Where's michaels when you need him to say if this is a good deal... http://www.tesco.com/direct/blaupunkt-32146-32-inch-hd-ready-720p-led-tv-with-freeview/394-3432.prd

All I want is a telly ... not a big telly, not a posh one with stuff on that I don't understand/know about.... but I had in my mind about this much for budget.

So - any cheap telly experts got an opinion?

That HD lark.... not even sure if it works here (or what it's all about).

All I want/need is a reliable, cheap, telly with freeview.

Scroll down and read the reviews. Some people say its difficult to put the stand together.

Yes, plenty more variations they could have come up with.

We didn't have a good experience with that outfit at all when we needed them. Chocolate teapots!

In September I am promoting Marie Curie. They have a licence for a door to door collection in this area for a couple of weeks and I have volunteered to take round and collect envelopes.

I saw first hand the help they provided to my friend K and her family so that she could fade and die at home, This was equipment, advice and care.

Out of order IMHO. A relatively small charity hits on a good idea to raise funds and publicity, and a big charity muscles in on the action.

Most famous sufferer of MND is Stephen Hawkings, but the vast majority of people struck down by it end up in a wheelchair within a year and generally don't survive more than 3-5 years.

It's a bit of a lost opportunity . In the US there's a bit of a celebrity culture where you can promote an issue if you tag on the name of a celebrity, and in the US they called this Lou Gehrigs disease which has about nil recognition in the other 199 countries of the world.

It it was rebranded as Stephen Hawkings disease in our corner of the world that might get some recognition, but it would depend if he was up for it I suppose

Aren't there lots? I live my holiday life vicariously through other people's facebook.

The weather forecast for the next week in Devon is carp except today was going to be a decent day, it has just started raining. I know it is not a PMA but I associate Devon with wet and being too cold. Yes it is not abroad and thus supposedly easier and cheaper to get to (sarcastic smile), cheaper and more child friendly but it has never sold itself to me however many times we come.

Fiat can not quote accurately today but suggest about 1200 plus vat, Google suggests about half that would be reasonable if we can get an independent garage to do it. We budget 750 a year on car repairs and servicing, based on previous cars which had a 100 service and mot and probably 2 tyres for 100 every 2 years this seems ludicrously much and yet we seem to exceed it by miles every year :(

Your Fiat has a wonderfully practical layout, but I have never been a fan of Fiats' mechanical bits. We had a lot of trouble with ours, and I was dead chuffed to scrap it at ten years old and 50k on the clock, rather than have yet another expensive repair.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Indeed. I know cancer is horrible, and that care for cancer patients is a good thing, and likewise research into better treatments. However, if your loved one is dying of something else, equally horrible but different from cancer, then it's hard not to feel that cancer gets more than its fair share of publicity and fund raising.

Considering that Lou Gehrig has been dead for more than 70 years, I shouldn't imagine there are all that many Americans who primarily recognise him as anything other than the person connected with the disease.

I think in this country there's quite a wide awareness linking MND with Stephen Hawking.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

My first car was a Fiat. It was hard to maintain as the hood hinged at the front. It would have to go to the garage for anything, as there's no tradition of home maintenance in Italy and it showed - nothing was easy to get to. Doing anything was difficult, and I've never gone near one since.

It was built like a tank and as roomy inside as a thimble. Like a TARDIS in reverse.

I think michaels' problem is that the turbo's gone.... and I believe that you shouldn't drive a car in that condition.... so the turbo needs to be fixed, or replaced. One question might be that, as all a turbo does is takes exhaust gases and puts them into a funnel that gets narrower and narrower, then squirts them back into the system, whether it can be removed and reconfigured for now without it.

As a rule, there's nothing in a turbo - so they can't fail .... if it's fitted correctly then it should just work. If it doesn't work then you need to do exploration to look at the root cause of the failure. Just sticking another one on could mean the new one blows shortly.... so it's not even as simple as a unit swap.

How come you suddenly became an expert on turbos. Other have expressed surprise that the turbo has gone at only 70k.

WE had a Lancia Y10, good, Fiat Tipo - carp, Lancia Dedra, Good, Fiat multipla with 4 year warranty - brilliant till the warranty ran put, fiat multipla cheap with engine remap - ok till gearbox broke, fiat stilo cheap - very good except power steering failed would have been 1500 from fiat but was 400 at local garage, current multipla - carp, first under warranty then even worse since. The Y10 had a little rust but did a season in a ski resort and was 12 years old, the Dedra had a few bubbles but more than 10 year sold, the others have no sign of rust despite the odd scratch and knock but the mechanicals are all poor.

Could probably get recovered to home under autoaid and odds are we won't get it back until Thursday at the earliest but it would still be nicer to get home under our own steam and we need it when we get back.
    I think....

At the drop of a hat, today became "table day" .... received a text that it was available now, or could maybe sort it tomorrow... so I seized the day to prevent any further delays and went over.

    Bit of a big bugg4h.... 55" diameter.

It's now in the garden - and it was suggested I paint it immediately to tidy it up ... and I was given some fence paint stuff, so I did that straight away too and it does look less shabby. That's regular brown stuff for now... next year.... colour.
