Good idea about the shells, thank you so much! That would work really well as they aren't smooth so MIL could feel them (she only has sight out of the corners of her eyes).
I shall check out the battery prices. This is what the garage told us, they would source it. That might not be such a good idea...

This may be a penguin WaS but ....
Is there any chance you can go with WaSp one night to celebrate MiLs birthday? As a surprise so if you are not well enough she would never need to know you had been thinking of it so you would not be letting anyone down? As long as you know BiL will not be about.

Funnily enough I was thinking of that myself. It has been so long since we have seen each other that it would be lovely for us both. If I can be sure that BIL won't be there I would certainly give it a try. I think a chat with WaSp is needed.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

I can delete the previous post if I have put my foot in it just PM me.
Whatever you do WaS MiL will appreciate it, it is about the thought not the cost, maybe you could send one of your cuddly toys to keep her company and write to her explaining how Sir P means so much to you and one of his friends may offer the same tactile comfort or something like a heatable animal, the type you can microwave which would also help keep mil warm?0 -
Glad I didn't put my size 7 in it0

Awww, what a lovely idea! I was planning on going out while it was still autumn anyway so in theory once I am out of the house a trip to MIL's is minimal stress, plus it would give me a breathing space of being indoors for a while rather than in the car. I also have 4 hospital appointments next month so they are also opportunities to go over and visit. Thank you for that idea, the more I think about it, the more I think it might be really good for both of us. Without sounding arrogant I think that she would much prefer a visit to any gift that I could give her.Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France

Elderly people love visitors particularly from people they care about and you always sound like you are very fond of mil0

I think your mil would love to see you and see that as a present. I know that my dad's favourite thing about birthdays and Christmases isn't the gifts (he usually gives them away), but seeing everyone together, bickering away. I know you won't be bickering with anyone but it's the same principle. She'll love it. If you can't handle it on the day, she won't know so less pressure.
Today is a gorgeous Autumn day here. The sun is out, it's quite crisp and I've been for walks with the dog through the woods, which is lovely.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0 -
Oh, I adore her and she feels the same way about me. We have always been the best of friends, I even call her mum, she insisted on it! I think a surprise visit is a really good idea, not just for me but if she knows I am coming she will try to cook for me and she really isn't up to that anymore. I am actually quite excited at the idea!Until one has loved an animal a part of one's soul remains unawakened - Anatole France
