Sky September increases 2014

Decided I could no longer justify subscribing to sky sports. Went on-line to MySky and cancelled. Immediately an offer came up on-screen "50% off for 3 months (£11 a month to pay) or 25% off for six months (£16.50 a month to pay).
I Still cancelled. But worth going to your My Sky and clicking the cancel sky sports option. It gave me the reduced offer before actually cancelling.0 -
I cancelled by phone in May, and within a week received a phone call offering 25% off for six months
I declined, and the caller went to 'confer' with his supervisor. He came back with the offer of 50% discount on my Sky World with HD on a new 12 month contract, which I accepted.
You have to be prepared to cancel and decline their first offers.
I guess Sky prefer to have £34 a month off me for a year than nothing at all."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Had the letter yesterday, rang them up, no budging on price or any offers, this after 20 years with sky, I cancelled and will buy a freesat recorder.0

Go for the Freetime box, Tom Jones. Its Freesats version of YouView. I was going to say if you have the budget for it, but after 3 months without Sky the box will have paid for itself.0 -
I'm currently paying £23.50 a month for the Variety bundle... If its going up to £28, it'll be back to the original package for me!0

According to the letter they sent me; the Variety bundle is going up by £1. After just cancelling sky sports, I now just have the Variety bundle. The letter says my future payments will be £25.75.
I only ever watch the documentary programmes from sky. As far as I know these only come with Variety bundle.0 -
Ignore. Ignore. Ignore.0

Thanks for that Bradfield! I watch a lot of docos, & didn't really want to give up Variety, but was not willing to pay so much more than what I currently pay.0

Its 11.4%. Thats an eye-watering amount saying they have added no significant new content. Indeed, they've lost some quite significant rights. Half the EPL first picks, half the Rugby first picks, the Aviva Premiership Rugby and The CL after next season.
With such an increase, it looks like they're going to bid big in the next EPL auction. The previous estimate on Skys MPB (maximum possible bid) was £2.3b. They can blow that out of the water now.poppasmurf_bewdley wrote: »
Apparently, we're getting Sky Sports 5.
I don't even watch Sky Sports 2 to 4, so why do I want number 5?
Fortunately, I've just started my latest half price 12 month deal. Otherwise I would have cancelled by now.
Sky should remember three words - 'straw' and camel's back'.
I want Sky Sports for two things, and two things only. English Premier League and Champions League. And the latter is disappearing after the next season.
The reasons for SS5 are threefold -
To get users to register, so the sales teams can get stuck into existing subbers to increase their packages. The free BB offer is dependent on taking Skys line rental as well. But do nothing and one would get it anyway.
To deny BT TV Sky subbers from watching the CL for next season.
To tie current subbers down into a new contract.
Still, they are a business, just like anyone else. They are only trying to protect what they've already got, user wise. Funny way of going about it though.
Edit - Oh, and on SS5 they have added the Eredivisie (the Dutch football league).
Sky has always worked on the basis of using its subscribers' money to buy up the exclusive rights for something that used to be free (or at least cheaper) and then selling it back to its hapless subscribers at a profit. It rips people off with their own money.
Mightily glad that I'm not interested in watching sport, myself. It's costing you lot a fortune, these days.
The aspect of it that worries me most is how many children are now deprived of things they need, and ought to have, because "Daddy has to have his footie."Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

Why don't you call cancellations and downgrade to Sports 1 only?
You will still get Sports 5 for Champions League included for free (like Sports 3 used to be in the old days) and you will be saving about £10 per month from September.0
