Frump to Fab - Onwards and Upwards

Afternoon All
Not much fabbing for me over the weekend as it was spent doing jobs around the garden, stacking wood, picking apples, sweeping leaves etc. However, this morning I had to go into work to give a talk to 60 primary school children who were visiting so I dressed up a little. I'm wearing a long sleeved purple Oasis tunic, teamed with black leggings, high heeled ankle boots and a dramatic necklace. The talk went well and I'm back home now - but due back at work at 4.30. I shall stick to the same outfit but with a lower heeled pair of boots.
I had an early morning run with 2 friends at 7.30 am. We did 3 miles in just under 40 minutes which I was quite pleased with.
Since I got back from work I've had lunch and wrapped lots of the apples in newspaper ready to store them over the winter. I could have done with cooking up some of the more battered ones but felt too tired so have been relaxing on the settee with a book instead.
Tomorrow I'm having my hair cut and blow dried. I am enjoying having the slightly longer length so shan't have much off - more of a tidy up I think. It's handy being able to tie it back or put it up when it isn't behaving itself, which seem to be a lot more than when I was younger.
Hope everyone has a good week.

My sister, who lives at opposite end of country, has been exactly the same strangely. However have had Shellac nails done three times on groupon deals and also a neck and back massage to help stiff muscles, so continuing with the fabbing. It does help I think.
Sorry to hear that you are struggling. Grief really does takes its toll doesn't it. Sometimes I'm ok, some days I just feel dreadful. Today my neck glands are hurting again.
I do agree though it's the overwhelming tiredness that is the worst, some days it just takes over.
In fact I feel sleepy right now…… so will have a little lie down soon before I cook dinner.
Welcome FeistyFemme - sounds like you have a plan.
Good luck with it all and keep us informed of your progress..
Rummer - look forward to hearing your plans. You are so right - "Life really is full of potential".
It's up to us to grab it and run with it, which is what I'm trying to do, albeit it's a bit slow and steady for me right now rather than full on pell mell excitement. Still slow but steady is good.
I have been busy this week, cracking on with the house, prepping for the decorating work, choosing carpets and accessories. I have ordered a few pieces of furniture so it's all coming together at last.
It's all taking much longer than I had originally hoped and planned for but hey-ho. It will all come right in the end.
I have learned so much on this project that I can take forward with me. The next one will be so much easier, not least because I will most definitely not be living on site. Never again. :rotfl::rotfl:
Yesterday I had a nice declutter and now have a pile in my car boot ready for the tip tomorrow. I also made a start on my wardrobe and will tackle the chests and cupboards later this week. I'm being ruthless.
I also need to get rid of a load of old household stuff that I no longer need or want. Simple living here I come. It's a long drawn out process though. I still have a small warehouse worth of stuff at DS1's house to go through but thankfully his house is big and rambling so it doesn't really impinge on him, so I can go through that lot next year. Most of that will need to go to auction so I need to sort through it all quite carefully.
Other than that not much news here.
Did go to see a little film called "What did you do in the holidays" with Billy Connolly, Rosamund Pike (she is so beautiful and elegant) and the gorgeous David Tennant together with a host of fab British actors.
(If you like the British version of Death at a Funeral you will love this film). I won't give the plot away but it's one of those typically quirky little comedies that the British Film Industry does so well. subtle and understated and very very funny. Just what the doctor ordered.;)
Time for a short rest and then cook dinner, homemade chicken stirfry - yum, yum, even if I do say so myself. :rotfl:

Afternoon or should it be Evening All.
It's very quiet on here at the moment - I hope everyone is ok and that those who are struggling with problems have had an easier day. I have been getting quite tired some days and woke up this morning feeling quite exhausted. I was supposed to be going for a run but picked the phone up and cancelled, then went promptly back to sleep for a couple of hours. I was woken by the phone - it was DS asking me to go and help DGD's class with their library visit as he and DDiL were ill. I had a lovely time and even got asked by one person if I was DGD's Mum!
This afternoon DH and I went off for a trip to our nearest city. We treated ourselves to fish and chips then he went off to meet a couple of friends for coffee whilst I had a little shopping expedition. I treated myself to a scrunchie for my hair that looks like an extra bit of hair - to go round a ponytail or bun. It matches my hair perfectly and when I tried pinning it on this evening at the nape of my neck with a big black bow it looked quite elegant.
I also found some brand new Per Una jeans in a charity shop. I think they must have been samples or something as there were lots - but in small sizes and short so ideal for me. I bought 5 pairs!!!! Not all the same I hasten to add and I only spent just under £23 in all so less than one pair would have cost new. I bought blue, black, dark grey in 2 weights - some size 8 and some size 10. All fit so I am going to pack the lighter weight ones away for summer.
Since I got back I have mixed up an experimental cake for a coffee morning I am going to tomorrow. Its a mixture of sticky toffee pudding and dutch apple cake so I am calling it toffee apple cake and hope it works. As soon as it is out of the oven I am off out to aerobics and also trying a new circuits class just before which is on offer at £1. Hopefully that will help burn up some of the fish and chips and cake bowl scrapings I have indulged in.
Have a good evening everyone.
Rose
We saw the film What We Did On Our Holiday last week LL and loved it too. I can recommend it to anyone who likes typical British humour mixed in with a bit of poignancy.Weight Loss Challenge 5/7/19 10st 6lbs

