Thank you Maman :), I did fill in all the forms, although I had to leave them at work for the witness statement to be filled in. I am waiting to see how the MRI goes before I decide what to do next. I really like my job and hope to be fit enough to go back within a reasonable time frame.

I like the idea of fabulous Fridays and your holiday. I hope you have a lovely time.

    A busy thread today!

Pru So sorry to hear about your back, please keep us up to date on how you are doing.

LL It is so important to have your affairs in order for all eventualities and as you say it is practical and not morbid. Glad to hear your mums doctor is taking all wishes into account, that must be a relief for you! As for fleas get stronghold flea treatment through your vet (prescription only) and get Indorex to spray the house and that should shift them. Then treat once a month with the stronghold. Don't waste money on pet shop/supermarket treatments they don't work. Keep up the healthy eating :D

Maman Hope you have a fabulous break away :D

Lizzie Great advice from the others already so not much to add. The Feliway doesn't smell though so maybe worth trying that.

VJ :j yay for oodles of shoes!

Alec Well done for being ruthless :)

Well today I looked fab and even managed to buy a pair of jeans :j they are from Next and are their relaxed skinny jeans which fit great. My look made up for yesterday when I wore a dreadful outfit and went out with grim hair :rotfl: I may not be fabulous every day but I am trying!

I am currently wearing jeans :D It has been years since I wore nice fitting jeans and it feels very strange :rotfl:

I have a question that you may be able to help me with. A couple of my dresses are really prone to static and as such stick to my legs when I wear them which, as you will agree, is not a classy look :rotfl: So how do I fix it? I have tried air drying the dress and tights instead of tumble drying and I have tried a metal clip on the hem as well as spraying the area with hairspray and nothing has worked. What else can I do?

Rummer - the answer to that one is anti-static underwear. You can get either a waist slip if the dresses just cling to the legs, or full length ones if needed. Actually the full length ones can really help the line and fall of a dress, hiding minor lumps and bumps and helping avoid the dreaded VPL - visible panty line. They can make a cheap dress look a lot more expensive than it really is by improving the way it hangs.

Having a nice lazy day, just pottering around. Just going to nip out for a walk to the local shop and then play at being a domestic goddess when I get back. Also need to write a few letters. Other than that no plans. I might get the iron out, then again I might not:rotfl:

Happy birthday for yesterday, Rosy. Hope you had a nice day.

I didn't even know there was such a thing :rotfl: I will be investing in on the next time I am in town as I have a few outfits that I am reluctant to wear due to their cling factor!

Marks and Sparks, also Amazon. ;)

No I don't suppose many of you young things ever wore slips or petticoats as they were called back in the day.

Professional dressmakers used to say that it was the petticoat that "made" the ball gown. The petticoat has a long and glorious history, shame so many people are no longer aware of their value.

I do like tailored dresses to be fully lined because they do hang so much better but not even some of the premium brands line dresses these days.

My back is playing up today, so going to have a stretch out on the sofa for N hour or so then cook a nice healthy dinner.

    Speaking of undies .........

I do think that good underwear can work wonders, a good well fitting bra, magic pants and when necessary an underskirt can hide a multitude of sins.

Having said that my tummy feels nice and flat since I've been eating Paleo style. All that horrid bloating is gone although my ankles still get rather puffy but I'm hoping they will also improve.

I'll try and get you a link to the "can can" underskirt. Horrid scratchy things but they made 50's dresses look fab.

Sorry not very good at links, can,t get it to work but if you google it you'll see lots of pictures. They are sometimes called rockabilly petticoats.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane........

I've a spare hour before work so thought I'd do a quick post. I agree about good undies making an outfit and also well fitting garments making a difference to how your figure looks. I'm trying to choose clothes that fit well and totally ignore the size labels inside. They vary so much anyway from brand to brand and even within brands.

I've had a few bad days of eating and need to get back to healthy eating. I know I feel much better ditching grains and sugar, but still keep succumbing! I also think I get too hot at night if I've been eating sugar - don't know whether it's my imagination or a real link. I must try to keep track of what I'm eating and see if there is something in it.

I've already been into work for 3 hours this morning and am back again this evening. Today I'm wearing smart cotton trousers in a teeny tiny black/white fleck. I've teamed them with a white long sleeed Per Una top with a band of grey and silver embroidery down the front and black ankle boots. My hair has gone quite well today - though I had to use the straighteners to get a nice smooth shape - so I'm wearing it down rather than tied out of the way. My stomach doesn't feel as flat as it was doing though so I need to cut back a bit more after the lapses of the week.

My exercise today has been walking to and fro - should be about 3 miles once I get back to work this evening. I'm going to pack up a flask of soup for my tea to take with me, but no bread.

    Enjoy the weekend everyone.

  • I've been getting hot at times too. I just assumed that it was hormonal, however I've not had a period for 10 years

I did read somewhere that excess sweating could be a sign of diabetes:eek:

I am at risk because it runs in the female line of our family. This is one of the reasons I'm eating Paleo style because it is supposed to rebalance insulin levels. My last diabetes check was negative but as that was a couple of years ago I suppose I ought to get it checked again.

Lizzie I haven't read your full story yet, but I had a lot of problems with cat pee for a while from cats that came in through the cat flap. I eventually had to put it on 'one way' to stop them getting in. I tried all the steps above but it never went 100%. Then I read on another forum a recommendation for Fabreze air effects spray. I used it after cleaning as above and it thankfully removed those last traces of pee. Even on a very hot summer's day the smell had gone. I purchased it from Home Bargains for £1.99 and it was well worth it.

Thanks pru I'll give it a try.

I am off work with back pain. I hurt myself at the start of term moving furniture in my classroom. I was off for two weeks and 10 days after being back I got injured again by a pupil. I saw the consultant on Tuesday who has arranged an MRI scan for next Tuesday and saw the physio this morning. It so disappointing as all the good work I did with exercising in the holidays has been undone.

Oh no hope it all goes ok and you feel better soon)

I may give that a go then the one I had didn't smell too good at all.

Maman have a good break :)

Well done everyone else on the fabbing and sorting, it's good to see everyone taking care of themselves. Did manage a face massage and a nail tidy yesterday. Will finish off nails later and have a go at my eyebrows.

Up and down with everything else just sick of all the hassle. Really enjoyed my walk with the dog earlier -at least I could forget it all for an hour or 2.

    Enjoy your evening. :)

  • I love the 50's style of dress it's so flattering I have a couple on that style and they always make me feel good. I have been very aware of underwear and fitting correctly since I went up 1-2 sizes by getting measured correctly and now I look like I have a bust...
I agree also on static it's such a pain and can ruin an outfit.. A lot of the time it's cheaper fabrics: clothes that do it ( in my experience) and there isn't a lot to do in improving that. I am trying to be more conscious of the fitting correctly rather than what size is it when I am buying something new.

I didn't do fan Friday this week as ended up doing a shift with children and making 'gloup' to play with so we had a great time but defo a slouchy easy wash clothes day. Getting hair cut this Friday and highlights so looking forward to that hugely. Certainly part of the fab Friday this week :)

Rummer, dreadful outfit and grim hair made me laugh so much, that described me hugely these days... Most days sadly! Hopefully with a redo of wardrobe this will change bit I'm not one of these 'put together' ladies despite trying...

Rose, I too have eaten pretty badly none of which are helping me shift the love handles and spare tyre round my waist.. So unsightly!!! The rest is ok just this 'gut' which I'm feeding rather than shifting!

Anyway hope everyone is doing well :)
