I like the serenity prayer for these circumstances but it may be a bit of a penguin

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
Courage to change the things I cannot accept
and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I had to kill today because they p'd me off....
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Didn't see what lir and elsien wrote so apologies if I'm repeating. This may also be deleted.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that its difficult to separate unconditional love from unconditional turning a blind eye, even if by doing that you're ruining your own life.

  • I am so sorry code, that is exactly MIL's stance. Thank you for sharing that. There is always a reason why it isn't BIL's fault. WaSp was similar once but his view has changed a lot over the years. Now he does see the reality but still helps him anyway. I do have to say that MIL is quite a big factor here because she gets very upset if BIL isn't helped but I think without her influence WaSp might carry on anyway for all of the reasons that have been mentioned. I just need to stop reacting to it for both of us.

That is wonderful, Whitewing! Made me giggle!

My parents aren't bad people. It took me a long time to forgive them but they were just doing the best they could and they didn't want to turn away a child in need. Unfortunately in catering to that one child, they completely ignored what was going on with the quietest one and put far too much responsibility on me too soon. I still get a bit annoyed with my mum sometimes because she airbrushes history - if you mention the bad times she doesn't remember or pretends not to but they're old now and I think maybe its better to just let it go.

    I love

  • I love the glow worms. Just right for lifting the mood when it gets complicated on here.

I don't totally understand the family things either. I had quite an unusual upbringing and was resentful for a long time. It's taken a long time to realise that it was all well meant and due to my mothers anxiety and OCD and that a good chunk was actually due to my own anxiety and OCD and would have happened whatever way I was brought up......not sure if that makes sense but have to 'get on' this morning as have an appointment for breast screening this morning...yuck yuck yuck but needs to be done !

WaS my balance and dizziness is due to ear conditions, it's been a long battle and very frustrating. I've had various treatments including (very expensive) surgery which have made little difference. I am still being seen at 'A Big London Hospital' but don't think much can be done now except physio to retrain my brain, which isn't really working.

    I need to go

    hugs to all ......
