It will stop a lot of illegal drivers.

Round here they don't have insurance, or tax or even bother registering their car in their own name (if they had a valid licence to drive it), so how is that going to make a difference to the 1 million plus uninsured drivers driving around today?

Correct, it will only penalise "Honest" drivers who can be traced, the chancers will still get away with it.

Just to add that paying by monthly DD is not the MSE way, as they're charging 5% more to people who to choose to pay monthly or six-monthly. For the cheapest road tax, keep paying annually. Same as insurance. :money:

How do they justify this? is it an "admin" charge- for what? How does someone paying monthly cost the Government money that they need to pass on to the "customer"?

clearly it's a convenience charge, for people who cannot organise their finances to enable an annual payment.

I know that., but "They" are touting the convenience of monthly DD ("They" would if it rakes in more money :D)

Insurance is much dearer monthly, as you are charged for the whole year in advance, and are taking out a loan over the year so pay interest.

This shouldn't be the case with VED, they aren't loaning you the cash, and there is nothing physical to justify an admin charge like a paper disc .

    Robdogs ;)
