I have stopped answering the phone. Sometimes I do this because I have intermittent hearing difficulties, but I know this isn't that. I just don't really want to. I answer my mobile ( as I can hear). I reply to emails.
Our house phones got taken out by lightening earlier in summer and we just have one corded phone, which sometimes I don't hear or cannot get to. We haven't replaced the corded phones yet because the type we need is too expensive and we cannot justify cost ATM. ( we need super long range ones because of the walls here). But all of this doesn't answer quite what I have against the phone. I don't know what it is.0 -
My long hair party trick used to be sucking it into the hairdryer fan. Which had the added bonus of not only giving that burned singed smell but also a fetching tangled/scalped look.
I no longer own a hairdryer.
Lir - my automatic reaction on hearing the phone ring is to think "go away and leave me alone." I think phone phobia runs in the family, my sibling is worse than I am. I just think if it's that important they can leave a message. If they don't leave a message it's probably someone I don't want/need to talk to anyway.
My staff at work used to be incredulous that I'd go out anywhere without a mobile - not that any of them had the number. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
I go through stages like that. Not easy when you run a business!
I always have my mobile switched to silent so I only answer it if I notice that someone is ringing.
I just don't like the insistent 'drop everything and deal with me now' of the phone.
Of course, nowadays I do generally answer anything straight away.
For me, it is an anxiety thing. Not scared of anything bad happening. Just scared of dealing with people.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

I'd rather answer my mobile than the house phone as I know who it is on the mobile.
I often have to put it down or have a panic attack in the middle of a call.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140 -
Complication is that the corded phone has no answer phone, its just the one from our power cut kit, bog standard cheap as chips phone.
So, I miss it forever.0 -
Do 1471 at intervals if you want to check? Or would you rather just not know? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

You could sign up for BT 1571 - costs a little bit.
I sometimes let it go to message then text a reply.
The best way to get over the fear is just to answer it.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

I think I don't want to know.
I suspect one of the callers might be the pharmacy. My prepay cert ran out for two days. Its now renewed. They might have wanted to do my boxes while it was not valid. ( It would be early).0
