Yes most people move on with the times. My phone is a £9 PAYG special from Tesc0s. Quite frankly its so basic I'm always surprised when if makes phonecalls.:rotfl:

DH has an old MP3 player thingy I think. My goodness I'm such a technicological whizz.;)

I've have a very busy day today. I suddenly decided this afternoon that I couldn't stand the clutter in this house anymore so this afternoon I started on the junk cupboard from hell in the bedroom. I can actually walk into it now but I still have four bin bags of paperwork to sort through. No wonder I got into a financial pickle with the lack of organisation in my life. So anyway tomorrow I will finish off this part of the back and move onto the next. It actually feels good to get started on this and I plan to carry over the next few months. I have decided to spent half to one hour a day decluttering on work days and two hours per day on days off. If I can stick to this I should get this house sorted pretty quickly.

Off to do some more shredding. I just wish someone would invent a shredder which didn't stop working after every few sheets of paper.

  • well the fruit phones aren't really phones anymore but tiddler computers. Since I got my iPad i don't really use it for owt but texts and calls so I may look at using my Walkman again, but I've just seen one went on flEaBAY for £25.

Decluttering sounds fab. My house is feeling bigger already :)

When I got rid of my paperwork I ended up making giant paper mâch! with it eventually. It was easier to soak it in water.

  • Well done on all the decluttering I think shredding paper is very satisfying! I have one box with all my financial paperwork in it so if it doesn't fit in then something else needs to go.

I have a faithful mp3 player that I use for running, no fancy technology and my phone is quite a few years old too hubby wants me to get a new phone and go on his contract as we would get a better deal but I don't want an iphone and my monthly payment is only £10.50 so serves me well.

    Hope you're having a good day, C x

I have to agree in not upgrading if you're happy with what you have. Shedding is satisfying if the shredder doesn't keep stopping every few sheets like mine does. It takes forever to do a pile.

I have had a busy day today starting with long hair,a trip to the hairdressers and coming out with a short pixie cut.:j. My ears are cold though.

I have had another day of de-cluttering the bedroom, the third and I have to admit to flagging this afternoon. I suddenly got irritated and very bored and lay on the bed listening to Generation Terrorist and watching clouds float past. Anyway after about an hour I got a second wind, dumped the rubbish bag in the bin, put the charity shop bag in the car and brought the shredding downstairs and started shredding. To be honest I still have some stuff to do in there such as clearing off the top of the wardrobe and clearing under the bed as much as possible but when I went back in later I could see and feel the difference. Its given me a boost to carry on.

The kitchen and bathroom will take only a little work but the stairs need clearing which I will do tomorrow and the front sitting room is a complete nightmare full of toys, ironing and all my sewing stuff.......oh and a set of electronic drums:eek:. This room is going to take a lot of work but needs doing so I can do some maintenance in there and some decorating.tomorrow I'm going to sort the ironing then start sorting out the toys and other stuff. I also forgot to mention the 3 billion DVD's (not mine).

Anyway I have to say "Hello my name is Ali and I am a hoarder." :o

I have taken my eye of the finances in the past few days. This needs another look at to keep it all on track.I feel a much more organised year coming up.

  • Wow to the haircut, that's a massive change I hope you love it!

Well done on all the decluttering, I find that is my environment is tidy then other areas seem easier to concentrate on so I bet this will reflect on your organisation of the finances.

Good luck with sorting all the toys etc. Hope you're having a good weekend.

    A NEW START

Diary, again. Where do I start?

Things have gone wrong, very wrong and mostly it is due to my complete and utter lack of organisation. I also think I have had my REAL lightbulb moment. It seems a bit far into the journey but better late then never.

So what has happened? I couldn't make my DMP payment this month and didn't have enough to pay some of my direct debits. How? Disorganisation, bad maths, being a total idiot, you choose. So what do I do? Ask for help or spend most of the weekend fleeing to the bathroom to have a cry in private. I bet you can guess which one! To be fair DH kept asking what was wrong and when I said I was getting really down with the money thing and it had gone wrong he offered to give me the money and I could pay him back if I wanted too. I bet you can guess what I said. I declined as I didn't want him thinking I was using him for money. I know, he offered. Anyway I regretted it immediately but pride stood in the way so I didn't say anything. All day yesterday I kept trying to ask but no words came out.

Tonight I'm going to try to ask him because if not I'm going to have a breakdown I think. Things can't keep going on like this. I will ask for a months grace before starting to pay him back to get straight again and I'm going to complete memory girls budget and stick to it. I'm also going to insist DH has my card so I can't keep popping out for a loaf and coming back with £20 worth of stuff.

I also opened a Tee S Bee account a while back when I thought Sm1le were going under so may transfer my current account. It sounds daft but I need a new start. A complete change. Things can't go on like this, another 8 years of debt will finish me off I think. Half of my thirties and all of my forties so far have been living this way. IT CANT GO ON.

Sorry to sound so negative but I can't get over my level of stupidity sometimes.

I need to look at finances forensically and plan ahead. The head in the clouds method is not working.

The post has arrived. Let's get on with it.

Recently I got a book out of the library called Island Wife by Judy Fairbairns. I managed to read half of it on Saturday and stood outside nursery today reading it. did I ever get some funny looks. Mind you I don't think some of the parents have ever seen a book before. Anyway I'm waffling. Its a great book but one thing that hit me was when she was talking about her mother in law and how she could make something out of nothing. I do like to follow the old style threads and there are some fantastic ideas many of which I do now but I think its time to hit this challenge hard.

I have joined Not Buying It 2015 challenge and have decided to use this challenge to help me with my own personal challenge of Making Something from Nothing as far as possible.

I have my fortnightly shop on Friday which usually costs around £60 split between us but I'm going to look at what we have in to cut this as low as possible. I have cut cheese from my diet (this could possible kill me - oh the sacrifice) but my purse and waistline will benefit. Also the laziness needs to go and I need to make the effort to buy as much as possible from the local market.

All non essential cars journeys are to go. This is where I'm going to have to start being more organised.

Finally for now I'm going to work out all the dd's to come out of my bank account and withdraw what's left over. I think visually this will make me more careful with what I'm spending my money on. Oh and £10 to go into a savings account to start an emergency fund.

Off to start planning the years veg planting.

    Hello diary.

So after a few days of plotting, planning and thinking about my recent feelings I have come to a major conclusion which is now blindingly obvious but has been a long time coming.

Anyway after a chat with DH he has paid off the last of the DMP and I will pay it back over the next year. The DMP has been a huge part of the problem as it was due to be paid off last year but when Payplan contacted creditors interest etc had been added and had increased the term by another year. This was a massive blow at the time and has caused me to feel very low at times. Since paying off what was the balance to Payplan my mood has improved so much I can barely believe it. I know that I still owe the money to DH but doing it this way I feel like I now have some control. And this it what I realised the problem was a couple of days ago............FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS I HAVE HAD NO CONTROL. Whilst in DMP I was advised not to overpay too often as creditors would want it to become a permanent thing, so I didn't.

I have also followed challenges on here such as A Payment A Day and Pay Of One Debt but always felt frustrated at not being able to fully join in. Today I'm free to push as hard as possible and pay off one debt at a time which will give me a further boost.

Now don't get me wrong the DMP helped me out when I needed it and I would advise anyone who needs help to contact one of the free companies but I have come to a point where I need to have control again and to try and feel like a normal person.

THE SPEED OF PAYMENTS AND THE DECISION TO OVERPAY IS NOW ALL IN MY CONTROL.

I now feel so much more confident about becoming debt free this year and look forward to everyday and every pound paid off to get there.

I'm off to pay off a bit more now.:)
