  • I have never seen a pear tree. Can't you tell I am a city girl? Thinking about it the only fruit trees I have ever seen in real life are apple and orange, I feel deprived!

Hahahahahahaha! what a wonderful pic, elsien! I would play, there is no way that I could resist those eyes!

    Here you go was ,

I have six pears, this one is humbug, a stripey one. Mine are trained, not in a natural form. And this is not the one the pige was in

And this isn't a good pear tree pic, but as well as humbug, they are my prettiest pears, 'sensation'

( pear trees are not prickly, I grow roses with my pears)

DD wants to eat one, even though they look funny.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.
  • Oh. they are pretty! I never knew pears looked like that when they are growing. I am used to seeing them looking uniformly the same in plastic bags in supermarkets, did I mention city girl? Yours look much nicer!

I wish she were here to white wing! They will hopefully taste very good. The first one fell of a tree today(not one of these two, I think it was an invincible) and I gave it to my resident parent.

Pears the timing for perfection is the headrest I think.

This year I am planting my first medlar though, and those you let 'blet' which means almost rot!

    Hehe, thank you.

Its a learning curve. I'm thrilled we've got them. This is humbug's first fruiting year and the fruit will stay on him till quite late in the season, he is a late one.
  • See? I never knew that either. I kind of figured they all grew together and you plucked off the trees at the same time. I would love to live in the country and it would be very good for my mental health but I would be utterly useless. I would love having fruit trees though, I eat a lot of fruit daily and I would love to grow my own.

Right. I'm posting it on here with the thought that if I tell people, I'm committing myself. If I don't mention it again, life got in the way. Or I've been attacked by zombies. Or something.
    *Takes a deep breath.*
I'm going to attempt the first couch to 5k tomorrow morning. If I don't set a date, it's never going to happen. So depending on how much of a sod Gitdog is tomorrow morning, I'm going to try to fit it in before I give my neigbours a lift at 11.30.

You can grow fruit in a city garden. It won't feed you all year, neither does my garden feed me all year ( partly because I cannot maintain it and am disorganised and partly because we haven't planted enough yet) but its fun. If you get a flat with a little bit of garden or balcony you could grow some stuff. Even just lettuce. :). You could water it at night when no one saw you but you would have to take care of it. :)

    It could be fun. :)

Well done, elsien! I bet you enjoy it once you get started. If you don't mention it again I will presume you are pinned to the couch by Gitdog asleep on your legs!

I would love that, LIR! When I eventually move from here I am going to try to get a flat with a little garden. I have always wanted to grow my own fruit and vegetables and I am quite good with house plants. I have always wanted berry bushes too, I eat lots of those. I have grown tomato plants and chilli plants indoors, plus herbs before.
