    Vegetable Curry 380g - 9
    Vegetable Korma 380g - 15

In theory, basing it on syn values not changing too much, it means the rogan josh i just had with plain rice is actually 4syn! I'm impressed :)

other synful snacks today (to add to my 2 gingernuts earlier) = choc chip snack a jack (3) and pink and white (2.5) so not far off the 15 'allowed'

just been told that whilst bf is at an extratraining session tomorrow night i am going to the carvery with his parents for his dad's birthday - win :) diet coke, lean meats, a small yorkshire a stuffing ball and 2 tbsp cauliflower cheese...going to save syns all day for that lush treat

Sorry topgirl, but I can't think of any really new snacks. I find if I have things like pasta salad, savoury rice, cold new potatoes, beetroot, cold meat or frittata in the fridge they're good for just snacking on.

Thanks for that list lush. I do remember the conversation. I like lamb Rogan josh and even a huge portion looks quite reasonable in syns. Enjoy your carvery.:)

I haven't done SW for years, but I really need to lose weight. I have been reading the website and am going to join again. I am scared though because I am not good with portion sizes and someone told me that you can't eat as much as you want anymore. Is pasta and sauce and savoury rice still free food? I don't eat much processed food but I do like those. Can you only eat at mealtimes now? Is all fruit still free? Sorry for all the questions!

Not sure how long it is since you did SW. Had Extra Easy been introduced then? You'll get to learn about it at your new group when you rejoin but to answer your questions: You can still eat as much as you want provided you eat the right things. Pasta and Sauce and Savoury rice (correct brands) are still free foods. You can snack between meals provided it's still on plan. All fruit (except avocado;)) is still free. Good to have you on board, you'll soon get back into the swing.

Good loss janie, not far to target for you.:)

Hospitals can be incredibly unhealthy places to get meals! Hopefully you'll be OK tomorrow and not kept waiting. I always find taking a banana and/or Satsuma in my bag is useful to keep me going until I get home unless I've taken a packed lunch.

I nipped into Tesco today and got 2 large, YS packs of less than 5% mince. Delighted as I need to batchcook some Bolognese and I think I'll do some cottage pies with the other.

WI in the morning for me. Hope I've lost something, still feel I'm carrying around holiday gain and I've been back two weeks.:(
  • Morning all

It's going to be a hot one...

    Yesterday's menu:

    B: Weetabix x 2 with a banana and SS milk (HEX A&B)
L: Chicken, vegetable and rice stir fry (a SW recipe)
    D: HM spaghetti bolognese

    Snacks: Fruit

    Today's menu:

B: Oats, FF yoghurt, nectarine and banana (HEX A&B)
    L: Bolognese with pasta
D: Salmon fillets with salad or veg.

    Snacks: Fruit.

Did a sneaky home weigh in yesterday and my scales continue to show a downward trend :-)

I am exercising daily by cycling to and from work, an eight mile round trip. Also walking the dog in the morning. Knackered this morning though, so the dog is having a rest day :-)

Have a great day everybody - remember to stay hydrated!
  • Good morning everyone.

Thank you for your helpful post Maman. I have put an apple and some cherry tomatoes in my bag to help stave off the hunger pangs. Apart from having inconvenient appointment times as far as food is concerned, I have to allow 2 hrs to get there and then ofcourse 2hrs back. Still never mind worse things happen at sea.

    My plan for today is:-

    B - oats, Activia 0% yogurt, banana
    L - fruit, salad
    D - beef casserole, veg

If I get through the day without Syns, I will probably have a couple of biscuits and cheese for supper.

Extra Easy is the newest (and the promoted) plan now which gives the choice of having both meat and potatoes (for instance) on the same plate in unlimited quantities along with at least athird of a plate of superfree vegetables or salad.

You can snack as much as you like either using free foods or your syns but there are lots of foods from the past that are frowned upon now......using tins of macaroni cheese as a sauce used to be fine but it's a big no-no now. There are other rules but you will soon get the hang of it once it's been properly explained to you.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking the Red and Green plans were ok for you before, do please try the EE as it's brilliant if you have a family to cook for as well as yourself......it just seems to suit family food :)

Hello to everyone else. I've been off for a day or three and come back to 5 pages. It's taken me ages to read up but there are some great losses going around so well done to those 'losers' and commiserations to the gainers - though it'll only be a temporary gain, I'm sure. I stayed the same this week, which I'm quite pleased about since I've not stuck to plan as much as I should, though I do try to make healthy choices where I can.

Is there anybody out there who hasn't yet tried the mushy pea curry? Oh my, it's just lovely. Looks like a pile of something a poorly dog may have made but please don't let that put you off. Served up with a plate of SW chips and a side salad it's positively nectar. Recipe: 2 tins mushy peas, one tin baked beans, one tin chopped tomatoes, curry powder (to taste) and one large chopped onion. Pop everything in a pan and heat thoroughly. Add cooked chicken or prawns (or anything you fancy really) and serve. You can blitz the sauce before adding the meat if you prefer.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Consultant - I haven't tried the mushy pea curry yet (and I'm a target member and have been for over 3 years now!), my daughter uses it quite a lot but I just don't like the sound of it - peas and baked beans just don't go together in my book!

WI for me this morning and am hoping that I get a STS! although not sure it will happen as went quite a bit over syns this week, although did only have a few yesterday after a lot Tuesday!

Today will be a red day:

    B - cherries & grapes (after WI)
L - ham & cheese salad (HEB1) salad with FF French dressing
D - braised steak and onions with Jacket potato (HEB2)

    HEA - milk

    Syns - fruit split lolly

If peckish this evening I will have the lunchtime cheese as HEA2 (instead of HEB) and then have some Ryvita & cheese:D (HEA2/HEB2)

Will post back later after WI.

    Denise
