Kat - I hope you get somewhere with the insurance, if they don't have insurance it should come out of their own pocket, straight from their wages or benefits otherwise they are the only winners.

Lilt - my DD used to sleep like that when she was a toddler, it looked very cute.

Stewby - we have a caravan (used to be campers but DH got soft) we go away about 4/5 times a year but still spend much, much less than an average week abroad for 4 and we take the dog so no kennel fees, we have a big awning and put a dog crate in there for him to sleep in.

byebye - That is a lot of holidays, if people I know want to do fancy hen/birthday do's I have no worries at all about saying no. A friend of DD's is going to Mexico in the summer for a wedding, he will be going with his mum and sister but a little while ago his mum told me she owed over £70 in school dinners and was hoping that her house didn't get repossessed as she was in arrears on the mortgage. The trip will be on credit no doubt but if the bride and groom want to get married there they should be prepared to not have very many guests, I would have just bought a gift and declined the invite.

Today will be another SFD. I am about to make a small loaf of bread and 5 bread rolls, 4 of the rolls will be used as burger buns with tonights homemade pork burgers. I am hoping to get a load of washing dry but it has clouded over now, I will walk the dog to my Mum and Dads and have a coffee there this afternoon then this evening I will go for a run.

Yesterday I rang Sky and cancelled my half price movie subscription, we still have it for another 30 days but after that I will be saving £8 a month, we do watch the movies but they repeat the same one all week which means we only watch one a week at the most. The most annoying thing is that it took 8 minutes on the phone to do that and as my phone is with BT that cost quite a lot but I couldn't avoid it.

I have sold a few bits and bobs on ebay in the last couple of weeks, all have been paid for but whether they have arrived is another matter, people just don't seem to bother leaving feedback, no doubt they will claim they got lost and I will have to refund. I used some of the money to buy a few items of clothing for myself, I have bought them in Autumn/Winter styles so not many others bidding so I did quite well.

    Hello everyone,

Hope you're all OK, just been reading through posts and catching up.

Got home last night - what should have been a nice few days visiting OH's family became four days of dealing with MIL's behaviour - she had a screming row with someone in a restaurant, then stormed off and refused to come out of her room for a day, then said she was going to get the plane home and disappeared, cue frantic search trying to establish if she'd come home or stayed in Ireland, she eventually was located with one of FIL's cousins in Dublin. She is now refusing to speak to anyone, I'm quite glad we're back home and away from it all! There was spending, but all in the euros I had with me, so not too bad. Lots of eating though - had lost 2lbs before I went, but don't dare to check yet...

Calling - so very sorry to hear fo your loss. You are so right about smears - my sister had an abnormal result last year (she is only 31) thnkfully it could all be sorted fairly easily, but so important not to leave these things too long.

Thrifty - charity donation is a great diea for your wedding list.

Kat - so sorry to hear about your bike, how annoying!

Shyspender - hugs for move, hope it's not to stressful.

    Hi everyone!!

Kat  heck no the in laws are not staying! They live 20 minutes away and descend on me for a few hours whenever they feel like it *Mondays only* - so I am left hanging around every monday waiting for them to appear. This monday they weren't meant to come as MIL took an overtime shift which was later cancelled, so then she booked a hairdresser appt for 12pm. They said they would come late instead, and I stupidly offered to cook. So.. 20 sausages in the freezer which would have made a LOT of meals instead spent on mostly other people :( they were meant to be here at 3pm but arrived at 4:45 which means they didn't even leave home until way after they should have been here. Why is their time so much more important than mine hmm? They left, taking Him with them at 7:30pm but Jelly was so overtired :(

Dolly/Kat I must sneak in and check on her about 3-4 times a night. Love watching her sleep! She is either usually in the same position as she fell asleep, flat on her back with her arms flung above her head, or face down, bum up, or just like her daddy, on her side with her hands (clasped like she is praying), tucked between her knees haha!

So far so good on the SFD today. I am being taken out for a lunch date, (meeting Him at local restaurant!) which has not happened... ever? I am quite excited. It is an all you can eat chinese buffet. I can't eat all that much at once so I am justifying that by taking a freezer bag with me ;) lol. I won't take the P, but I am determined to have some prawn toast ;)

Had some good news today. Jelly is hopefully starting at a local school nursery with a funded 2 year olds place in September. And it's ofsted 'outstanding' :D It's term time only, but going to keep her at the current nursery on Tuesdays so she can do that and 9-3 hours at the new nursery a couple of days. It is looking likely she will end up starting school very early so really need to get her used to extra time out and away.

Drop in again later. Everyone have a lovely cheap day ;)

    Hello all!

Had a busy morning cleaning the windows and washing the conservatory roof and sides and doing a few hours in the garden. Luckily baba slept loads to allow this.

The cat peed on hubbies clothes again :(. But I read when cats have urinary tract infections they like to pee on soft things and cat litter can be too harsh. So today won't be a SFD either as I'll try and find some paperbased or similar litter.

Thought I post some pics of the invitations we made and the favours. The cards still got a silver leaf print of "wedding invitation" on the front and an insert with the text.

Off to catch up properly on the previous posts.

Wow- Thrifty - they are beautiful!

    Hey all

Back from being away since Saturday at my nephew's first birthday and then visiting a friend. And......
managed not to spend anything the whole time!!!!!!!!!!!! (apart from petrol which was already budgeted for)

I am so pleased with myself for this! :j

I spoke to my brother about not getting said Nephew a present and he seemed fine about it (I actually had nightmares for about 3 nights leading up to me telling him - so silly I know - but it's such a big step for me). Then I spent Sunday to this afternoon with a friend down south. She is not very well, so we didn't go anywhere or do much, which was perfect for me keeping my purse locked away, and meant we just had quality time together and walks in the lovely local park in the sun when she felt up to it.

