My current favourite is fennel, apart from that I drink mint or green tea.
I find fruit teas too sweet but can drink the odd one.

  • Ginger is another of my favourite things and anything mint is an immediate hit! I have been soaking ginger in water and drinking a cup a day since the Fish Oil Of Many Bathroom Trips. I really need to chase up my doctor about that, it has been 3 weeks and the symptoms aren't improving. Somehow I don't think this is going to work...

I am lucky that we have a garden and some herbs. I shove a sprig of rosemary in my hot or cold water ( depending if I want a hot or cold drink) at least once a day, and various types of mint. My favourite mints for this are lime mint and orange mint.

This week I've been harvesting our lavender, none of this is destined for culinary use, this time, and I am off lavender tea, but it strikes me that it has a beautiful purpley BLUE colour, so worth mentioning.

We eat and drink lots of flowers in the rates house hold. Rose tea ( with black tea, twinings do a nice one in the supermarkets) is a lovely mild tea. There is a twining lavender tea too, with earl grey, for those not sure about straight up lavender, which, really, is mainly a lovely colour and smell. I used to love it, but off it ATM. Its been a very lavender year here, so I've been less interested in cooking and baking with it, perversely.

Ooooh, I quite like iced tea! That's a thought. I probably drink on average what everyone else without any medical conditions does but in my case it isn't enough. It drives me mad whenever I am in hospital for mental health reasons because I have nurses chasing me up to drink and watching the level of my water jug. I don't think it is physically possible to drink as much as they would like me to!

Gosh they still have water jugs in your hospital WaS! I'm jealous. I agree that it's just not possible to drink the amount of water that they expect you to, it could be quite dangerous too. First I was told I'm not drinking enough water, then I'm drinking too much :( I only wanted to weee without the catheter, hate them things!
  • I only had a catheter once Duke when my Addisons Disease messed up my kidney and bladder function and I hated it! They're horrid!

I drink a lot of Earl Grey, it's one of my favourites. There is a lavender bush by a house just up the road, that has got me thinking. What exactly does one do with herbs? Cut a bit off and pour hot water on it to make tea? I am clueless...

    I wouldn't use road side lavender. :).

But yes, for little herb drinks, I just put the leaves in my glass or mug and pour water on them, hot or cold. I then drink the water. :).

I know my herbs are cleanish and not very polluted though!

Laverder tea you use the seeds that from where the flowers have been, they dye the water!
  • Oh, how pretty! I won't use roadside lavender but I am curious to try it now. I am wondering if I would be successful growing those little pots of herbs that they sell in supermarkets? My money tree hasn't died so I presume that I am not the kiss of death to plants. It would also save me a lot of money in buying fresh herbs which I use in just about everything I eat. Do they need much care? Remember bad memory problems here!

I had to go home with my first catheter for a week WaS & was completely traumatized! I've since learned that you never, ever, strain to weee after an op on the bladder.

I'd love to try the herb garden on the window sill too.
  • A week, Duke?! I had mine for 48 hours and was crawling up the walls! I can't imagine coping with one for a week, that's just torture! You have my total sympathy.

Not sure about the little pots from supermarkets. Little pots from garden centres or better still in dependant nurseries would be better bets. When we lived in a flat our window sills were coated. In plants, it DOES make things darker though! and dear thing! the last thing you need is LESS light!
