It is from abuse (not necessarily sexual)/neglect. I think there is potentially a genetic susceptibility. This is why I am so careful with my daughter.
Elsien, it is not acceptable that the woman is not getting the right support. There are guidelines to how it should be dealt with. The trouble is, if you feel worthless, it is very difficult to then push for a change of keyworker or push for your rights. Encourage the lady to get a mental health advocate involved. It is such a nasty condition - for me, I had suicidal thoughts every day. It takes a lot of energy. Any good time was marred by the plummeting feeling of loss and anxiety. Even half an hour without a suicidal thought is a precious, precious gift.

ETA: I prefer the term borderline personality disorder, but it's actual name in England is Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder. That is a terrible name. Imagine disclosing that to a company that you work at. If someone who has never heard of it before looks it up online, it is the most depressing thing to read about. The only people who I know with it are on MSE, and they are lovely folk (albeit we are imperfect and therefore occasionally posts may seem a bit odd). I always said to my DH that if we ever won megabucks on Euromillions, I would get it rebranded.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. She's moved on now, we're talking 15 odd years ago. I still think of her though.
Don't get me started on the psychiatric support available (or rather not available) to people with learning disabilities or I'll be ranting away on my soapbox all day. They seem to have their own little ghetto that mainstream services won't touch. You want psychology support? It'll have to go to panel. Oh dear there's at least a 2 year waiting list. We'll be in touch......All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Morning all, 2 seconds before i have to go and play.
SOrry, I've only just done the quickest ever skim read! Should have time to visit properly within the next 36 hours I hope!
I love smilies and think they are the next stage in punctuation - a full stop with a little face.....:eek:Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
At some point this week, WaS, can your DP get a travel guide to Poland from the library or somewhere?
I don't know much about Poland so you can tell us anything that is particularly interesting.
Then, on a regular basis, you can read the guide out loud to your DP. This will have a number of benefits. You will learn about the history and heritage of where your ancestors grew up. You will also get used to hearing your voice out loud and you can practise putting expression into it. This will be good when you eventually are talking to new people.
Also, if this is possible, DP could track down the nearest Polish delicatessen (or if all else fails Tesco may have some polish foods). He needs to pick you a present from the polish food selection so that you can try something.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. I don't suppose you have anything on youtube I could listen to? Providing it won't compromise your anonymity, of course! But then it probably would, so don't worry if it's impossible!
Whitewing, you've got some fantastic suggestions!
I'm learning such a lot on this thread.
I knew that Mental Health was the Cinderella of the Health Services, but what I didn't know was how neglected it is, both funding- and research-wise. I am appalled! I wish I knew someone in power or in the media who could raise the banner for it, in the same way as the lid is slowly coming off the appalling care given to the elderly.
Do you know, if there were EVER a use for winning megamega bucks on the Lottery, this is it.
I'd always thought that, if that were ever to happen to me, I'd like to set up some trust funds, one of which would be for Music Therapy, both for people with physical disorders, but also for those with Mental Health issues, having seen the benefits even a short amount of exposure to certain types of music can do.
I now know that another trust fund will have to be for some sort of research into the biochemical causes of disorders such as yours, WaS.
You know, Watson and Crick discovered DNA from their own privately-funded research and laboratory, (one of them, I forget which, was wealthy), so it could be possible! Yah boo sucks to the pharmaceutical companies if that were to happen!

It may not be as good as it could be but it is hugely better now than it was 20 years ago, much better even than it was 4 years ago (in our area).:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Maybe there is some hope then, but it still seems to have an extremely long way to go. Some long-term media bandwagonning would be good.(I just lurve spiders!)

Pharmas get a lot of bad press. I'm alive because of pharmaceuticals from big pharmas and a bit of grit. And luckily my little anti d is working wonders. I feel exactly me, and ultimately the same things, but less......bleak. I can laugh again, I want to socialise a bit. I'm not suddenly happy with my situation or anything, but, I do not feel inclined to resolve it myself imminently.

TMI coming up........do not read if eating or squeamish
I have got green diarrhoea! (Just in case anyone thought my life was perfect, lol).
I am not unduly worried though. I think the green is from the iron tablets, the diarrhoea is a side effect from the change of meds so should settle down. (I seem to be losing actual weight ie not water, so I am hoping it is the fat running out of my body - not constantly). I will mention it to the doctor tomorrow.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them.
