Tip, or do some people still want these?
HIGHLY Prized.... some people bought a lifetime's supply before they were outlawed.... others just wish they'd thought of it.
While I like the idea of low energy lightbulbs= lower bills ... and they're handy as nightlights.... sometimes you simply can see/read/do anything by the paling, mellow, glow they dribble out.lostinrates wrote: ».. does this include 40 watt ones?
Not really.0 -
Well, where to start.... Nikkster's fabulous, fabulous, fabulous.. .... works harder than a Trojan and you don't even have to feed her. I pointed at the fridge and said "stuff in there, help yourself" ... it wasn't a smorgasboard of goodness, it was a random selection of items from Lidl.
It was about 36 hours before I finally offered the get the kettle out; hadn't occurred to me really before that.
Nikkster mainly ate toast ... easiest/I had bread... and some crisps.
10 large sacks of gardening debris taken to the tip (3 rubble sucks and about 7 regular black bin liners). Old place cleaned too (4 hours spent on that).
Took a drive down to the water's edge on two occasions, for about an hour apiece. This amounts to: park, get out, amble along and say "this is lovely" .... there was a distant firework display on the Friday night that we got the full effect of as it was so far away and it was a clear view across miles of open water mostly.
No chips, no ice-creams. Nikkster works too hard for fun.
I now owe her a "proper holiday".
Best "decision" I made was to start on Saturday morning with an All you can eat Full English Breakfast at the Toby Carvery. Filled us up a treatThey don't do those Sundays or I'd have taken her back (not just to apologise!).
Lots more than that really .... hard to know where to start ... or it'd be the longest post on the thread
Got a great pressie - some solar lights that are cheery (and solar unit is powering up, which takes 2 days the first time). Nikkster brought a bottle of sparkling rose wine, which was lovely. We had a mug of that each and I've some in the fridge. (Yes, mugs).
All in all, a great weekend.... she can come back anytime!0 -
Ah, wonderful .
She's a woman who achieves, look at the pics of her place! And she is WONDERFUL.
Glad you had fun too, you're also wonderful. Fireworks sound gorgeous!0 -

!
Dangerous precedent set Nikkster.
You might get leant on by others. I keep saying you should see if there is any thing you want from are garden......should have said you need and weed/ mulch beds for it!
I shovel pruned a hardy fuscia yesterday. It was mainly there to take up space while bed establish but it had some horrid mildew and looked ugly and so, what was the point. Besides, I think I'm nearly at the point I'm going to divide some day lilies or crocosmia anyway.
And our yews have had the tiniest growth spurt, which made me think its almost time to think about the other side of the garden, but we'll lose so much privacy it will feel a shock to the system.0 -

It's hard to see how having a total of two neighbours within a 2 mile radius ... and an occasional passing tractor, horse or lost motorist, could affect privacy much
If I and my neighbours all sit at our patio doors .... about 15 households could hold a conversation just by raising our voices0 -

Thank you PN. That means a lot
I have no complaints about your hostess skills - you made me feel very welcome and comfortable in your home. That is everything I need. I clearly had no problems sleeping as I was never the first one up!
So... depsite me arriving significantly later than forecast (well, it was a Friday night in the summer...), and looking like I was about to move in (I had brought a number of bags with me), PN managed to hide any fear in her eyes very well
PN's new gaff is lovely - yes, there are rawl plugs that have been left in the walls and a few scuffed bits here and there, but it is so light and airy and I got just as good a feeling about it as when she shared the link to it online.
I'm so glad that PN has moved in the direction she has as Pastures Old is pretty dark and depressing. It's overshadowed by huge trees and the house next door. It's great knowing that PN won't be staying there any more. Definitely no excuses not to see passing space stations - the view of the sky is amazing.
PN let me take her out of her comfort zone by plying her with wine, I even managed to force a hug on her before leaving. And she's still invited me back!0 -
OMG, pn, that's momentous! I want a hug!0

Sounds to me as if she has given you about a week offTime to get out the folding garden chair and do a survey on the best spots to chill at different times of day
