Hi all, just want to ask a quick question, I'm at home 6 days a week with my toddler son and I can't seem to shift the stone I have put back on since his birth. I am thinking of joining slimming world to get me out of bad habits (bread cheese and chocolate fiend) but my only hold back is that I'm worried about being laughed out of the meeting. I'm 5 foot 3 and 9 stone, which I know isn't big by a long shot and I'm midway in bmi however my reason for wanting to go is to eat better rather than a quick snack of bread cheese and chocolate and to hopefully shift the stone that is sitting on my middle. What do you think?

The lowest acceptable weight for a female of 5' 3" is 8st 1lb so as long as you're happy to be over that, SW will allow you to join. Any less than that and you are deemed to be aiming for an 'unhealthy weight' and would not be allowed (according to the rules).
However, you could save yourself some money and follow this thread. SW recommends copious amounts of:-

    a) fresh or frozen fruit and veg (including potatoes)
    b) rice, and pasta
    c) very lean meat and fish
    d) 250mls semi-skimmed milk per day (more if you're breastfeeding)
    e) 28gm fibre-type cereal per day (check the fibre content)
    f) 57gms wholemeal bread per day (gotta be w/meal)

Restrictions on chocolate, crisps, cake, biscuits, alcohol, sugary and fatty foods. These are not banned but cut down.
Use Frylight for "frying" food and cut off all visible fat from meat including bacon. Remove skin from chicken and batter from fish.

Check out Post 1 for links to the recipe thread and some other useful info.

If there's anything else you would like to ask, fire away :)
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

    I love quark!
Have it most days with sweetener and vanilla essence
    DELICIOUS

Maybe I should try it? Oooo the stress of it all :(

There's a nice lemon flavoured one in Morrisons but I can't remember the manufacturer. It's useful stuff but if you're a little scared of buying it, get a plain one and mix in something that you really like. Try some of the following:-

Mix a sachet of Options with a couple of teaspoons of boiling water - just enough to make into a thick paste, and release the flavour. Mix this well with half a tub of quark - instant chocolate mousse - yummy!

Add some milk and sweetener to a tub of quark and whisk it all in until its nice and smooth and eat it with strawberries or any type of fruit really. It’s really nice and filling. You could also make some nice dips with quark. Just add some garlic and herbs.

Mix some smoked salmon, fresh basil and lots of black pepper into quark and then put it on top of scan bran for a lovely lunch.

Use quark as a savoury filling, mixed with a little garlic & herbs and spread on slices of ham then roll up into little parcels. Makes a nice variation for a red day packed lunch with salad.

Mix it with low sugar jam/lemon curd, leave it in the fridge overnight. It tastes like cheesecake.

Add a bit of artificial sweetener to it and some skimmed milk, whisk it and then add fresh fruit of all kind.

Add garlic, cucumber, pepper and salt and make lovely dips or salad dressings or add pepper and salt and use it as filling for jacket potato or add to mashed potatoes

½ tub Quark, 2 Muller Lights and a sugar free Jelly (2 syns)
Make Jelly up to 1/2 pint and allow to cool (but not to set). Blend Muller Lights and quark together and whisk in the jelly. The more whisking, the more air gets into the mousse. It makes a huge amount of mousse for only 2 syns.

Mix two tablespoons of Quark with 1 Tbsp of pesto and leave it over night to absorb the flavour. Stir it through hot pasta for a lovely creamy sauce.

Hope some of these take your fancy :)

Good to see you consultant. Always great advice. How are you doing?

Yes a pack of 6, 3 of each flavour. I'll count them as 1.5 and just have them sparingly.

    Thanks.

Ironically there are lots of free yogurts in Aldi (seem mostly to be the Duneen low fat ones). Just shout if you want to know which ones before your next shop.

I don't know if anyone has ever mentioned this on here, but if I have sauces etc. I spoon them into a ramekin or onto a small plate and then just dip my fork in for each mouthful of food instead of putting on my food. It uses a lot less and you still get the taste.

Great idea! I'll look for a small ramekin! Just like a gastropub!;)

    Hi All,

What do people Syn for sauces such as HP, Ketchup, chilli sauce etc. etc. ?

This is an area that I need to be aware of - need to be sure that I am only using one tablespoon etc. (or counting the additional Syns).

I checked to be sure and it's 1 syn for a tbsp. of brown sauce or ketchup (low sugar is less). 1.5 for sweet chilli sauce but only 0.5 for the mild/hot chilli sauce which I like.:D

I caught a JO 15 minute meals and he was making falafels with a salsa (free) and using a tub of cottage cheese drizzled with chilli sauce as dips/dressings. While there are syns in the falafels (and he was putting them in wraps) I'm sure you could make them without or use the dips with other things. Looked yummy.