I also managed a run whilst away. I am off to update my totals and catch up on the thread, but I hope everyone's ok.. halfway through the month now!

    thrifty they are gorgeous!

tiptoes - well done on not buying a present and talking to your brother about it.

lilt - were there any sausages left? How was lunch? Great news on jelly's nursery!

MagicCat - wow to your MIL's behaviour! I would definitely put her on the naughty step!

Today is my food shopping day, but we didn't need much as dd and I are away next week and dh is away for 5 days on a course where he gets fed. That meant I could walk both to and from the shops. I also took a bag to the Sally Army (a 3 bus journey) and then walked all the way back. I nipped to the PO to pick a parcel up for dh, and then took dd up to the shops to choose a magazine to take away with us.

In between all this, I have done Jiggle Free day 15, had a phone call from my big sis, who is going to pop up to visit us on our holiday, painted much, did some crafting and thought about tidying up!

I have reached the heady heights - and tired legs - of 23,000 steps!

Today I am grateful for the phone call from my sis, seeing dd on her playing field at lunchtime as I walked past and we waved and blew kisses to each other, for the lovely lady in the Sally Army, for my Oyster having enough money on it, for my legs bringing me home.

thrifty - they are lovely! Well done you, how creative :)

Well done tiptoes on not buying a present and explaining why. I think I need to take a leaf out of your book and start being honest about why I am not doing things.

On a slight tangent to this subject, here is a dilemma for you all (don't think I've mentioned it before, but please tell me if I have). I am attending a wedding in a few months, and am part of the wedding party, although I am not actually that close to the couple. They have asked for money towards their honeymoon for their wedding gift, and have asked for it to be transferred directly into their bank account. Is this weird? I feel very uncomfortable in doing this, as they will see who it is from and how much we have given.

I have been to a wedding before where they have asked for the local currency of their honeymoon destination as a present and have had a box where envelopes can be dropped into at the wedding. This seemed more comfortable as it was anonymous and I didn't feel like I was being judged over how much I gave, plus I felt it would definitely be spent on their honeymoon, and quite liked the idea that they would go out for dinner, or something, with the money we gave.

Anyway, spend day today as did the food shopping and I am nearly up to our budget. Hoping to stick to the budget as we only have 10 days until payday :)

No TV today, even though my favourite program is on (CSI anyone?).

Still no exercise, although have done nearly 16000 steps and I have had a long work day, with an early start and have worked at home this evening (with food shopping sandwiched in between).

    Hope you are all ok

    Evening all.

My laptop has packed up so I have dug out the old one I almost donated last month, so glad it was not one of the things I have decluttered! I now have a dilemma, I will need to buy a new one but I am going travelling in December for 6 months and though I can afford to get a new one now would prefer not to. This one seems to be ok, I've updated the security with free ones and the battery doesn't charge but it seems to be ok other than that. Should I see how I go with this one though it is a pain as it needs to be plugged in and is really slow!! Any other suggestions?

Fmess - I have also been to a wedding where they wanted the money paid into their bank account - I wasn't comfortable with it either but decided just because they wanted it doing that way didn't mean I had to do it that way. I gave them currency for the country they were travelling to. There is no reason why you cannot do what you would prefer, and don't feel that you have to give more than you can afford, perhaps take a leaf out of tiptoes book!

well done on all the steps!

Lilt my sister used to sleep like that too!

Fmess, yes that is weird. That's why we did the charity thing. I didn't want my guests to pay for my wedding or honeymoon. Or ask for money for a new kitchen or similar. BUT if I would, I'd do the envelop system. They maybe think even if you give a present they'll roughly know how much people spend or if they'd have a wedding lidt with a department store.

Don't worry, just give how much you feel comfortable with. They should be pleased about any contribution, I think.

    Evening everyone.

We have a wedding coming up where the couple have also asked for money towards their honeymoon.
A relative of mine had mentioned that she was getting them a gift anyway and when I enquired why, she actually made a lot of sense: "They make more than 3 times my wage, probably more. It is a bit cheeky them asking us for money".
So we are buying them a present.
    :undecided

Not a spend-free day today and it is looking bad. Ended up using my credit card for food shopping (£6.24) in morries. They have a deal on Bicardi and my mum keeps asking me to go in and buy some for her but it is always sold out. Unfortunately the yellow stickers get the better of me and I end up spending money.
    :embarasse

Training day went really badly. I ran through it in my head brilliantly but then became really flustered when I missed a bit, my words got all jumbled up and it just imploded. Complete disaster... dreading having to teach others.
    :(

Ooooooooooooooh, have I missed this?? where are you travelling to Oldestgnome??
    :)

I am glad your brother was so understanding about the present. It's not like you forgot or anything like that and you were travelling down to see them for his birthday. I think they would much rather have you there than have a gift.

Diet went a bit wrong this evening due to the training disaster. As a result, I had a couple of donuts (yellow label). However, to make myself feel better I bought stuff to make some soup.
    :o

Erm... credit card came in: £3679.77
But that is including £314.75 for my festival tickets. Plan is to pay off £500 this month but I am hoping we can find an extra £200 so that is goes below £3k.
I know this seems like a bit of a yoyo but it is slowly going down and the important thing is that I have realised that the credit card is not my money... it has to come from somewhere. So I am becoming more financially aware.
