I have been feeling overwhelmed rather a lot recently. Work is busy and kinda stressful, the garden is a mess and of course I'm supposed to be thesising. I've very nearly been in the house for a year (it's gone so quickly, don't you think?) and it doesn't look any different to when I moved in. Despite there being plenty needing to be done (nothing on an InRates scale, but still).
Earlier I reminded myself that actually, when I bought the place last year it was good timing in many ways, but not all ways. And so it doesn't matter that I've just been living here without getting on with sorting the place out. I needed somewhere to live and I'd have been renting somewhere that wouldn't necessarily reflect how I wanted 'my hosue' to be anyway. Once I've cleared some mental space I can (or choose not to) deal with some of the house/ garden stuff as I see fit. It's up to me.
Don't worry, I'm not quite talking out loud to myself (yet, I might not be far off that).0 -
OK - the thing I've been working on this afternoon (the only think I've done since last Friday)... it's coming out of the results. It wasn't a very good experiment and some of the results don't look right.
I guess that still counts as productive/ a step forward.0 -

I think you've hit the nail on the head there.
I've been in my house 4.5 years now and there are still some (quite a few) bits which have been on my to-do list for some time ...
But, you know, it's not hurting anyone for them not to be done yet. Most of the time it doesn't bug me and there are higher or more important priorities. The trick is learning to accept that there's a priority list and they have their place on that (or not).
The danger is when you start thinking that you 'ought' to have sorted whatever out by now. Either because that's the message someone else gave you, or it's the internal unhelpful voice. And it's not a correct voice. There usually isn't a 'right' or 'wrong'.
My parents weeded my garden for me when they came up a few weeks ago - it had got away from me, and I hesitate to think what the allotment looks like, but other things have to take priority and I will get round to them in due course.
Try not to beat yourself up about it0 -
I have a similar problem with a toilet.
I tried soda crystals - now I have solidified soda crystals in the pan.
I tried warm water- I think that has got rid of the soda crystals.
Then I tried some soda crystals and added vinegar. According to the youtube/ ehow videos frothing is meant to occur but it didn't. Also you are meant to be able to use any vinegar, so I used value malt vinegar, it being the cheapest I can find. That turned everything brown, so I'm not sure if that is the vinegar or something else.
Oh dear. Sorry you're having such trouble with it.

You and lir are not the only ones feeling overwhelmed, either, and you are certainly not the only one feeling that you're not making progress with your house. Mine is getting worse rather than better.OK - the thing I've been working on this afternoon (the only think I've done since last Friday)... it's coming out of the results. Yes. Definitely a productive step forwards. Well done. :TDo you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Our flat feels like a dump / bomb site, too. I'd like to say it's because I'm too busy, but the reality is, if I really wanted to, I have had the time to sort stuff. I'm just idle, loathe tidying, and need a vigourous boot up the backside....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

Yeah, mine is getting worse too. Notice how you've not been treated to any pics of my garden recently! I'd have liked to spend some time out there today. But seeing as I didn't get any work done on Fri (had a day off on Friday but wasted it) or yesterday I couldn't justify going out. I've even been very neglectful at watering things
Thank you all for your words of encouragement. They really are helpful and appreciated, even though sometimes I don't enjoy them0 -
My house looks ok ( for the wreck ) cos no ones has been messing it up ( fir did but clears up eventually, and much more vigourous ly than me)
Yard needs a sweep and a weed and only just started white garden which I think will take two weekends.
I think mulching this year might take fir a good three weeks.0 -

My house generally looks better than it might as there is someone else here. The dining room (aka dumping ground) and my bedroom are out of bounds though so they are a state. I haven't even properly unpacked from being away a couple of weeks ago.
That bed near to the house that I/ my mum weeded? It's completely overgrown - partly with salads that are now in full bloom, some slowly dying potato foliage, and some other stuff that is hanging on in there. Interspersed with A LOT of now well established weeds. Oh well. I'll sort it out at some point. Just not any time soon.0 -
We got three of those pelargoniums potted up, I must save at least three more of them, but preferably more. I keep my pelargoniums and only lost them when kiwi ate a whole bunch, I hate treating them as annuals,0

I have to be wonder if the best thing a country could do, instead of finding oil or gas deposits would be to find reserves of gumption or elbow grease. Nothing else would matter after that. Some countries like Taiwan, Israel, Switzerland, Singapore, Denmark etc. seem to have foundprecisely that and that's enough. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
