Trip Advisor disabled my account and I cannot contact them

I have no idea why Trip Advisor has disabled my account after 6 years and have blocked my IP address which means I cannot contact them. I have not used aggressive language so what have I done wrong. I did write something negative about a restaurant in general terms What is the point of a review site if you have to always write glowing reviews. I know of other people this has happened to. So are TA on a commission from a hotel or restaurant. Maybe I should contact Simon Calder Travel expert or the Daily mail to see if they are interested. what I now find especially galling is that Trip Advisor E mail me suggesting I write further reviews and continue to send me other information. I cannot stop them but they can stop me. Totally unfair. Most organisations have a customer service contact where you can query any decision so why does not Trip Advisor follow this protocol. Any feedback, suggestions would be appreciated,

I agree about going to a newspaper, surely that IS the point of a review site. Perhaps finding others who have had this happened before contacting them?

Loads of reports of this happening to people recently on this site / forum so you won't have far to look.
  • I always thought Trip advisor was a good tool for getting a cross section of reviews. However having read this post and other similar ones I now have my doubts. If would appear if you write anything detrimental about a hotel or restaurant your account is disabled which is utter nonsense as not everything can be perfect. Also stopping or not being allowed to ascertain the reason for you your account being disabled is like a death sentence without appeal. In law you are always allowed to appeal so why is Trip Advisor so superior it is always write. Perhaps someone should try E Mailing Trip Advisor's CEO/. I think the address is ceomail/?q=tripadvisor you might have to put http;// in front of the address. The information was obtained from the CEO E Mails addresses web site. it might be worth a try!!!

My latest e-mail to the CEO reads...

    Dear Mr Kaufer

I had my Trip Advisor account disabled at the beginning of February.

I'm not going to make excuses for myself, other than to say that over recent years I've posted regularly on several TA destination forums, always giving first-hand detailed information, which I know has been appreciated by lots of people.

Unfortunately I seem to come unstuck on the Tunisia Forums, with a couple of other members in particular.

Since I had my account disabled I've spent 5 weeks non-trekking in Nepal, staying in 7 (seven) different hotels/guesthouses, visited numerous attractions, and travelled many miles on public transport, both on and off the beaten track.

And I recently spent 2 weeks touring round the Bodrum Peninsula and Aegean Coastline of Turkey.

In September I'm going to Bali and Java for 5 weeks, staying in 5 different places.

    What would I like?

I really want to share my experiences on TA, and post lots of honest and detailed reviews. I still receive e-mails from TA reminding me about my reviews, how many people have read them and found them helpful, and how many more I need to get awarded more badges.

    What do I promise

I know I've promised it before, but I think I've learned my lesson. I undertake to completely avoid all the Tunisia Forums and not get involved in arguments with people who, for whatever ever reason, don't share my enthusiasm.

Thanks for reading this, and I hope I can soon be back in the TA Community.

    Kind Regards

    Peter Bradford (LancasterLad)

I'm not expecting an answer, but I tried!

Trip Advisor disabled my account about 2 months ago after I had contributed a significant number of reviews and forum posts, without a problem for 6 years. The only possible reason for this action I can see is I queried a point in non aggressive way, as I disagreed with what was written, that was made on a Krakow forum . Trip advisor did not bother contact me to explain why they were taking this action. I have since received no response when I wrote to them and I even went to a public Library and set up a new E Mail address so I could write an E mail through to their support section asking them why my account had been disabled . What did they do they deleted all my previous reviews and forum posts, talk about being spiteful. So far as I can see no one has answered the query who makes the original decision at TA to disable your account. The idea of contacting Simon Calder appeal but would he even read it. How could you send copies of these post to him what would you need to type in so he received it. All the publicity about Trip Advisor seems positive but it is about time someone with a bit of clout took up with them the policy of disabling accounts without even allowing the contributor to respond or put up their side of the story. Possibly they might then take some notice and review their policy of disabling accounts if they received some adverse publicity.

That is very useful but does anyone have an E Mail address for Stephen Kaufer

Also whose decision is it to disable contributors accounts.

See the link at reply #5, and reply #12 on the link.

My e-mail to Mr Kaufer is at #5 above. As it hasn't bounced back I assume it reached his in-box.
