I loved that series as a child, and still have the books. They were responsible for my doing dinghy sailing so have a lot of affection for them. Couldn't ever quite decide if I wanted to be as adventurous and shunning of authority as Nancy Blackett
And must try to remember where the hoover and duster are, as parents arrive on Wednesday
Adventurous, yes, but not particularly anti-authority, I think. More wanting to join the establishment and be it, rather than anti-it.

How does it qualify as "not on the High Street" do you think, in LIR's example, when you can buy it in John Lewis? (Definitely High Street, I reckon).I suppose I should say I've put myself down for the waiting list for the six week trial for the rowing club
Maybe just an excuse to eat 6000 calories a day
I think you have to trek across Antarctica for that level of consumption, sorry to say. Not just a bit of rowing. If the toil is such that DS and DD could either join in or watch, then I will come and toil too.
I'll come, cuddle Kermie, and point out the bits you lot have missed. That'll be very helpful....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

This days dragging. My dad is having a biopsy today & I guess that's why I'm in all sorts of avoidance behaviour.
Dunno why it is stressing me though, results take 2 weeks to come through.
Hope Lemon-Dad is entirely well.
Avoidance behaviour is useful sometimes. You'll feel upset about your Dad whatever you do - who wouldn't? This way you are worried and upset but have blackberries too....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I am really not fussy about whom I borrow one from.
Likewise, I'm not going to outbid any other offersBut you'd be welcome to borrow mine - you just have to let me know when it needs to be in my car if I need to take it anywhere.

Really? I've already shown that I'm a sucker for avoiding my own chores by going elsewhere to help others with theirs
PN set the bar high with her weekend of manual labour. I had a great time. You have a lot to live up to, just don't let me near any washing up liquid
I'd help any NP I could - you all do so much for me in providing a cosy corner of the internet for me to natter away and show you pics of my aubergines. Plus it's a good excuse to come over and see you. And I get to work with company rather than talking to myself.
I expect I'll learn a lot from spending a little time with you guys too. Everything I do here is advanced making-it-up.If the toil is such that DS and DD could either join in or watch, then I will come and toil too.
Remember, I'm first in the queue for the stuttering farmer though :cool:0 -

He's not bad looking and well off, but a bit of a prat. Farms money as much as anything else, but not much good will.
In fact there is another single farmer sort of thing, but he so up him self and with such and attitude I had blocked him out of my mind. He is nice to his little dog though really loves her.0 -

No idea... but John Lewis isn't everywhere. When we moved to Cornwall, the nearest was in Bristol, 170 miles away. Just had a look, they've got 54 stores now. Nearest one to Cornwall is now Exeter (45-120 miles away depending which end of the county people live).
Maybe it's the specific item that's not available ... and the two are different brands or something.0 -
Not on the high street is a weird site IMO.
Today I went on there to look for hooks for the back of the bathroom door, and its hard to filter and they have SO much stuff! a lot of which is frankly.....very much on the high street. Or available cheaper or better on the high street, and because there is so much, and its solely filtered, I almost never look through all search results before getting board and wandering off.
Haven't found hooks yet. I want three I think.0 -
