• Morning everyone,

Rose Wood, I love your motivations for fabbing.

LL, I have been nipping in and out all morning, it's lovely in the garden today, so fresh with a hint of sea smell.

I received two compliments at the charity shop this week. The manager said I look "amazing" in the dress I was wearing (it is a nice dress), and the new volunteer we have from the local prison said he thought I was in my early 30s. So I will take that as a good thing.

More house fabbing today, and because the house is looking better I've been kinder to it too. Bought some very nice smelling floor cleaner yesterday and cleaned all the hard floors this morning. I know I haven't gone on and on about it as much here as I have on the messies thread but I am in love with my new floor!

Hope you all have a good day.

If your number one reason for wanting to fab up is vanity then you'll suit me fine rose wood!:rotfl:I'm exactly the same. I knew I needed to lose weight and cut back on wine and although I knew all the health and money arguments it was vanity that really motivated me. The others are a bonus.

My SIL wears those Ecco shoes LL. She swears by them because they support a weak ankle she has from an accident years ago and because they lace up she can adjust them if her ankle gets swollen. She always wears them when we're on sightseeing trips and yes, they are expensive. So very mse really.;)

Yay to the lovely floor Alec! Why not enjoy the satisfaction? But it was the hint of sea smell that got me. I was brought up by the sea and it always reminds me of home. I live quite near now (different bit of sea) but it involves a trip and before I just needed to walk to the end of the road.

Out for lunch with friends today so looking quite fab. Country pub, so jeans and stripey top are fine and although it's sunny it's not really warm enough for bare legs but I don't want to start on tights yet. Will take care with make up in a bit.

I completely agree about caf!/restaurant food LL. I know a few places have started putting calories next to dishes but there is a huge shortage of healthy ingredients. I try to eat very little bread and what I do eat is wholemeal. That's almost impossible to find (granary/brown yes but not w/meal). Loads of places have bread as the basis for most of their food whether it's ciabatta or focaccia or baguette it's still bread! Then there's huge amounts of frying and dressings/mayo on things. What I tend to do is just eat what I fancy when I'm out and then rein myself back in at home but that's not possible if it's a health issue rather than vanity.;)

Have a good day all.
• Sorry to hear of anyone struggling with aches, pains and illness in themselves or with family; Sweetcheeks its exceptionally hard going keeping up with anything when you have loved ones in the hospital I hope your OH is on the mend and you are feeling better soon. At times like that it can be so very hard to keep up with the basics and look after ourselves as well.

I went on a little shopping splurge this evening and bought myself a pair of trendy / slouchy / oooh la la silky black pants and a new top for Fab Friday.

I'm feeling really quite pleased as I always take two pairs of trousers into the changing rooms but felt pretty confident I'd get away with just the 12s with these, because they'd be quite forgiving - I was right that they fit perfectly. :D Those size 14s are soon gonna be a thing of the past. :T

If I have time after work tomorrow I'm going to treat myself to a pedicure.

• Sweet cheeks. So sorry to hear about your husband. I do hope all will be well again soon. You must be exhausted. Take care.

Oh dear there does seem to be such a lot of illness around at the moment. Sending good vibes to all who need them

Well they have picked up the car - again just another sign of the end of an era - another goodbye to links with OH. I get my new car tomorrow - the good thing is it will be a lot easier to park. I'm the worlds worst at parking......

I've blitzed the house and made a real difference to my bedroom. There are now several bags ready to go to either the charity shop, recycling and a few bits and pieces of OH's disability gadgets which I paid for. I'm going to try and sell those because I paid a lot of money for them.

Did anyone watch the Sarah Beeny programme. One of the projects was for a lady who was a wheelchair user and her disabled brother. The revamp was fantastic and some of the equipment was jaw dropping in its inventiveness and simplicity of use. Cost a small fortune of course but it just goes to show how poor the NHS equipment is by comparison.

I once spoke to a patient at my husbands nursing home who had once owned his own engineering company about this. I asked why we didn't do better given the sheer size of the NHS and it's purchasing power. He said it was just down to their inefficiency and that there was a lot of corruption at the top......

He agreed that better equipment would cut costs in the long term (ie more people at home rather than in institutions etc) but that it was all down to short term planning.

Given our ageing population - pure madness.

If I ruled the world ...:rotfl:

Sweetcheeks - I too am utterly bamboozled by the "Scottish Question" I lived in Scotland for about 6 years back in the 70's when the whole "Freedom for Scotland" thing was in its infancy - although for many Scots it was the manifestation of long held wounds and grievances against the English. Some families had been nursing grievances for generations.

I can understand and appreciate why some Scots want independence for all sorts of historical and emotional reasons. When I was there the Highland Clearances were still a source of much bitterness and I can't say I blame people for feeling thAt way - not England's finest hour.

I'm not sure how Scotland would fare economically or indeed the wider impact on UK PLC - there seems so much conflicting information.

Without wishing to be all doom and gloom I don't think our "economic recovery" is all that it's cracked up to be. Our financial systems are fragile and unstable at the best of times.

Tbh I think Britain's days as a superpower are well and truly over but no one, least of all our politicians, want to admit it. The Empire is dead and when empires die they break up into smaller countries and individual independent states and countries. Maybe in the long run smaller independent countries are a good thing, each having their own autonmomy.

Catalonia is a very good example of an area which fought for and finally won complete autonomy. It worked well for them. Meanwhile the Basque region is still fighting for independence.

Seen from the outside or in an historical context it is interesting. However to people living through the upheaval it's not always comfortable.

As the old Chinese curse goes "may you live in interesting times".

