You can answer the excited carried away questions about what might cook on the barbecue after you are full of meAt and salads and grilled fruits. He'll find out you like marmite and try and get you to eat barbecued marmite I should think.
I happily trekked further last week for toast and manual labourBarbecued marmite? What could possibly go wrong with mixing those two yummy things?!
I think it's because barbecues were a 'family thing' growing up. Not very frequent, but a special occasion. They're still a 'thing' now ('oh you're back that weekend, we could have a barbecue', 'we're coming over, hopefully the weather will be nice and we'll have a barbecue' etc as soon as spring has sprung). We'd only bother to eat outside if we'd had a barbecue.
Normally I'd be disappointed I'f I'd burnt my dinner and/ or it wasn't all ready at the same time.0 -
I'm still alone, but I guess I'm in a phase where it matters less to me. I've got online communities (you guys), regular church friends, my parents, and those friends whose social lives changed are still good friends - I just have to see them under different conditions.
I'm not religious, so no place-of-worship friends for me, but I've a few really good friends (predominantly single and female) who are scattered around the country. The 3 friends who are currently pregnant I'm delighted for - they've all happened to get pregnant without too much effort despite circumstances which suggested they shouldn't have. Though even if they hadn't been battling those odds I'd still have been delighted for them. They've all been in relationships with their husbands for forever (15+ years) and they will all make great mothers.
Just reminds me that time marches on...
I'm incredibly grateful for our little community. I'd not 'speak' to anyone else for great swathes of time otherwise. And I'm sure I'd never have met such a diverse and special group of (Nice) people otherwise.
Edit: this time last week I'd not long arrived at PN's. Still can't believe how natural it all felt - guess it shouldn't have been too much of a surprise seeing as we chat so much, but still.0 -

BBQ is just a means of cooking here, so not just for 'occassions'. This is in part because our cooker is an oilfired aga type...so once it is hot..it is hot. This incentivises setting up the bbq on summer evenings after work.0 -
Well, unless either you've been in a cave or else you're only little and have lived your life so far amongst people who don't use the word.
It was one of those situations that parents come across where the child asks "why?" and you suddenly realise that explaining why involves putting into words an awareness that you've had for years but have never had to articulate before.
You are right - I meant no offence at all to your DS, who sounds a sensitive and considerate boy. It was the adult, royal "Paki" reference, to which I referred. Not a 12 year old (and that goes for the boy actually suspended, too).
I find explaining the meanings of words to Isaac helps me actually define what they mean, too.PasturesNew wrote: »Whoever pushed the button on the missile.... do you think they're sitting there thinking "ha ha....", or "ooooh shiiiit...... now we've done it!"
The latter, I reckon. They'll certainly have done their own side immense harm, whoever they were. Talk about an own goal.PasturesNew wrote: »but offered the suggestion that "something didn't go through right with the order on our system"
he's clearly a genius! Something didn't go right.....
Hope it gets sorted ASAP....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I find that explaining things generally sharpens up how I think about them. The 'why/ what/ how?' questions than usually follow are generally enlightening too.0 -

I find racist words difficult. Black cultures I was brought up in often used the n word among them selves.
I don't like the way we give words power and pretend its the words fault, not the speaker/writer that does the harm.
As for the world ATM, the who
E place is a mess and no one is righteous so far as I can see.
Anyone know about Samantha powers? Interesting looking woman.0 -
Btw PN, it should be possible, with time wasted, to negotiate payment for the work that needs doing. IME. And I had much higher value work done than a socket and line made live.0

I completely agree. But has it ever been any different? The victors seem to get to write their version of history (who was right, who was wrong), but what how was it at the time?
We definitely seem to be living in 'interesting' times.0 -
But I was only on my phone because there was a power cut...home now, about 30 minutes later they came round, said it was an area outage and we could go (no power means no AC, no ventilation, no water and of course no way to do any work)
Everywhere I've worked for years has had a uninterruptable power supply. Sometimes you end up on emergency lighting in older buildings. Nothing stops us making/losing money:D0
