Morning! I shall read back in a moment but first I will moan a lot. These headaches/migraine/cluster headaches are driving me mad! I was woken up again by stabbing pains in my head, honestly it is the same pain as when you hit your head, it is that sharp. I see the neurologist tomorrow so hopefully he can find a way of preventing them. The nasal spray works for around 30 minutes and then it comes back. They make me throw up, too which isn't pleasant. Told you I was going to moan, I shall go away and have another squirt of nasal spray and read the thread.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

My parents went vegetarian in the mid seventies when I was 7 or 8 . I've varied in being veggie and trying to eat meat but never really got used to meat. Once we got the chickens a few years ago I would walk round the supermarket seeing little chicken faces around the meat counters so am having a veggie phase again. much simpler and cheaper. Husband buys his own meat when he feels the need

Hope you feel better soon WaSDecluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
Gentle hugs WaS, hope your head is feeling better soon x.
I was vegetarian for years and loved it. I do eat meat now but would happily not bother. If it weren't for the OH (rather more conservative eating habits) I'd hardly eat meat at all. I like a nice steak or something if I'm out but prefer cooking fish or veggie food at home.
I dropped a cup of coffee on my bosses laptop yesterday - oops! Hoping for a less clumsy day today.0 -
Aw, thank you for the hugs and massages, I have had these since I was 14 so they clearly aren't anything to worry about as such, just very painful!
When I was growing up all food was meat and two veg and very plain. My parents didn't like spices at all and everything was served with potatoes. I didn't try pasta until I was 18! Also, there was quite a lot of offal used which I used to eat merrily until I found out what it was at 15 and promptly became vegetarian! I was vegetarian into my 20's, now I eat meat maybe two to three times a week but I don't particularly miss it if it isn't on my plate. Cheese, on the other hand is a daily occurrence. WaSp has to have meat with every meal or he doesn't feel full but a lot is psychological. I know this because when I used to cook I would use tofu instead and pass it off as chicken and he never noticed! With meat I am a huge hypocrite and it mustn't look like animal or I can't eat it. I gave up chicken for 2 years after meeting some and was unable to deal with a whole fish because it had eyes and was looking at me!!! I am not good at eating meat really.
Now I eat very little typically English food. A lot is Mediterranean because it is good for me and yummy and also a lot of Indian, Thai and Chinese. I have herbs and spices in everything, pretty much the opposite to how I grew up.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

One of my areas of study was animal welfare /ethics of animal keeping. I eat meat. Personally I would be only happy to be vegan or a discerning, light meat eater rather than vegetarian or meat everyday person. I am ( in the main) careful about where my animal products come from.....not just meat, but milk, eggs etc. its not the meat that's so hard to worry about, its the 'other stuff' in food that's premade.....few people stop to think about where the eggs in premade cakes come from, or the milk in chocolate. Sadly I break my own rules sometimes.0

That's so true, LIR. I always try to buy high welfare products but I will be honest and say the budget doesn't always stretch to them and being in a city we don't have access to farmers markets and home grown produce. We used to holiday in Suffolk and I loved the little tables outside of people's houses with home grown vegetables and eggs on them where you put money in a little box and took what you needed. The food tasted so much better than supermarket versions, too.
I avoid things like ready meals and most processed food because I find they trigger my IBS, I am far better getting as many basic ingredients as possible to make a meal. but as you say, even with those ingredients there are hidden unwanted extras a lot of the time.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Very true WaS and LIR. I used to work with a guy who kept chickens and got my eggs from him. They tasted so good, and I loved knowing how happy the chickens were
I miss that!

...and just like that after a squirt of nasal spray 10 minutes later the headache is gone as if it was never here. This will last for a while and then it will come back again. This is just bizarre, it is like flicking a switch.
On the subject of food much to WaSp's horror I have decided that we are cooking a full Christmas meal this year. We don't usually bother because I can't cook alone and it puts WaSp's nerves on edge as the last time I had a total memory lapse and decided that I needed to check the vegetables so just plunged my hand into boiling water to take out a slice of carrot (I still have no idea why I did that). But I want a proper dinner for once! We will just have chicken, the budget doesn't really stretch to anything else and it is adaptable to make lots of other meals from leftovers but I want all of the trimmings, too. Does anyone have an ideas on starters? WaSp wants prawn cocktail (left over memories of his mum's dinners) but I would like something a little more exotic.
Oh, and dessert, too. WaSp doesn't like Christmas pudding so there is no point in just me having it. We don't have a freezer so ice cream is also out. I would like to avoid shop-bought and make something ourselves if we can. Preferably something that doesn't involve me hurting myself!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Brie and cranberry filo parcels? They're very easy to make and taste yummy. Also they contain the major foodgroup = cheese.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0
