quidsy, I've even seen you reinforce the stereotypes in this thread! Women are weak "fact":Many women are also too scared to "upset" their partner (urgh) by raising the issue or get accused of being a nag when they do so they "compromise" by taking it on in detriment to their health & well being.
This is not outdated, this is an actual, real life fact.
Assumption that the man is lazy (later turned out to not be true):I'm not talking about him protecting the little women I'm talking about the concept that you probably (although he may do it all himself) do most of the housework, cook, do the shopping, buy gifts from both of you are christmas & birthdays etc & the myriad other things that women do to make life more comfortable that men enjoy but would never bother to do themselves.
I think that the problem is well on its way to being resolved in the UK: house-husbands are no longer "strange" and a couple where the man does more housework is unremarkable. But as long as ancient, irrelevant gender roles are being reinforced by insensitive assumptions and backwards lifestyles, it will never go away completely.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
Nope, no one has said rush, I hardly think 6 years (as we are on the op's thread) is rushing, or maybe you do, perception & all that.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

I have not said women are weak, I have not said men are weak. Please try to increase your comprehension before claiming something that is not true.PenguinJim wrote: »Assumption that the man is lazy (later turned out to not be true):.
Again, where? telling porkies will get you nowhere.PenguinJim wrote: »I think that the problem is well on its way to being resolved in the UK: house-husbands are no longer "strange" and a couple where the man does more housework is unremarkable. Do you, how nice to have that view, sadly reasearch disproves that but why let reality get in the way.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Living together only 9 months! It's living together that will determine one's view on household chores not being together for 6 years seeing each other over the weekends (when it is unlikely anyone would be expected to do the other's chores) and talking on the phone!
Bottom line length of time living together is much more of an indicator of whether it is a reasonable time to get married than how long they have been calling each other boyfriend/girlfriend.0 -
quidsy, the research shows a roughly 40/60 split between male and female housework in the UK, at least some of which can be explained by maternity leave and couples choosing to have the woman give up work to take care of children due to the different issue of pay inequality.Maybe if more women were prepared to work full time they might have more of an argument about equality at home.
An ideal solution!
Sadly, the gender disparity in pay makes it unworkable in the majority of situations, even today. Women usually end up taking care of the children at home when couples assess their earnings and choose the keep the highest.Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?

I'd appriciate a source.
Also in case you were not aware, the issue of pay inequality is part of the whole gender inequality problemthat exists in this country. So it is not a different issue, it is part of the same issue. An issue based on perception, expectation, education, media, nuture & various other factors. To deny one whilst disucssing the other is fruitless.I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

The problem is that it starts so earlier on through choice. DD had just chosen her gcse. She picked computer science add one option that is learning programming etc clearly a progressing field where there is money to me made. Out of over 200 pupils... Only two girls picked that option my DD and another. You can't pick soft subjects to study and then complain that you don't earn the same. The choice is there from the start.0

? I assumed we were citing the same sources. Of course, you don't need me to remind you that UK house-husbands reached record levels again last year and are predicted to again this year, so it's likely to be even closer now. As one in four households have men doing the same or more housework than women, despite the awful gender wage disparity, it seems that the figures bear me out.
Still, as you've apparently got different figures, and I haven't read any recent hours-comparisons, where did you get your evidence for this?Do you, how nice to have that view, sadly reasearch disproves that but why let reality get in the way.

wow, you are joking right? There are more that just IT jobs, paying well in the world. Lets hope your DD isn't complaining to you in 10 years that she is doing the exact same job as the bloke next to her but found out he is on a higher salary/bonus scheme or has been promoted over her even though she has the better record.
You really do need to look at this from a wider perspective as you seem to be very blinkered on this GLOBAL issue.
Whilst on the subject of women studying sciences & computors, there is no reason a girls should have to go into that field if they don't want to, they might be happy working in a a chosen profession with a lower salary expectation but should expect to earn the same as the man sitting next to her doing the exact same job. THAT is the problem, NOT girls chosing not to go into specifically high income, male dominated industries.
And you accused me of being old fashioned! wowzaI don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

No bbc news isn't my choice. I haven't disagreed with your figure, just wanted a source. They are useful. The figures are still around 65-35 but they are correlated specifically to the issues women face in the workplace still. So completely related. Sure more househusbands, more men doing their bit but there are still more who don't. Or do you deny that?As one in four households have men doing the same or more housework than women
So 3 out of 4 not?.
You stated;I think that the problem is well on its way to being resolved in the UK:
You can think it but the research still shows there is a long way to go yet. This site lays out many of the issues still facing women today, why they earn less, the glass ceiling, why they are the main childcares, housework division & why. http://ukfeminista.org.uk/take-action/facts-and-statistics-on-gender-inequality/(reasearch = research, I assume)I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.
