  • Penguin reply- Thank you, Pyxis. As you say it teaches us all to be more aware of seemingly innocent pains. Everyone who knew him is just in shock, he was moving to another state at the end of the month to live with his girlfriend and had a job there waiting for him. He was very happy which is both wonderful and sad all at once. Other than the 'indigestion' he was very healthy, regularly going to gym and had no known medical problems. It is just very sad and my friend will miss him very much.

Just to clarify- how I feel. I posted an emotive and detailed post that took considerable time and thought following a question and not one person actually commented on the content. Not one. Despite a number of regular users seeing the post. Rather than acknowledge me at all the converation went straight back to bread/cheese/fancy dress animals etc. Not one comment actually even acknowledged me.

This is the second time this has happened recently. I am disapointed as i try and be kind and helpful to you all. However the thread is becoming just a chat thread with genuine mental health posts overlooked and support not given where it would genuinely be of benefit. There are plenty of other chat threads and it is a shame this has become just another one. Of course there is a time for just chat and banter but it is a real shame when users reaching out are completely overlooked or ignored in the process.

This is just how I feel and I would rather be honest about that.

Thank you for being honest, haybel. We have been chatting a lot these days about random things, thank you again for the reminder about what this thread was for originally. I do think that there is a place for both but we have to be careful not to overlook the more serious posts in our excitement at the fun things!

I loved your post as I said at the time, you did so well at explaining EMDR that there was nothing else for me to comment on! I do understand that you might not want to repost it but I do think the thread would benefit from having a copy of it for our lurkers as well as posters. You summed things up very clearly in a way that everyone could understand and I think that it was a really helpful post.

I am so sorry that you felt ignored, I would never want anyone here to feel that. I love your contributions to the thread and hearing your about little one and Max and I would be very sad if you didn't post anymore. It was very brave of you to make this post and I admire you for it, I am inclined to run away when I feel ignored! Big hugs my friend.

That's fair enough, Haybel. You are, of course, quite right. You should have been acknowledged. The post you wrote was long and involved and informative. For my part, I know that I was digesting the info, because I hadn't come across this before, hence why I went away and googled it.
Please be assured it wasn't a deliberate slight. It's down to the frailty of the human condition, I'm afraid. We read things, like them and then forget to say thank you, partly because, I suppose, it is a thread, and so there aren't the physical cues to pick up on.
We should have realised that, because you are worrying about little one's appointment, that you might need some tlc.
I'm really sorry we have offended you. It's never, ever intentional. :(

  • Thank you for being so honest, haybel. I think there may be a variety of reasons that people didn’t reply to your post, ranging from needing time to think about it more, to avoidance of talking about painful issues – with doubtless a whole lot of other stuff in the middle.

But I do think you are right – the value of this thread is enhanced when we discuss mental health things. You will know that I was in the middle of a PM to you when I was going to ask you some questions, and then realised that was stupid – we ought to discuss EMDR on here (I am going to say EMDR LOTS of times. This is in the hope that it will show up on search engines, and that someone who actually knows about it from a therapist’s POV will see this thread!).

Do you know how EMDR relates to NLP (which seems to me to have some good ideas but to have some rather batty ones as well! – although I am open to persuasion)? Do you know whether there are any theories about rhythmic perception of the environment? OK, I made that phrase up, but it’s something I have discussed in the past, and I suspect relates to ‘The Man who Mistook His Wife for a Hat’ – the way he structured his world through music, which you may or may not have heard of. (It’s also an opera nowadays!!!)

Is anyone else interested in my ramblings, or is it just me? :D

interesting read about the ptsd treatment btw, not heard of that one before, thanks for sharing it.

I commented. Admittedly not in detail, and in the middle of a load of other ramblings at silly o'clock, but I did find it interesting and was planning to find more out about it following your information. Please don't be put off from posting by a bit of thoughtlessness on our parts.

JM, I've only come across NLP once via a therapist who seemed a little out of his depth and hence stopped treatment part way through with little explanation, leaving the person rather in the lurch. Didn't exactly inspire confidence, although I guess that's the individual therapist rather than the treatment?

I must admit I saw the connection with NLP, particularly the reference to eye movements.

JM, could you elaborate on rhythmic perception of the environment?
