Bloody jam has gone mouldy again.

Cannot think what the hell I am doing wrong. making jam my whole life yet cannot seem to sterilise a jar or close a jar properly in this house. :( I left the jars till cold, but maybe the sensation n my hands isn't good enough to detect subtle warmth. Grrrrr.

    Happy Fathers Day to me.

We went out to our local show home place this afternoon. It was great fun for me. The kids whinged all the way round which was nice.

Now we're off to the local RSL for a glass of wine and a go at the Fathers Day raffle.

Question for the Nice People. When I told The Girl that she shouldn't use the word 'bugg..', should I have said, "Because it's like sexing [their word for having sex] but in the bottom"?

My kids still love going round potential house purchases although they are pretty naughty. They don't know enough about the mechanics of sexing for the bottom explanation to make sense, but just accept there are some words you shouldn't say.
    I think....

I don't think children really understand the mechanics of sex at that age. Even if my daughter understood (which she doesn't), I wouldn't tell her at this point because she would probably tell other children who didn't understand. Learning things the wrong, or less reproductively important, way round could take some undoing! :rotfl:

I would simply tell her it's a swear word.

Karl L made his way back over today, risking walking through big dogs jaws.

The other three stayed put and were mingling surprisingly well.

So all but two or three hens from this year, and the current bubs, and rooster, have been moved over tonight. Poor karl. Hopefully a best friend is in this batch of movers and he settles. Otherwise its bad news for him. :(

This makes me want to adopt him. Poor Karl. He sounds lovely.

He's absolutely no good for eating either. He has strange black meat a few people consider a delicacy and not much of it.

Given they know what they have clearly found out, you need to tell them that everyone who says it, doesn't actually mean that. Or there is the risk that someone hits their finger with a hammer and they think that there is some sort of sex going on.

I would want to know who told them that, but more importantly tell them that most people who use the word use it as an expletive and that it is a rude word in general.

Bad language is used pretty liberally over here. I was telling off The Boy a few years ago for watching You Tube videos with bad language in them.

"Did they have the 'f-word' in them?", I thundered.
"What you mean fu..?", asked my 5-year old daughter in all innocence.

There's no watershed on the TV over here which drives me crazy. You'll be sitting there watching Masterchef or something like that with the kids at 7pm and then a trailer will come on with some horrible language and violence in it.

I agree wholeheartedly. We were quite open about pubic hair with the children at quite a young age. After all, it is hardly different from the hair that grows under your armpits when you get older. Also, about the different organs boys and girls have. However, I would not have gone into any details about sex when the children were young. When they reach puberty, they need to know, but really not before then, if at all possible.
