  • Oh, she is stunning! I can see why a photographer would want to take her picture. What amazing eyes!

  • SDW, have you seen the Horizon programmes this week called What's the Right Diet for You? Fascinating, helpful, non-judgmental and available on iplayer.

WaS, in case you're tempted, one episode does mention a woman whose eating problems stem from her childhood, but I don't think there's anything else, the situation she mentions is about being given bread not ordinary food, so may be not too bad.

    .
Do you know, what was interesting was that I was reading about this programme in Radio Times, and I skimmed through the descriptions of the different types of eaters, and I immediately said that I was a Constant Craver.
And guess what diet suits me best?
The 5:2! Which is the one I've been doing for over a year!

Sea monkeys are tiny shrimps! Lots of children have them as a first pet because they happily live in a small environment and only need feeding once a week, you never clean their tiny tank, just scrape off the algae for them to eat. I had some when I moved here and I wasn't allowed to keep them. They are also very clever. When they die they throw out a lot of eggs. These eggs can survive in a wet or dry environment. No matter how old they are as soon as they are placed back into water they hatch! Some have been found that are hundreds of years old that flourished.

I shall have a look, Solar!

  • I love seeing pics of peoples pets. I love cats but I can't really have one here because I am fairly close to a busy road and would be worried all the time.

I think having a pet might give me the motivation to 'do things', and get up in the morning. I have always had work to do, or, and mostly, people to look after. Now I am sitting on my own, looking at all the DIY that needs to be done and I am overwhelmed, eating too much because of the stress of it all and very unhappy.

Going back to lurk, I have said too much.

I think the idea to start with a plant is good. Get motivation before a pet. :)

Cats that cannot go outside would be good in your sort of home. Lots of reasons. Cat aids, deaf, mobility issues. :)

I am with you on that one, Joanthebone. It's so easy to be overwhelmed by what needs doing.

And I soooooooo want another dog. But because I'm out most days, sometimes for most of the day,and I go away a lot, it wouldn't be fair on a rescued dog, so it really isn't on at the moment. :( I can't tell you what good company a dog is. It loves you whatever mood you're in, however annoyed you get with them, doesn't answer back and doesn't ask for money! :D
I've had cats in the past, but after my last one died I realised that I was allergic to them, which was why I'd had perennial rhinitis for 8years, so I daren't have any more. :(

My cat with kidney failure never went out, Joan. She has various problems attached to her bad start in life and her immune system was terrible so we kept her indoors. She was so happy that we could open a window for her so she could sit on the ledge but she never, ever actually wanted to be outside.

Take it all slowly. Perhaps make a list and start with something small. When I have lots of things to do I break it down into 10 minute stints, it is easier to cope with that way.

I have always wanted a dog. It isn't out of the realms of possibility if the renting wasn't a problem. It would certainly have company as I don't go anywhere and WaSp keeps getting nagged by doctors to walk daily because he has bad circulation in his legs, a dog might actually be a motivation for him to do it.

I have to say, rescuing Dumbass dog is the best thing I ever did. Even when I'm feeling blue, he still needs walks and getting out in the fresh air is so good for me. And he trots beside me with his happy wee face looking up at me or does funny things that make me laugh. When I'm sad he gives me cuddles and sometimes I tell him my problems. And, because we have to go outside, I get to say hello to all the neighbourhood dogs (all the friendly ones at least). They all know I'm a soft touch for biscuits so I get loads of doggy cuddles.

Starting with a plant is a bad idea. I kill all green things but manage to keep the dog alive.

I'd love another dog but the dog walker is expensive. Also dumbass dog is very well behaved and doesn't raid bins, counter tops etc and I worry another dog would teach him bad habits.

Also lir, your cats are gorgeous.
