TESCO REFUSING CHEQUES from 6 AUGUST
Comments
-
Let's face it, cheques are becoming a thing of the past.
I do have a cheque book, but can't remember the last time I used it.
:j0 -
seems to be a trend so tescos arent blameless, most supermarkets and petrol stations round my way have stopped taking them0

unless your stuck behind the person in the line who after putting on the shopping on the conveyor, having it scanned, packing each item in the bags alphabetically, then restacking them in the trolly.. remembers they have to pay..
so goes back to the trolly to retreve their hand bag..
roots arround in the bottom of the hand bag to retreive purse.. searches out the correct card.. puts purse back in bag.. then remembers loyalty card.. retreves purse hands over loyalty card..
hands cards to checkout person.. no they don't want cash back.. but then again let them think.. no its ok.. no cash back.. so they then has to root arround in bag to find glasses.. takes glasses out of case.. enters pin..
Retreves purse from bag, to replace cards..
Retreves glasses case from bag to put glasses back..
files receipt in amongst other receipts sorted by colour and date..
puts hand bag back in trolly, and just when you think we are done.. will stand at the bottom of the checkout blocking the way with their trolly, while they arsk a fellow older generation person about their day.. !!!!!
but maybe its just me that gets  at that.. ??
I don't get these, or maybe I'm just more tolerant of the human race?0 -
Morrisons are stopping/have stopped as well
Personally I think its great!0 -
I read that once upon a time people use to pay for their shopping using a cheque book and a 'cheque guarantee card'.
It was about the same time as pound notes where in circulation.
I havent seen a pound note or someone paying with a 'cheque book' in a shop before. Is it true that these people use a 'wireless' too?0 -
I hardly ever use my cheque book now, only if money is required to be sent by post. My bank will keep sending me cheque books though, think I have 4 at the moment and have to ask for paying in books!Weight Loss - 102lb0

i had a cheque from an ebay buyer not long ago
have mixed feelings about paying by debit card
Clydesdale Bank used to just give cashpoint cards with their basic account which meant i had to be very strict when it came to shopping unless there was a cashpoint within walking distance, but then they decided to get rid of themand give me a Maestro debit card which i still tend only to use in a cash-machine but am always worried about using in a shop

My friend told me that he saw someone pay for something called a 'vinyal' for a 'record player' using a 'cheque book'.
I googled 'cheque book' and I got the result 'blankety blank cheque book and pen'.....0 -
What a lot of knocking comments!
(I'll refrain from listing the spelling and grammatical errors that appear in most of them.)
Ah well.......
I have never come across refusal of cheque payments before, have daily commercial dealings across a broad spectrum and travel rather a lot.
Cheques are nowadays till-printed anyway, not written by the shopper.
I did say I'd reverted to them, not 'refused to embrace progress ', increasingly distrusting electronic systems following several bad experiences in the last year.

If that's the case then all I can say is you really can't get out much as you claim to!
Just off the top of my head, the following no longer accept cheques ..
Shell
BP
Asda
Morrisons
McDonalds
As already stated by Poppycat, Sainsbury's announced today that they will no longer be accepting cheques but you chose to ignore that fact and direct your objections toward Tesco.
Cheques are an outdated form of payment that barely anyone uses anymore and in all probability will be obselete before too long in favour of chip and pin.
As for grammatical errors in the thread.... so what?0