Hello all,
Well I have lost 1 lb which is great
, it's a start... The less you want to loose the harder it is sometimes I think. I haven't been great at the sugar free and have slipped on that but trying to be as good as I can. I have reduced it greatly so that is a start, but goodness it's hard.
Finding the weather a bit of a drag and it's really difficult to get the motivation going.. Feeling low motivation everywhere at the moment.
Anniversary tomorrow so OH and I are going to see billy Connolly tomorrow night so really looking forward to that..

Rose well done on your jeans purchases thats an Excellant set of purchases.
LL hope you are relaxing and taking care if yourself.
Rummer looking forward to hearing your new news... I'm starting to feel like someone should take me aside and do the same. I feel like a frump. Most days at the moment- not sure sugar happening.
Hope everyone is well0 -
Rose Wood well done on the jeans find! Sounds like a successful charity shop hunt!
Sweetcheeks well done on your weight loss! Hopefully that gives you the motivation to keep going.
I had my hair cut yesterday. I hated it when it was done and as soon s I got home I washed it myself (the woman blow dried it super sleek and straight, which I hate). I've never understood these people who say that they love going to the hairdressers and they feel wonderful when they come out, I always hate it! The guy who used to cut it (I'd only seen him twice but I actually liked the cut so was going to keep seeing him) has left so I'm trying out the other stylists now. I feel a bit better about it this morning and had has some compliments so maybe I just need to get used to it.No more goo hoarding!

I have kept up with the skincare and looking after myself in every department other than food. I have piled weight on recently - to the extent that most of my clothes don't fit. the irony being that it's because I've been trying to change my diet. Dairy free is not for me, it's lead to me eating so much more sugar it's ridiculous, so I'm going back to my cow milk in tea and not worrying if I have some butter on the rare occasions I have bread.
Hope everyone else is OK today and the slightly grey weather isn't getting anyone down.
I am having the same problem with weight. I haven't posted much as it feels like the big elephant in the room. I tried a bit if dairy free too and couldn't do it either. My dd has been staying here on and off and she is vegan. I have a wide range of vegetarian recipes as OH and DD were vegetarian for years, but other than soups & curries (which dd hates) vegan eludes me.0 -
Rose wood what a fabulous charity shop find with those jeans

Damn and blast, just wrote a chatty post and lost it.......
good morning ladies.
Hope you are all well. After a gloomy start it's finally starting to brighten up here. I do so dislike these murky days. And of course the clocks go back soon just to make matters worse.
I'm not feeling so hot at the moment. I struggle to sleep sometimes so I do feel very tired and a bit low. Yesterday I was a bit tearful but I guess it's still early days and grief has to be allowed to run its course.
I have decided to scale back on my schedule and just try and go with the flow. I am having a quiet at home day today, just pottering around the house. I shall go,for a little walk before lunch. The sunshine is very weak but at least it's made an appearance today so a walk in the fresh air should help. There is a little park nearby which I have not visited yet, so I shall investigate that.
I have noticed that the boys are a bit subdued sometimes and they are staying close and not straying very far. I guess they are finding comfort and solace in familiarity and routine.
DS1 is going to the U.S. for work soon and has decided to extend the trip And build in a little holiday when the work bit is done.
I think it's a good idea, it will do him good.
I have decided to book a little spa break for my sister and I in November so that is something nice to look forward to. Although I would probably benefit from a proper holiday I don't really think I could cope at the moment. I just don't fancy travelling and like the boys am happy just staying close.
I have been doing a fair bit of decluttering, sorting out and organising. I bought some new energy saving light bulbs. It felt a bit wasteful because the ones we inherited were working ok but they were so dim, really depressing. The new ones are much better, giving off a much better light and the running costs are lower too so perhaps not too extravagant in the long run.
Rose wood - I agree what a fabulous find with those jeans. I had a mooch round a charity shop yesterday but didn't buy anything. I took two bags in though as a result of my decluttering efforts.
Right back to the pottering but first that little walk to clear the cobwebs.
Have a good day.....0 -
Hi all,
We've read some really great suggestions on this thread and we'd like to offer some more ideas to help you feel fab. Other ways of feeling fab is to look at your diet and becoming more active. Perhaps you could think about doing exercise with family of friends. When it comes to making a meal, get everyone involved to make a healthy nutritious meal.

Your website advocates swapping cheese and butter for low fat versions. But what about the extra sugar and salt added to low fat products? isn't it generally accepted these days that eating fat won't in itself make you fat?0
