First_Trouble, have you tried using a smaller plate? I've done that in the past and it sounds weird, but it did trick my brain :)

I second this advice. I always use a dessert plate now, and that way I know I can eat the whole plateful without feeling stuffed or bloated.

I would prefer adults only session as then I'm guaranteed no kids

Was looking at aquafit but worried there may be splashing

    Yeah could try going early

I emailed and they said the lanes are restricted between 18:00 and 20:00 but then it's the full pool from 20:00 till 20:45

I've asked them how long a session is

    Congrats :D

In my pool there are no adult only sessions. 7-9 am is lane swimming only. The best time for the pool to be child free is lunch times during school term.
There isn't really any such thing as no splashing in a swimming pool, unless you are the only person in there. Some adults splash a lot when they swim.

    Good evening All :)

We had a lovely swim this evening. It was nice and quiet, only about 12 people there.
I felt a bit confident in my new flattering swimming cozzie too :D

My son (14) finished getting changed first and I gave him my wallet and told him to get himself and his brother a snack...when I came out and joined them in the cafe he had bought my a snickers bad. I'd love to say I declined in favour of something healthy, but I'd be lying! I wolfed it down as I was so hungry!

Just got home and am chilling out.

    Morning All :)

I slept like a baby last night!

I am off to work in a bit, but only working until 12.15 so am off to the gym afterwards. I will be doing some weights as well as a bit of cardio today. The instructor is going to run through what weights to use and how to use them properly.
I am looking forward to that :)

    Have a nice day everyone!
  • I used a smaller plate for dinner last night and felt like I was cheating myself but thought well If I am still hungry I can go back for more. I didn't even finish what was on that plate. So I will stick to this will be difficult to begin with until I have retrained my brain.

Last night's meal was Jerk marinated chicken breast with Broccoli

I tend to eat carbs with every meal but I am trying to cut it out of main meals a few times a week.

    a typical day's food is

Breakfast: 1/2 grapefruit, shredded wheat/bran flakes and a coffee (1/2 Grapefruit, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs of a weekend)

    Lunch: Protein, carbs, and veg

    Dinner: Protein and Veg

Snacks: 2x Ryvita with cream cheese and tomato slices, yoghurt and fruit

I try to use the "Eat Breakfast like a King, Lunch like a Queen and Dine like a Pauper" has anyone else heard this?

I eat bread very rarely and if I do it's usually wholemeal or granary. I couldn't live in a world without pasta or potatoes so am trying to just reduce the portion that I have. I have tried switching to wholemeal/brown pasta and rice but my husband was having none of it.

My nan always uses this saying. Doesn't help the diet that when I visit her she gives (or rather, forces me to have) tea and biscuits/cake :o She's 83 years old and the same size as when she was my age! There must be something in that theory!

My OH is out with his work for a meal tonight, so I'll be cooking for myself. I should probably go to they gym as I had a rest day yesterday, but the flat is a mess. Hopefully doing a few hours of chores will give me a workout! :rotfl:

Spoke to my colleague about doing the 5:2 diet yesterday, she was on a fast day. I think she'd had a boiled egg for breakfast and had some tea during the day to keep her going until dinner. I might give it a go next week, but not sure what days to fast.

Hope everyone is enjoying their healthy choices today :)

My MIL is a feeder too. When we go over for dinner it's very difficult to count what you are eating. For example you will dish up your own dinner but if there is say a handful of potatoes left over she will come over and put them on your plate. Then ask do you like trifle? "Yes?" MIL leaves the room and comes back with a huge bowl of trifle and puts it down in front of you. Then an hour or so later she will thrust chocolate bars at you. We always end up coming home with a few bags of goodies.
One time I was trying to be really good and piled up on the veg until I realised that she had put butter all over it!
She is a lovely woman but a danger to the waist line.

Did my home workout this morning but couldn't get through it as well as I used to' it should get easier the more I do it though. I also have my second run tomorrow morning. Started my 8 week beginners running schedule.
I injured my ankle a few years ago and the strength has never fully returned so am hoping with more regular exercise it will improve and I get the benefit of weight loss/health too.

As far as the best time to swim, I would suggest lunch time, at least during term time. I always get a good swim at this time. Or you can just try a few different times and find out by trial and error.
I would also suggest you look on the pools website. A lot of pools run things like aquafit/over 55 sessions meaning that part or all of the pool is closed.
As far as water in your ears goes, you can buy ear plugs, specifically for swimming .Your pool may sell them , or you can buy them in the sports section at Tesco.
I always wear them in case I get swimmers ear (very painful).

Where I am, we have 4 pools in the one centre and for the most part, it's dead on a Friday morning (talking around 9-10am) apart from schools.

I find that my swimming cap is enough for me to not get water in my ears.

Whilst I'm here - been advised to get more potassium in my diet. Apart from bananas, anyone got nay suggestions please? My problem is that I'm wheat intolerant, can't tolerate certain textures and have been advised to cut my fruit and veg intake to 2-3 portions per day.

Sounds a lot like my OH's mum :p If we ever go round hers she piles food onto our plates and always buys/cooks far too much. Around Easter this year we were staying over last minute and she was flapping around trying to find us something for breakfast. In the end we had cereal, then hot cross buns, a cereal bar AND a twix biscuit! She and my OH both have diabetes so she must have known it was bad for him! I think they just get carried away :rotfl:

I've started doing C25K so I'm hoping it will help my weight loss too.
