If anyone wants a bit of inspiration when it comes to what can be achieved though diet and exercise then check this out
http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/may/31/great-britain-commonwealth-games-marathon-steve-way
Basically Steve Way was in his mid thirties, weighed 16 1/2 stones, had high blood pressure, smoked and could not stop eating junk food. He then decided to start running to get fit and at the age of 40, he has not only been running marathons, he has been quick enough to qualify for the commonwealth games:eek:
If he can be this good now then the mind boggles at what he might have done in his mid twenties. Better late than never though.0 -
I've tentatively scheduled three hours of exercise tomorrow and I'm feeling exhausted just thinking about it.0

Yes, I just signed up to my local gym over the bank holiday weekend
I did a class called "tone & burn" on Monday evening, which was 45 mins (or 35 if you don't count the warm up/cool down) of bodyweight exercises like planks, sit ups, burpees, press ups, leg raises...it was hard! :embarasse I think they do pilates at my gym which sounds interesting. I might have to give it a go! I've been using the treadmill for running as the weather here has been awful the last few weeks. Also, I'm less self conscious with other people around me working out.
My OH is out tonight, any dinner suggestions for one?
I used to do pilates it is very relaxing they do a meditation section to finish of the work out and I would almost fall asleep would recommend it.That voice in your head that says you can’t do this is a LIAR!

I've went from being a couch potato to going to a personal trainer since January but am starting to get a little disheartened with my lack of weight loss - I've only lost about 4lbs in that time, and am currently 10st 4 (5"1).
I go twice a week for about 45 mins each, and the sessions seem great - I usually leave completely wrecked and soaking in sweat. I also go walking once or twice a week and have recently starting cycling too.
I have changed my diet to follow a food plan advised by my trainer (not to the letter but as close as I can)
I have a good hearty breakfast of either porridge, weetabix or all bran, plus either boiled eggs or grapefruit. I eat fruit or fat free yoghurt as my snack in the morning, a lunch of salad or last nights dinner and then my dinner in the evening.
Have cut out most sweets/chocs etc - I used to have about 6 cups of tea a day and a sweet thing with almost all of them, this is now down to maybe one treat a day, and even then I can go without completely most days.
I've stopped eating bread and cut down on cheese.
I dont drink that much and dont smoke.
I only eat potatos or pasta at lunch no longer for dinner.
However, this is not being transferred to actual weight loss.People have commented that I've lost weight, but I think they're just being polite, knowing that I'm working out, cause I just cant see it.
I wasnt expecting to be a stick insect by any means, but I was hoping to have some sort of reward.
Am going to gym today again, am going to pay for this month and then give it a miss I think for July and possibly August to see if it makes any difference at all. At £80 per month, its not too expensive for personal training but still it could be better spent elsewhere.
Any tips from anyone as to where I'm going wrong??

As a fellow person that loses weight slowly, I feel your pain!
You just have to keep reminding yourself that everyones' bodies work at a different rates. Yes, you probably could have gone on a ridiculous fad diet and lost a stone of weight in a month, but it would be dangerous and unhealthy. You say your visiting a PT, going to the gym and healthy eating which is the best way to lose weight AND be healthy. Often when you're exercising a lot your body is becoming toned and fat is becoming muscle. People who say you look like you've lost weight are probably noticing your body shape is changing and becoming more toned
If you really feel you're struggling to lose weight, perhaps you should keep a detailed food diary. If you've ever watched Ch4's "Secret Eaters" then you'll know that people don't always realise what they're actually eating. Have you spoken to your PT about your concerns? For £80 I would expect help with my diet.
At the end of the day, if you look good and feel good, what does it matter how much you weigh?0 -
This is why I always say don't too much store by numbers. Bunnie's right regarding exercise - Google a comparison image of 5lbs of fat and 5lbs of muscle.
Go on what your clothes say
(also - "toned" is a hate-word of mine. You're building muscle, but because women generally hate the though of being muscly they say "toning". *chuckle*)

Evenin' All!
Having a rest day from the gym today. Well, I say REST, but actually I have been to work then to therapy, then to the dentist and at some point I have to do the food shop
I am going to the gym tomorrow evening. I have never been during the evening before, and I imagine it'll be busier. Either that or I will get there for 6.30am..not sure about that!
Skea- welcome to the thread! In my opinion, scales aren't the best gauge of how well you are doing. Building muscle means you will either gain (if skinny beforehand) or maintain possibly. Or you could lose a little (fat) and then maintain that because the muscle is being built.
This is why numbers don't work for me. I AM weighing myself, but don't have a set goal weight.
Do you wear a HR monitor, to make sure you are actually getting the most of your workouts?
That said, if you don't feel you are being challenged enough, or you don't feel that your PT is working you hard enough, tell them! Say that you don't feel challenged enough and want to step it up a gear. Or, if you don't feel that they are helping you, get a new PT. Are you going to the gym as well as seeing a PT?
HBS- no 'toning' here..i want MUSCLE!!!0 -
Question: I am looking for earphones that are compatible with my iPod Shuffle, that don't come loose when running on the treadmill.
Can anyone recommend some please?0 -
Morning all
I cant go to the gym today. I normally go to the gym during the day, b between finishing work and doing the school run. But I am working all day today. If I want to go to the gym after school hours, I rely on my older son to look after my younger son, and the older son is off to a friends house after school.
That's OK though, I will go tomorrow morning and Sunday instead. We are also going swimming on Sunday afternoon.
How is everyone else doing?0 -

Try TK Maxx. I was recommended to use the in ear buds that also clip/hook over your ears. I didn't want to spend too much money, but I picked them up at the till for £6.99Morning all

Haven't been to the gym since my class on Monday. Been making excuses not to go all weekI'll be forcing myself to get back to it this weekend! Made a nice, healthy dinner of pasta bake last night...then ended up eating half a big bar of Dairy Milk!
Really need to get back in the swing!0
