I love a wee drive around at Christmas time looking at the lights. A lot of people in my area really go for it with light shows and inflatable things and reindeer and so on.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0

Today's been a bit of a weird one.
When I went out my exhaust blew. ( think that's what happened anyway) Second time in this car.Roared to the garage, but had the girl dogs in the car as we'd just dropped kiwi at the groomers. Had to get the dogs out of the car ( they were not willing) and into a coutesy car....embarrassingly had to ask for a grubbier car...and he said nah, you alright, then looked as if he hadn't said that when he saw the boot after big dog left it.
The dogs, especially big dog, were really resistant to get out so I ended up doing a little song and dance routine to encourage them.
I'm worried about the bill. I'm annoyed the car is BACK on the agenda just because we cannot resolve what to do about a replacement car, ( car is a big issue) which means we talk again about the broken car in the barn and what should happen to that and what a nice project would be a. If fir had any time at all ( he has negative time, too many demands on him, he's going to crack) and b. any skill at allSigh.
I drove old / unreliable cars for years and was fine about it. But I'm not up to being stuck away from home now...if I'm unwell and in a car away it could be awful.0 -
For a starter, I suggest smoked trout fillets. Yummy. You could add prawns for WaSpy!
For pudding, panettone is good. Be warned if you get one, get two as they're deceptively light and very moreish. Personally, I'd go for the classic one, not the choc-covered one.
Now, Lakeland sell a Panettone Ubriaco, (Drunken Panettone), which is soused in liqueur. It's very expensive, and absolutely GORGEOUS!, but last year I made my own by buying an ordinary Classic Panettone, spiking holes all over it with a skewer, and dribbling booze into it. However, it soaks up an awful lot of booze, so that probably isn't a good idea for you. Instead, you could try a special soft drink, or freshly-squeezed orange juice, or ginger ale or anything!
Or just eat it as it is!
Another suggestion is a Christmas Trifle. Made the usual way with sponge and homemade custard and double cream whipped, but you could add all manner of fruits, chopped kiwi, (not doggie-Kiwi ), chopped mandarins, orange zest, banana, coconut pieces, flaked almonds, a few chopped walnuts, any fruit or nuts, and some Christmas spices, like a tiny pinch of nutmeg or allspice, some cinnamon, dried cherries or cranberries, etc. and a glug of liqueur.
I love a (good) trifle. I've been known to have trifle for breakfast, if it's left over from the night before!
If you want Chrismas Pudding, all the supermarkets do very small puddings now. I bought two tiny ones from M&S to send abroad to friends. Heats in minutes in the microwave!
LIR, I'm very, very sorry, but you have just got to describe to me your 'resistant dog' song and dance routine! :rotfl: As I can't see it, a detailed account, pleeeeeeeeese!! :rotfl:(I just lurve spiders!)

Have to agree ...not choc panettone. But I'm resistant to all extraneous choc anyway.
com'on doggies, mummy's new car for a day, common doggies, tinted windows all the way, white paint work we can sell drugs, drive fast, cover the windshield with bugs
Lots of sort of ducky arm movements and arm flapping, and stiff knee bending ( bad back day) and stiff limpy jogging in circles between the two cars in a sort of 'tadaa' suggestion movement. ( 15 lessons of dance training for that I'll have you know...)0 -
Whisper:I've never tried panettone. Is that something I need to rectify?
Your dance sounds...interesting lir. I'll bet it cheered the guy up. Did it encourage the dogs to move?
In other news, I've just applied for a new job. It's a promotion and a different building and its very scary.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
CodeM, congrats on the promotion! Yey! Things are looking up!
Your dedication has paid off!
Celebrate with a panettone! Cut yourself a big wedge, then wrap the rest up and put it back in its box, and into the cupboard.
Mysteriously, when you've eaten the wedge, which looks deceptively dry and filling, but isn't, a strange force emanates from the cupboard and you find yourself inexplicably zombie-ing back to it, and then you wake up and find yourself back in your sitting-room, tucking into wedge no. 2.
This happens another couple of times. Then you find yourself in the middle of the supermarket, buying another one. 'How did I get here?' you hear yourself saying. 'Might as well get two, while I'm here, save on petrol.'
It's very strange how panettone has this Doctor-Who-like power over space and time. Very odd.
LIR, I'd love to have seen the garage guy's face! Did it work on the dogs, or did they just give you a withering look and disown you?(I just lurve spiders!)

I have been out all day Christmas shopping with a disabled friend, lots of resting and nattering between shops and bags of stuff in my trolley or hanging from her walking frame . Actually a lot of what I bought was for mebut I did buy some presents and have also ordered a lot on-line over the last day or two.
Darling husband has come home from a long day at work and insisted on cooking as I am tired , he is lovelyDecluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
