  • I tried asking this question in another place and somebody suggested I ask it in this thread...

I have been on a slimming world type diet since October last year I have lost about 4 stone (I say about because having left Slimming World where I was weighed in clothes I now weigh naked 18 -11 to 14 -7)
One of the treats that I particularly enjoy is a slice of couscous cake lovingly made by my already slender wife. Trouble is she does not like it, she hates cooking, I can't and she won't let me near the kitchen anyway. Is there a similar product that can be bought in any supermarket, that if not low syn, is not going to be detrimental to continued weight loss.
    Thank You for any help

  • Hi All

I wanted to share a blog with you (not mine). I found it on Pinterest. Unfortunately as a new forum user I can't post links but if you Google vicki-kitchen you'll find it easily.

This lady has some fabulous SW friendly recipes either syn free or low syn.

I tried the syn free roast potatoes last night, expecting them to be horrible, and they were fantastic. Even hubby liked them and he's a roast spud connoisseur. I'm a complete convert and can't wait to try some of the other recipes.

Had my lunch out today, so wasn't able to determine the syns exactly. I chose a chicken, bacon and mushroom pasta dish that had lots of red onion and courgettes in so hopefully not too bad in the grand scheme. The closest thing I could find is Tagliatelle Carbonara at 12.5 Syns and I'm sure that mine wouldn't be that much, as it didn't have a sauce as such.

    B: Yoghurt and Mixed Berries
L: Chicken, Bacon and Veg Pasta
D: Chicken Sandwich (HexB) with 1 tspn mayo and salad
    Snack: Satsuma
    HexA; Milk in Drinks
Syns: As well as mayo on my sandwich I had a tiny bit of Chocolate Brownie and who knows how many in my lunch.

Unfortunately i think these sorts of things are a little bit too specialist to be sold in "normal" shops. I've never seen anything like it being sold anywhere.

Well done on your loss though..

DS has opted for a takeaway so I've decided not to have one :A and just stick with the original menu. DS and DD2 will enjoy the takeaway together. I just really need to shift these pounds.

Cous Cous cake sounds interesting, is there a recipe anywhere?

    JoeDenise
thank you for the brownie recipe I think I will have those as one of our Christmas treats.

Sending you a big hug meg. Hope you're feeling calmer today. It would seem that the Robin Williams story is all done and dusted. Like you, I hate this sensational, voyeuristic type of lazy journalism. I heard one of the earliest news clips about his death where his wife specifically asked to 'focus on is life not his death'.

:rotfl:Sorry no real help. What I would suggest is that as couscous cake is so easily and quickly made you sneak into your wife's kitchen when she's out and don't make a mess!:naughty:

Yesterday worked out marginally better than I hoped. We went out for the day, good to be together, enjoying sightseeing. Did eat a large piece of cake in teashop. Planned to stop for a meal on way home but decided to treat ourselves to a fish supper instead. Not had one since I was in Brighton at Easter. OK so loads of syns but pleased to report that I had a mug of tea with it and the planned wine is still unopened in the fridge!!:)

My EE plan for the day:
B: NAS Ribena, HEB porage, HEA milk
L: can't decide, either vegetable soup or eggs with asparagus
D: liver & onions, mash, carrots, cabbage, peas
    Syns: squirt of syrup, gravy

I've still not ventured to a WI yet.:o
