One thing I learned in the application of minerals is that if you want more of a cover - you might not really need more mineral - just need to buff over that area again (and again)

This is why you always start from the outside of your face and work in. Time you git the T zone you wont have any excess mineral on your brush and it will have warmed making buffing a lot easier and smoother. And for most of us its the t zone that needs the added buff
And it is that advice that you gave me long ago that I have been using - but, I think some may be 'over buffing'! I certainly over buffed to start off with - which I mentioned before and that is why my skin felt sore.

I'm a bit slap dash now - and I get a better effect! I don't have the time to fa5t a5se around in the mornings - and when I do get time to 'faff' around, I seemed to apply far too much. So I apply the 'slap dash' approach at the weekends too!

You've always given good advice Suki! Thank you.

  • I have very senitive skin that burns easily, and is very fair and has acne!, so it very hard to find something that doesnt look orange and wont make my skin even worse!! but i found sheer cover really worked! i havnt tried their new formula yet, but ordering it tomorow so hopefully will have the same effects as their last one! but the old one i tried really helped my skin, it doesnt feel caked on and doesnt feel itchy, it really covered all my spots and redness without feeling caked on!... The only thing is, from out of the 2 shades u get, one was just about light enough for me! the other made me go very orange! not a good look lol, another thing is when u first apply it, only use the littlest amount, n then add to it, its very easy to put loads on, and then makes your skin look dry! Liquid foundations only make my skin look orange and or pastey and doesnt cover up well!

Hopefully their changed formula wont make my skin go bad!!

    Anyone else tried it????????

Clairebear, I'm an elemntal beauty person myself. Not tried sheer cover.

I have found that I need 2 kabuki brushes as they MUST be washed out every few days as I get spots, and if I use the brush when it's dirty I get more. So one to use and one drying (they take over a day to dry). Just been using some very mild anti bacterial handwash, seems to work ok so far.

I agree about over buffing, it takes a while to get it perfected but I can now really build up the layers to get the 'movie look' without the 'powdery look':rotfl:

Oh lordy.......... I've not washed my brushes yet. Please don't read back and work out how awful I've been... :o

I've not really learnt to build up yet :o I'm still just faffing it on and still don't look that bad at the end of a days work! The movie look I could achieve would probably be Bette Davis, when playing her meanest part!!

Meanwhile......... I love Elemental Beauty - it suits my sensitive stupid skin! I found Sheer Cover itchy so too Lily Lolo.

  • I have been using sheer cover for over a year. It is expensive but totally worth it, you dont need alot, a couple of daps on the powder and you are set to go, it has become really famous, The jar is meant to last you 3 month it lasted me 6, so yes you do get more than your moneys worth beleive me. Best thing to do is order it, once you get it cancel the club membership and when you run out order again, that way you wont be sent one out every 3 months. You can use it as you please plus you get the free gifts each time as well. If you need more info let me know x:beer:

And read through the thread - if you have time  - for advice for applying it.

Sheer Cover didn't suit me and I gave it to my sister, whom it suits. I have very sensitive skin and found EB was better for me as they do a healing foundation.

Don't 'faff' about with it too much, make sure you leave as long as poss for your moisturiser to 'soak' in before applying.

Give yourself time - a good few weeks, to get the knack and a way of applying that suits you - if you do that, you will never go back to the horrid liquid stuff!!

Keep us informed of how you get on. We are all still learning after all!

My mineral make up from Southern Magnolia Minerals arrived the other day...and I have come here to say that I love it!

I have been reading this thread for weeks, researching every company and the best deals. Coming to the conclusion SMM is overall the best value for money, and turns out the quality is lovely too! I'm a 'mineral make-up newbie' and my skin looks and feels great!

I purchased their 'Basically Me' kit which is $20, but with 10% discount using the code: RealBeauty10. (and $16 P&P to UK). The kit includes a 12g foundation, 5g foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, blusher, bronzer, finishing veil and a baby kabuki brush (and 2 free blush & eyeshadow samples).

I chose light and medium foundations giving great even coverage, the blusher is rosy, the bronzer adds a nice shimmer, the concealer & eyeshadow are natural shades which are great for multi-tasking dark circles and blemishes, and the finishing veil gives a flawless airbrushed effect after. The colours are perfect for my skin complexion.

I suffer from acne and very oily skin, when I get big horrible spots I'm left with a red blemish for years and nothing heals the redness. I saw the Sheer Cover advert and decided to look into minerals. I'm very pleased with my choice of SMM, as my skin feels healthy and even seems to be producing less oil...which is a miracle! I believe talc and rice based powders are part to blame for my bad skin, so I'm thrilled there's an alternative.

I also ordered the free samples from Everyday Minerals; 3 foundations, concealer and blusher (1g each) only paying $5 P&P to UK. They are lovely too, but now I have my great kit from SMM I wouldn't buy from anywhere else.

I'm enjoying perfecting the art of swirl, tap and buff!
    Thanks for all the tips!
