I'm sure in sky's terms and conditions that they have a clause whereby there allowed to increase premium channels ( movies and sports) as often and as much as they like ?

    Yes. But Its 10%.

Its also interesting to note for users on the top packages (£950 pa) Sky have kept the increase to £48 pa. Thereby keeping the total cost of TV below £1000 per year.

As has been said before Sky has not gained any major sports rights to justify such a large increase for the Sky Sports pack.

The worry for Sky is if they lose out on the lion's share of top picks to BT in the next year they will be faced with customers saying that they are paying more for less content.

I suspect next year there will be freezes across the board as BT looks to gain yet more of a footing in the TV market.

Presumably the "justification" for the SkySports increase being more than 10%,is that you have to have at least the "Original" bundle as well -thats staying at £21.50, so the overall package increase is 5.75%!!(Still a lot more than my OH and I got as a pension/salary increase!)
When I get my letter I'm finally going to bite the bullet and cancel! If all else fails ,my S-I-L has got a year's free Sky Go Extra ,so I'll sign on as one of his 4 users!

    Confirmed prices from September:

    Original Bundle £21.50
    Variety Bundle £28
    Family Bundle £33
    Movies £16.50
    Sports £24.50
So, what will my £28.50 Family bundle (still reduced, following the price freeze) be increased by (if it were to be increased to £33, that'd be almost a 16% increase)?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I currently pay £29.50 for the family bundle from the price freeze days and am hoping its only a £1 rise, any more and I'll think I get rid now, look back over the last 5 years in 2009 6 pack was £21.50 :(

This will take us up to £60 per month-is it worth ringing and threatening to cancel or will they be wise to that as probably everyone will be doing that??

To be honest we have looked at other options but the ability to record stuff is a big plus for us that I don't think anyone else offers so I think we're stuck with the hike :(

Many post on here will tell you that threats are pointless. You have to act.

You do have the option of buying a Freeview or Freesat PVR , as these enable you to record (two programmes at once, while watching a recording or third programme directly from the tv), fast forward, review and pause live programmes. More recent models than mine even have catch up services and, once you buy the equipment there's nothing more to pay.
