Aw, sorry to hear you have BDP, too whitewing. Sadly you understand about the criticism aspect then. I take it very hard as do most people with BDP if someone says anything I can perceive as negative. It doesn't actually have to be negative, I just imagine it so.

The most compliments I have had have been about my intelligence and believe me that is very hard to type as it is very hard for me to say I have been told something good about myself. Also I have been told that I am a very kind person, I sort of agree with that one because I do try to be.

Oh, and several internet teenagers that I knew while running a support site said they considered me their internet mum and I always made them feel better. That meant a huge amount as they were teenagers with emotional problems and didn't say nice things easily. In fact some were trolls on other sites and ridiculed others, mostly because they were in so much pain themselves and needed to push it out there. No excuse but it was a teenage way of dealing with anger and isolation and in a lot of cases we worked through it and they came to regret it. I loved them all though, they were all lovely when they trusted you enough to reveal themselves.

You didn't let us down, dibuzz..I always think a good sense if humour is one of the best compliments. The people I like the most are those who make me grin or laugh.

Same totally, whitewing! My partner and I joke all the time, we love laughing together and both have the same sense of humour. I immediately feel relaxed with someone who makes me laugh, it is a character trait I really appreciate in others.

I am going to brave a question for everyone. Does anyone here, posters or lurkers hate smileys/emoticons? Where I don't use them I find I am using more and more exclamation marks to try get over when I am being light-hearted now and it's annoying me. I read on a different thread that they annoyed people and me being me, always scared to upset anyone therefore avoids them. I would like to use them but I won't if it upsets anyone?

Only I could turn the use of little faces into an issue...

Hey sorry to have been AWOL today, had an article to finish (still not quite there!) and samples (halfway there).

I ended up smiling to myself thinking how lucky I was to escape having to say something nice about myself as i find that hard but then i realised it wasnt very fair to opt out.....so.....

I think I am kind and compassionate.
