  • No you didn't code!! I am nearly always here, you just can't see me!!

I have plants, they are ok but not much good for a cuddle!

I would not have a cat that did not go out and hunt, and live a cat-life iyswim? I would not want to be out in my garden and my cat not share it with me!

A little dog would be best I think, I like the idea of going for walks.

Thanks Joan, was getting a bit paranoid. A wee dog might be lovely company for you if you're ready to do that. If not, it could be something to aim for.

  • Joan & WaSp - do you have animal shelters anywhere near you? They are always wanting people to walk the dogs. That way you get access to dogs (maybe be allowed to being them home sometimes for a partner who doesn't get out much?) without the same level of commitment.
There's also http://www.cinnamon.org.uk/ (WaS - don't read about the origin of the organisation!) that matches people who can't walk their dogs possibly through age or illness with people who'd love a dog but can't take on on because of other commitments.
Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.

WaS, no landlord would object to you having a hamster like mine!..........:D :D:D

It's battery operated and furry. You can have it in or out of the ball. When in the ball, it runs around the floor just like a real hamster! I'd quite forgotten I had it! :rotfl:

I volunteered for the Cinnamon trust when I was between dogs.
You can do as little or as much as you like. Some people do shorter walks most days, I did one long walk once a week to fit around my shifts for an older lady who had very limited mobility and was worried just running around the garden wasn't enough for her dog. He used to wait for me at the door. :)
Or there's also giving lifts to vets, short term fostering, although I never put that on the list of things I wanted to do. It was a few years back now so things may have changed, but I did find it took them a while to get back to me, so if anyone does go for it don't get dispirited if you don't get a quick response.

Code, I'm not bad in the garden and grow some veg but I can't keep a house plant alive for much over a week. Black thumbs in that respect.

And with the right cat you could have a housecat but take it into the garden on a lead. I know a lot of cats don't get on with harnesses, but a colleague of mine had a cat that loved it, and you'd regularly see them trundling down the road together.

Pssst, don't tell WaS but its snowing here again.

Might check out the cinnamon trust if they operate up here and find doggy pals for dumbass dog's morning walk.

Eta: Its only England and Wales.

Gitdog refused to go for a walk today due to the cold. He's also spent most of the day asleep while I worked, which was brilliant considering he couldn't occupy himself for 5 minutes without creating when I first got him. However I strongly suspect I will suffer for it tomorrow.
Lir, your pets are lovely. And your house is immaculate compared to mine. I always take pictures of Gitdog then notice the piles of shoes, unhoovered carpet and piles of clothes on the settee.....

Don't know if it's the weather or what, but my internet connection is seriously iffy tonight.

elsien my internet is the same has been for a few days its really annoying I am missing watching my programmes on catch up. You are not with plusnet by any chance are you?

Love the pictures of your pet LIR they are all gorgeous.

I would really like another cat but have a dilemma. I have a visiting cat who belongs to next door but wont go in their house (they leave food for him outside). I let him in mine, at first it was just in the evenings but then I started to feel sorry for him out in the cold all night so he stays at mine and sleeps on my bed with me now :o

My previous cats who sadly had to be pts tolerated the neighbours cat (he never stayed the night when I had then) however if I get another one I am not sure if it would be fair on either of them, the new cat would want the house to himself and I would have to abandon the neighbours cat leaving him to live outside all the time :(

Thing is I really miss having a cat(s), the visiting one doesn't belong to me (I don't feed him) so its not the same as having my own.
