I tell a lie :o They give me bottled water in hospital, I was expecting a large jug. Also on holiday you can't drink the tap water so .... Yeah it can cost a fair bit WaS, but each to their own eh. My sis buys ice cubes! I was just shocked to see people pay for them, maybe I need to get with it :rotfl:

Yes I agree elsien, I never drank much tap water until I had bladder cancer. The Dr told me that drinking tea was the same, but it does aggravate the bladder after an op so water it is for me. I think I've just got uses to it now, as I imagine it's doing me good.

Oooh, didn't know that either, elsien. Perhaps I can swap out some of my coffee for tea. That combined with more water might stop me drying out and getting constant kidney infections. I am so immune to caffeine that I can drink coffee right before bed with no effect. I also get thumping headaches if I don't drink caffeine which is very bad but I ignore that.

I can sleep through caffiene too......but that doesn't mean it doesn't make me edgey. I just find it hard to notice. My normal personality is quite contradictory, I am quite 'taut' and perfectionist ( so don't notice caffiene buzz/jitters, just feels 'right') but welcoming and laughy, so the bounce and buzz also feel right there.

I gave up coffee entirely a couple of years ago, and eat little other source of caffiene ( its hard to avoid entirely, and I', no purist anyway) and it felt a bit odd going from coffee as second nature to not. I am sure I did have headaches and withdrawal but tbh, didn't notice as my neurological symptoms were very bad at that time, and caffeine withdrawal was advised to help with that.

I know drink coffee occasionally. If il feel I 'need' a coffee I self ban for a fortnight.

    Menstrual Cycle
If you crave salty foods a couple of times a month, your menstrual cycle might be the cause. Craving salty foods can occur during menstrual bleeding and ovulation. A research study in a 1994 issue of "Physiology and Behavior" found that women craved salty foods more when they were ovulating and during menstrual bleeding. Researchers concluded hormones involved in menstruation might alter taste preferences.

  • I wonder if I could swap to tea for a while? Addisons Disease on its own can cause dangerous levels of dehydration, plus I need something to flush all of this medication through. Add to that the fact that half of my disorders are drying and it is no wonder my hair is like straw, my skin flakes, my eyes are dry and my nails are brittle. Changing my water intake for the better is probably something I can do quite easily so I really have no excuse. From today onwards I shall look to drink more.

  • Ooooh, I quite like iced tea! That's a thought. I probably drink on average what everyone else without any medical conditions does but in my case it isn't enough. It drives me mad whenever I am in hospital for mental health reasons because I have nurses chasing me up to drink and watching the level of my water jug. I don't think it is physically possible to drink as much as they would like me to!

With the water, you can also put a few drops of lemon juice into the jug. That also gets rid of any hard water taste. Or even a couple of slices of lemon!
Then, if you have some ice cubes as well, you can pretend it's a vodka and tonic! And you can have as many as you like and no hangover!

If you normally drink a lot of coffee, then as Lostinrates says, there may be some withdrawal symptoms, so in that case it might be better to cut down the coffee gradually. Keep the water intake up, though.

I started drinking more tap water when I began Zumba, 2 years ago, because you need to drink during the class. I also don't agree with buying water in plastic bottles, so I got a special reusable bottle made of the type of plastic that doesn't leach chemicals into the water in the bottle, and fill it from the tap. My tap water doesn't taste too wonderful, but after a while I just got used to it, and now I can drink it straight from the tap, especially in this hot weather!

Some years ago I used to use a water filter, but to be honest, I can't say I noticed any difference, so gave up buying the expensive filters.
Honestly, in this country, there is no need to buy water, really! The energy used to make the bottles is enormous, and then there's the disposal factor, as was mentioned before!

    Anyway, I digress.
Re caffeine in tea and coffee, well I recently tried to find more info on the relative amounts in tea, green tea and coffee. However, the statistics I found in various sources were misleading. Some gave values per mg of loose tea/coffee, some per 100ml of liquid, etc., so it was impossible to compare, and it all depends which tea, which coffee, whether espresso or instant, green or black tea, how strong/dilute it is, etc.
I couldn't come to any definite conclusions. All I know is, if I have an espresso, I feel more hyper than if I have a green tea. Nowadays, I only have coffee if I go out for a meal, so it's like a treat. At home I drink 4 or 5 cups of green tea a day, and water.

  • I actually like green tea so I should probably try some of that. I used to drink a lot of herbal and fruit teas too but then I tried nettle tea and came up in a rash and my face and throat swelled up, that was how I discovered that I have a nettle allergy. It put me off a bit but I used to love peppermint tea, I have a thing about minty flavours. Chamomile was another of my favourites, I may try them again if slightly more warily than before.

I have a lemon! I shall try it my chilling jug of water in the fridge.

I love iced tea too. For IBS I drink ginger & lemongrass, I find it works (for me) better than any meds.
