PN I've mentioned the garden - I had 12 sacks of strimmed grass. I've chopped numerous very thorny trees/bushes which had overgrown (up to 32 sacks now, & the biggest tree yet to be felled).
Sounds like your house was in a worse state then mine and promises broken. The thing about curtains is you need "something" up .... just for security's sake and to not make it look empty/ish. And it's not until you're in that you've the time to ponder and wonder what sort of curtains you'd like ... and source them.
My garden's a dreamPatio and grass that must have been cut in the last 2 weeks. Well, that's the back. The front strip/approach path has been completely neglected for months, although I did look at the agent's photos (taken in March) and it didn't look so bad, but the camera angle didn't show the area.... they've grown 2' since then too.
In fact, upon meeting the nice new neighbours, the state of the front was mentioned.... and we laughed. I said I had somebody coming to sort it. He was keen to tidy up his front piece, maybe put a bench out there for the evening sun, but wanted to know where his boundary actually was .... and I guess wondering if his effort would be worth it if the triffids were to be encouraged further.0 -
I have health appointments various over the last couple of days. This is truly dull but I am posting anyway.
Yesterday was excellent, diabetic review and although I am the upper end of the I have not got any worse overall so will not switch to insulin, and will keep me on the non insulin injectable that is usually only prescribed for a year.
My swinging levels is likely to be diet (which I knew) and stress (which I did not know) related. The self imposed restriction on driving when my levels are high..I do not need to do. Although it is possible my little car accident was due to a Hyper, that is very rare, it is more likely I had a full Hypo as the cake had not kicked in, but by the time I measured me it had and I had a post hypo high anyway. The morning high results from night hypos. So this should be manageable by me.
Other good stuff was my cholesterol was 4.8 and also stable.
So last night, I drove myself to and from a supper with girlfirends..I have been picked up and driven about for teh last few months if I have gone out in the evening. Felt like afully functioning adult again.
Had a Cons Appt today, reported that the increased hormones are working, how much better life had been over the aslt weeks and I felt able to plan a few days away in August with OH to go to Moscow....sent in for scan....back in with Cons...advised not to travel. Told I may be absolutely fine...but .
So overall good...but still can't plan. I also want to go to Falmouth for the BH weekend and to Greenwich teh following weekend..feel I can't commit to those either.0 -

Tempted to drive out to get some voiles for the windows, but concerned that I might make a 30-40 mile round trip to find they've no stock.
Is that to Ikea?0 -
That was wonderful
It was a very beautiful thing to do.
I was working 80+ hour weeks (plus a 3 hour a day commute). I had no more capacity and Mrs Generali was very sick.
She came over and just took over from Mrs Generali for a day. It was a wonderful act of kindness and one I feel I need to repay in equal measure by helping out someone else who is suffering.0 -

What a nuisance.... I hope you get to Falmouth, I presume you wouldn't be driving, so can "plan" that bit to some degree; just know where the hospitals are. There's one at Falmouth, but not a "proper one", the only "full and proper one" in Cornwall is at Truro, just off the A30 roundabout.0 -
Is that to Ikea?
Hadn't even though of Ikea to be honest... it's the other way. I was thinking The Range and Wilko.
I'll check what Ikea have.... although I am hot and sweaty and smelly - so do I really fancy a drive where I've never been, to dash and grab some curtains, then get back here before my visitor arrives early evening..... or should I just say "so what, no curtains" and move boxes about...?
Had a look at Ikea, seems they do have some... although they're too long, that wouldn't matter... it's better than hanging something that's at half mast!
Just maps.google'd it. 1.5 hours there/back .... and 45 miles there/back. I think I'd rather go without and plan an Ikea trip another day .... to get everything, when I don't feel overwhelmed by the 101 other things I could be doing here. It's tough this daft curtain issue.... all I wanted was "something".... and the one job alone is nothing, but with the 101 other tasks it slides.....
Before my visitor arrives, I still need to: give the kitchen cupboards their final clean ... and put stuff away (can't decide where stuff's going to go either!). Then move boxes back/forth and upstairs etc. Vacuum throughout again .... and I could stop there, but there would still be another 99 jobs to crack on with after those. They'd just be the essentials so it didn't look like I moved in 10 minutes ago.
And ... the main issue ... it's so hot, stuffy, windless, breezeless, slightly muggy .... and every movement makes me sweat ... drinking gallons of liquids here just to keep going!0 -

If I were you, which I'm not, I'd say, "Balls to the curtains, I've only been here a couple of days. Look at the lovely stars/clouds out of the window". Several people have commented how lovely it is that you enjoy the light in the house. Why ruin that with curtains?
I'd tidy up a bit, have a nice shower, dress in some clothes that feel comfortable and presentable and put the kettle on.0 -

Yeah, she's not expecting much is she..... being near a beach automatically makes everything else OK. I should get it down as far as just having four boxes in the kitchen (by moving them into my bedroom mostly). Plan A was: put a bunch of stuff in the shed, but the shed's insecure and they left some bits/bobs and I had a shelf unit, which I couldn't fathom out how to construct ..... so it didn't happen.
The Moving Plan A was to get the best price, so I put the job out to quote as being "all ground floor", knowing I'd have to sort out what's what and take clothes, sheets, bedding, towels, paperwork, paraphernalia, clutter upstairs myself..... and I do take a box up every time I go up ... and I even make some trips JUST to take a box up. One of the things is that in addition to my own stuff, I've several boxes of my parents' stuff that I grabbed during the clear out process etc... that needed space/a proper head on to go through and sort out. Every box ultimately takes up room .....
Doors lock, windows show seagulls, stuff probably all works OK/safely as it's fairly new. What more could anybody want ?0 -