As you know by now I am one of life's crazy optimists but even I have to face the fact that our children and grandchildren face a period of change and uncertainity. The best we can do is help them as much as we can, providing them with the education and teaching them the personal skills they will need.

Ooh get me getting all philosophical - time for lunch ...... :rotfl:

Hello again Bitsy and Tru
Fingers crossed Bitsy for your OH's job to become permanent.
Tru, pleased to hear that your hip problem is getting better/more manageable, are you still delegating at home ;)
Sweetcheeks, wishing a speedy recovery for your husband.
Rose Wood, don't worry 60 is the new 50 it's great.

I finally finished the steam cleaning! It has been so hot this week I could only do it in short bursts first thing in the morning.
I have had family staying for the last five weeks  and now I am trying to get things 'straight' for my sisters' visit/holiday next month, joy!

I have given myself a much needed manicure and will tackle the tooties this evening.
My eyebrows need more definition, but know if I use a brow pencil I will forget and rub my face! Any suggestion please other than putting mittens on :rotfl:

LL, do you have a health foody type cafe in your area that might have wheat free bread? A veggie cafe I used to go to had alternative breads.
I'm pleased to hear a furry heartbeat has found a home with you, I lurve cats.

I can hear the kettle so time to sit outside with a nice cuppa, In this heat I would prefer a mango smoothie but.....:naughty:

• Hello, a short visit this am..

Carmen welcome back again and well done on the steam cleaning- a mucky job but great when it's done. I scrubbed and bleached the whole house again ( I had just done it before holiday!) so that it was nice a clean for OH coming out hospital and all trace of bugs gone! He is better than he was but will need a few days to recoupe strength again.

Went to have lazy bath to relax last night and was Luke warm as not enough hot water.. Sigh! Getting enough hours in bed but still feeling shattered, working this weekend too :(

Thinking more about what I'm eating LL and considered food sensitivity testing, have you done this or do you reduce wheat is is better for you?

Anyway off to get ready for work

Morning :hello:

Bitsy Great news about DH's job :T

sweetcheeks I hope you start to feel better soon xx

Carmen If by delegating you mean throwing a strop and going on strike, then yes :D It stopped having an effect - they know I can't relax if things are messy and I'll end up doing things anyway. So I've changed tactics slighty :rotfl: They're not too happy but can't complain because they know it's their mess and they're the ones in the wrong.

I'm going on holiday at the end of the month so I'm going to buy some new clothes next week. Leggings and jumpers/chunky cardigans are top of the list. M&S leggings last much longer than others, plus they don't shrink in the wash. I've bought them from different shops before and they start off long and end up pretty much three-quarter length. I'll go to New Look for cardigans, they always have a good selection. sweaty betty I'll keep an eye out for brown and report back :D

I was expecting to feel sore yesterday, I usually do the day after seeing the osteo. But I was fine – which is good, but I'd rushed to get everything done the day before so I could take it easy and I didn't need to, so I was a bit bored :D

• Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Fabbing for today is a trip to the hairdressers to get some highlights put in. It's a bit of an unknown territory as my previous hairdresser has just retired after doing my hair for the past 25 years!! I used to drive to him so now he has gone I am trying one in walking distance so its fingers crossed she does a good job.

I've been to Yoga this morning and followed it with coffee with friends. Later we are going shopping and treating my Mother to a meal out so I am saving calories for that.

I got weighed this morning and was a couple of pounds lower than I thought which was a boost - as was DH who when I took him a cup of tea in bed yesterday morning opened his eyes and said 'Oh you look nice'. Obviously, taking care with the outfit yesterday paid off!

• Hi everyone

Just stopping by to remind you all it's Fab Friday - so glad rags on and best, well shod foot forward.:D I did dress up this morning but have now changed into my lounging around the house gear.

Had a very expensive morning, took delivery and paid for my new car, bought a new Hoover and a new combi microwave. Ouch.... Oh and some diy supplies.

Had a sleepless night so going to take it relatively easy this afternoon and maybe have a little potter in the garden I need to transplant some shrubs into bigger pots but will get DS2 to do the really big ones.

I'm afraid I didn't manage Pilates this morning - I just couldn't face it.

Not sure what's happening with mum, she has more or less stopped eating and is very sleepy. Not a good sign. She told my sister and I that she wants to die. She is 89 and in a lot of pain and discomfort so if she is ready then who am I to argue. It will be hard to lose both my husband and my mum within a couple of months of each other but I mustn't be selfish - if she wants to go sooner rather than later then so be it.

Rose - good luck with the new hairdresser. It's always an unknown quantity when you have to change hairdressers.

Sweetcheeks - no I've not had any food tests. I just worked it out for myself. I can eat wheat in moderation, it's just I can tell when I've overdone it. I just feel bleugh although not seriously ill or anything. As far as i can tell The only food I really cannot eat is fresh pineapple. I would be in agony, although oddly enough I'm can manage the odd bit of tinned pineapple. Weird.....

I find it's just trial and error.

I just feel better if I eat well and sensibly. A few days of processed convenience foods and I feel quite grim, so it's just not worth it.

Good evening ladies,
Have you all had a Fab Friday? I hope so :A

Tru...lol, I remember your comments so well ;) I totally agree, as they say "don't sweat the small stuff" My son is still a messy individual, but he will only put up with it for so long before it drives HIM mad plus it's his O/H's problem now :rotfl::rotfl:

Rose, well done on the weight lose keep up the good work.
Hope you have found another good hairdresser?

I have had a good day, finally managed to give myself a mini pedicure. I have planned to have a pedicure proper next month, some thing to look forward to, I love being pampered.
I had a session in the garden so all the planters and window boxes are looking beautiful. had some lovely sweet grapes of my vine also

Well I am off to bed, bad night last night.
Good night ladies.
