  • We are both ok other than there being a BIL sized elephant in the room. BIL hasn't called WaSp so we have no idea what is happening tomorrow, WaSp avoided calling BIL because he doesn't want to deal with it. BIL may turn up at our door in which case there is no way that he is coming in, it is up to WaSp what he does from that point. I would still prefer it if WaSp didn't go for a drink with him but that isn't my call.

I think we are both trying not to panic really and WaSp will not discuss it at all .

I'm glad you've been sorted out, at least they shouldn't get infected now.
I think it's lovely that you will explain things to people even though it's hard for you and makes you uncomfortable.
I hope you both got some sleep this afternoon.

  • We both had a nap so are feeling much better now. I don't mind explaining things to people really, if they learn from it then it is worthwhile. It does make me laugh how everything ends up being about mental health, even if it starts with something totally physical. It helps me, too in a way because I find the more I talk to people about it the more it helps me come to terms with it. Years back I was very ashamed but I have spoken to so many people about my experiences by now who haven't run screaming that it has helped me come to terms with it.

What I keep being staggered by is, and forgive me if this seems rude, is how sane you are. I have to admit if some one had said 'read a blog by this incredible woman with this list of metal illness diagnosis' I don't know I would have expected it to read so .......natural, and normal and not scary. I think you are teaching me a lot. I am ashamed of the prejudice and fear I have about some mental health.
  • Aw, LIR! What a lovely thing to say, that really means a lot. There is so much negativity and confusion over mental heath out there that is totally understandable that people don't know what to expect. I am still the same person that I was before I was diagnosed with anything and that has never changed. I am luckier than some people with similar diagnoses in that I had therapy from the age of 13 so it became part of me as I grew up, in the same way that anything influences a child. That gave me a huge ability to stand back and analyse my conditions that sadly others never got the chance of having.

My psychiatrist told me once that what makes me high-functioning is the therapy I had as a child, the fact I became a psychologist and therapist and therefore understand what is happening to me and the fact that I can express how I feel so well so that professionals know how to help. I am very lucky that all three of these things came together or I very likely wouldn't be living independently now, sadly there are a lot of people with less complex problems who cannot do so through no fault of their own, they just don't have the weaponry to deal with it.

Thank you again, what you said really meant a lot.

I wholeheartedly agree with you LiR, I have learnt a lot and as a result understand more and feel less prejudiced through my own lack of knowledge about mental health.

WaS - I am glad to read you have had a nap and the nurse has been to see you and patched you up and is coming back on Monday.
  • It honestly makes me grin from ear to ear that this thread is helping people learn more. I do hope that I have managed to show that someone mentally ill isn't just that. We are often told that but I think it is different to actually go through episodes of ill health with someone and watch how they cope and come out of the other side?

My life is by no means average in the amount of things that I cannot do or am limited in but for the conditions I have my psychiatrists and I are very happy with how it is going. I will never live like an average person but I don't really mind that for the most part. This has become my 'normal' and I still have fun and good days and relationships with others. All in all, things could be a lot worse and if my experiences help people understand more than that makes up for an awful lot.

  • I wander what Sir P would have to say about that :D

I have found myself applying knowledge and understanding from this thread in real life situations. Made possible by you starting the thread WaS and all the people that have contributed (including the lurkers):T
