I tried talking dog to lurched dog. She seemed to think it was wonderful that I was making an effort to speak her language. She then followed me round sniffing my bottom.

I guess the moral of the story is be careful what you say in another language if you don't understand it.

Though hopefully a falling out with Papa Ooh Mau Mau is a good thing.

    That's incredible.

Is she communicative too? For example, quite a few dogs will point out when they feel its time for supper, subtly with a lick of the lips every now and then, or less subtly with the odd snap of the chops.

Dog dog at the week end came over and asked me to move from the arm chair and on to the sofa. It was clearly executed but polite, fir laughed and said he never thought he'd understand a dog.

Kiwi is less communicative, he is very alert but not as 'clever' iykwim'.

Where as 'less bright' sight hounds than kiwi have, I have found , been more communicative. I think its something to do with the very tight way hounds work maybe?

I think after dog dog I might have a saluki if I am still about. She's my dog of a lifetime and I feel another grey might suffer from expectation in her wake.

    That's funny about dog dog.

All of the dogs my parents have had have been pretty intelligent, and there have been others that I've been more on the same wavelength as, but lurcher dog is the first one that thinks she can speak human. She's not much of a barker, but she is very talkative. I noticed a few weeks back that if I mirror the sounds she makes and her head movements that she talks back to me and for quite a long time too, though I have no idea what she's trying to say. She seems to like it though, and Mum says that since I've been doing it my popularity with lurcherdog has gone through the roof. It's very strange.

In other ways she's not as communicative, or has trouble getting her point across. She's also extremely fastidiously clean, much more so than our other dogs, which weren't exactly messy. And she's like a teenager in that she needs to be told to get up in the morning. Dad tells her to get up but she ignores him for as long as she can get away with and then gets up reluctantly only when he's finished in the bathroom.

Try saying things you do know?

For example, you could 'laugh', grin and breath in a pant ing way, though, be a bit careful, its very close to distress/ pain, so it might worry her! If you don't mind her face touching your you could touch noses with her when you greet. Dog dog and I call this 'kiss' in English. Yesterday when I dared go out for a few hours when I came back I got five very hard kisses. ( on my cheeks)

Kiwi also kisses a bit, but mainly grins....big dog just pushes every one out of the way and demands attention. ;)

I think you are doing the right thing. She likes it. Try and work out what she means BT watching her. Easiest to work out would be 'nice food' if you give her a treat.....she's ask you for another in time. Attention or stroke might be dipping her head a little towards you.....difficult to know really.

Thanks lir, some really good ideas. I would like to try the noses thing, but I know I'll get a massive lick across my face, which I detest. We've been brought up not to let dogs lick us but this one is a rescue dog and clearly comes from somewhere she licks everyone. Overall she is a very good and easy going dog, she's fitted in just great other than the licking thing.

I am on the phone to BT - they agree it should have been activated yesterday. I am about to dash over to the old place to mow the lawn and bring the mower back here.... BT now advise me the "special team" will be calling me before 9am and I should wait for the call.

It's overcast/cool now - and weather says it'll be a heatwave, then torrential rain ..... so now is the best time for me to go and cut the grass (in case the call says to wait in all day today for the engineer/activation) .... so chancing that I can drive there, cut the lawn, clean the mower, get it into the car and back here in an hour.

    Back later.

Is there no rush hour in your neck of the woods? Round here no-one leaves home before 9.30 unless they have to get to work.

Cool NPs live in cool places, close to beaches :)

Sounds better than sweating in an office with broken air conditioning.

Went out for a walk, followed by some soup for lunch. Perhaps not the wisest of choices :rotfl:

I've booked the day off tomorrow so I can sweat at home instead (no soup though).
