  • Eeeek! That's awful, JM! Back when I was working and we used to go on staff nights out there would be odd drunken comments towards our male care workers implying that they were gay because they did a 'female' job. It used to really annoy me on their behalf!

JobbingMusician... here are a few of my thoughts on outcome for an employment project other than employment.

Skills (by this I mean both the practical skills ie writing CV, applying for jobs interview skills etc as well as the confidence, self belief and support to apply. So i guess I mean being prepared for work which leads me into my next suggestion- what about work experience both as an aid to confidence and self belief but also as a way of easing someone into the workplace.

    Volunteering.
    Education
Awareness of self - skills, weaknesses and steps to increase likelihood of employment.
A plan for moving to towards employment.
Identifying or gaining skills for self employment- I would struggle in a traditional employed role due to my mental health but cope very well self-employed.

Just a few of my thoughts...I am sure you probably have them all and then some but wanted to offer them as help just in case.

Well done haybel! Excellent list! To add a few more for JM which are probably already done-

    Increased social opportunities
Learning to work as part of a team
    Greater planning and organisational skills
Appropriate hygiene and dress around others
    Ability to follow instructions
Improved use of public transport to work
    Greater time keeping
    Regular routine and commitment
    Professional interaction with the public

That's weird! I'd imagined him as a small brown terrier type, like a border terrier or some such!!
Are you able to say what sort he is, without jeopardising your anonymity?

Even back when my dad was working haybel one of the interview questions for his company used to be are you married? It was quietly noted that they believed married men to be more settled and less likely to leave or not work hard as they had a family to support. Back then the same question didn't apply to women as they would never have expected a woman to work in the building section and saw their jobs as being less hard work. The offices upstairs however were full of women other than the bosses who were all men. How times have changed...
It's not that long ago that women were expected to leave their job when they got married!
And this reminds me of when I went for an interview for my first 'proper' job, with the Civil Service, in the early 70s, and faced a panel of about six men. At the time I was 'sort of ' engaged, (not officially), and was told they didn't think the job was suitable for 'an engaged young lady'. I remember I just sat there, flabbergasted, not knowing what to say, I was so astounded! They went on to ask how I saw myself in 10 years time, and in my innocence, as again I thought that was a no-brainer question, I replied, 'well, working!" Looking back, they were, of course, trying to ascertain whether I would up and leave to have children just as they'd finished training me. It was for a position that was very unusual for a female, at that time, and involved three years of training. I just remembered feeling bewildered as to why they would ask such questions! (I was very young, and immature for my age!)
    Ps. I got the job!
If anyone can think of any outcomes an employment project for people with MH problems should have (apart from employment! - and I've got self esteem but no way to measure it) then do say!
    !
-An improvement in communication skills - all types - one-to-one, group situations, telephone, IT, with colleagues, possibly also with the general public.
    -Daily routine implementation.
-Responsibilities, (which would also help self-esteem).
-Personal satisfaction (in a job well done), (which would help self-esteem).
-Feeling part of society, contributing to society, (which would help self-esteem).
-A sense of status - job title, etc. Being able to say " I am a 'job title'", rather than an unemployed person with MH issues. (Helps self-esteem).

    Morning Team WaS.

    Penguin

Today we are having a skip arrive. Its to put junk in from the yard and barns, but crucially because I feel ready to put in the things that belonged to a very special horse of mine ( her Mse name was special girl) who died ( that's the penguin, and wAs its definitely not your fault she died, ok? :) ) about 18 months ago. The things I am throwing away are things she used that aren't in a good enough state to gift or reuse but we were still using. I miss her every day but there are all kind of emotions tied up in this. The loss of a companion I had for almost twenty years, who I learnt so much with but also accepting that my physical health is such I cannot ride, won't have horses again. I have also thought a lot about her daughter who died many years earlier.

I plan to put her stuff in first and alone if I can, I think it will be easier, and cover it up quickly.
