Nice People 12: Nice in Nice

If I were you, which I'm not, I'd say, "Balls to the curtains, I've only been here a couple of days. Look at the lovely stars/clouds out of the window". Several people have commented how lovely it is that you enjoy the light in the house. Why ruin that with curtains?
I'd tidy up a bit, have a nice shower, dress in some clothes that feel comfortable and presentable and put the kettle on.
I quite like sleeping with the curtains open. Can't do it at my house unless I sleep in the bath or in the single room as there are streetlights on the main road I live on.
Chances are your guest will be even less presentable than you areAnd yes, they will have spent the day at work looking like that.
Edit: cross posted with the 2 previous posts. My house looks like I'm a squatter. PN - you only moved in yesterday!!0 -

That brought back a memory of something from being a kid.
I worked out how to take the front off the street lights in my road. Once I did that there was a timer inside, rather like the timer on a boiler with those pins for on and off times. If I turned the timer so that the lights were on in the day, they were off at night which meant I could see more stars!
What could possibly go wrong? A 7 y/o kid messing about with the electrics in a street lamp.
When I look back, I honestly have no idea as to how I made it through to adulthood.0 -

It was a very beautiful thing to do.
I was working 80+ hour weeks (plus a 3 hour a day commute). I had no more capacity and Mrs Generali was very sick.
She came over and just took over from Mrs Generali for a day. It was a wonderful act of kindness and one I feel I need to repay in equal measure by helping out someone else who is suffering.
Fwiw I 'm still a little cross with you for not letting us know how bleak things were just before you left. I would have liked to chip in with some groceries at least.
Its not about repaying really, is it? Its about....being decent people in general. Having become chums its much easier to want to help people you care about, but its just about...being who you'd want generalissimos to meet when they make friends/ work some where/ or May fate not be so, need help.0 -

I know. I went into some sort of melt down which I've never properly come out of honestly.lostinrates wrote: »Its not about repaying really, is it? Its about....being decent people in general. It's a bit of both.
Yes, it's about being decent but also I think sometimes it's important to pass something on.
Years ago, a mate had taken up golf a while earlier and he gave me his old clubs. He said to me, "If you use 'em, keep 'em. If you don't, make sure you pass them on. No charge".
I had a go at learning golf and hated it. I could have sold the clubs but I chatted to people until I found a friend who was thinking of taking up golf and I gave him the clubs with the same proviso.
Sometimes I think that I learned a valuable lesson there. Sometimes you just do the right thing but sometimes you look for the right thing to do. IYSWIM.0 -
Things change us Gen. We change. Its how it is.

I suspect tea tonight will have to be a choice of: McD's or good chips.
Then: eat at the Quay, then walk along a beach. Or eat overlooking a beach, walk on that one, then drive to look at the Quay.0 -
It's sooo hot, I'm dripping with sweat, even though I'm not actually doing much! Small, occasional breeze now though ... so maybe it's cooling down.
Fluffy baby seagulls seem to be "living" on top of neighbour's conservatory - so every time I look out of the window I get two small fluffy faces looking at me.0 -

I will (eventually) get my own choice of curtains & poles, in time.Yes, it's about being decent but also I think sometimes it's important to pass something on.

I have a friend who has talked of getting a set of clubs for ages, but can't afford it, for a number of reasons. Dad also had a clear out & supplied a collection of balls, tees etc, & even a bag.
The lot was given to friend for free.
Similarly, I'll be giving my car to a friend who has a disabled child, if I ever manage to get an eos that I like that is affordable. I'd rather they use the car for 3-4 years than scrap it myself. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