OOOoooooooo I'm not sure about that cake, sorry 'roulade' oo la la :D

What if I don't like it? I've never eaten 'quark' before? It looks scary

I'm not sure I could cope with trying something new?? Maybe I'll buy the stuff I need and brace myself for trying it at the weekend. Are you sure it's not 'syn abuse' or whatever it's called?? I'm getting hot sweats just thinking about 'quark'!!

Definitely not syn abuse - there was something similar in one of the magazines a couple of years ago using blackberries to fill it.

There's a couple of free falafel recipes on the SW website - I've made them a couple of times. Planning on making some for taster morning on Thursday.

    Morning,

Frogga a plan of attack is always the best way – I love a good plan: ):T
Lol – Avoid Frogga in February then!:TThanks MasieMouse !Yes feeling slightly more like a normal person today (whatever that is) – I was like a bag of cats yesterday.Had a night off everything on the sofa last night and a tv catch up. Only problem is I get bored and start texting people I shouldn't ahem!! Must get on the green tea to try and avoid the water retention bloat – can’t see this o.5 lb coming off on Thursday at all!!
Meg72 – That was a lot of chopping lol- well done for being organised!! Meg I am an inch taller than you and 5 lbs heavier.I would be interested to know what your target weight is?If you don’t mind me asking? You can’t have much more to go either!!
Crabapple – Have you tried porridge, I don’t eat cereal but the very odd time I would take a notion and have porridge and think it definitely fills you up better!I even throw it into some yogurt. I am definitely getting on this stuffed courgette malarkey !! I was watching something the other day - no idea now but it said that you are better to buy small ones - I dunno as they have more flavour! I'm full of useful knowledge today !! lol :rotfl:
Olderbutnotwiser-I can’t keep scales in my house coz I would be on them and off them but I do weigh myself when I’m over at my mothers – it’s a very hard habit to break. I weighed on Saturday and then again yesterday and I was 5 lb heavier yesterday than Saturday - which only reinforces why you shouldn't do it - to avoid the head melting if nothing else!!
Blueeyedgirl – There must be something about weddings – the week I went to my sisters wedding I lost 2 lbs and prior to that had sts for 7 weeks – maybe it’s the dancing lol

I was very sad to hear the news about Robin Williams this morning.Mrs Doubtfire is one of my favourite films and as a big sufferer of the black dog my heart goes out to him and his family. It is a horrible, horrible illness and if nothing else hopefully his death will bring some much needed attention and understanding .

Latanna, I have set 10stone as my target so only 1.5 lbs to go
I may decide to go a bit lower though,

I too have been very sad at the news of Robin Williams and the manner in which he died. Its hard to cope when someone you love dies, but when its by their own hand its totally devastating, you feel you should have known and stopped them. I do hope the family get the privacy they have asked for.

Not going to group as have been crying a lot remembering my Son and the horrific way he died, I look a wreck.

crabapple - hope you get a nice shiney tonight

Lantanna totally agree such sad news about Robin Williams, such a talented man. I notice that the radio is now advising people to seek professional help if they are affected by depression, but as you say if it highlights this for people and appropriate help is given then that is good.

Shell Belle re the prawns thing. I have just bought some prawn flavoured tails from iceland and think they were around £2 for the pack. Not sure what they taste like but I got them to have with the sw curry sauce so figured they wouldn't be too bad! Z well done for resisting the temptations today.

    Lilian congratulations on your loss

Topgirl - like you say draw a line under it and start afresh I am sure things will be fine next week. Just get some of that curry sauce down you again and you will have another mega loss:rotfl:

just the two of us congratulations on your loss and achieving your 2 stone loss.

maman well done for resisting the temptations of the freezer. so hard when you are defrosting and see all the goodies in there.

MrsHaworth2b welcome to the thread. Like Shala says I would be tempted to give your local consultant a call.

Annie good luck for wi tonight.

Amanda welcome to the thread. Fingers crossed for you losing that last 1.5lbs. I too am aiming for the top of my range at present but I know that I will probably adjust it down to mid range when I get there until I feel comfortable and happy with my weight.

durham well done for being so organised on your shopping trip. Were you shopping for anything nice or just routine stuff?

meg hugs, things like this always bring back our worst memories. Don't blame you for not going to group. Look after yourself.

Bad day for me food wise today. Don't quite know what happened and I am not even going to start counting the syns:( Anyway weigh in tomorrow. I'll take what I get and have already planned out the next week so totally back on track again.
