    Hello Chickadees....

What a glorious day to be inside at work! :rotfl:More importantly I cycled to church yesterday ( 10 mile round trip ) and am proper impressed with myself. Cooked today between getting up from my night shift last night and coming back tonight for a measly 4 hours...

More lentil loaf (can't get enough), babaghanoush, crackers, kidney bean burgers, and rice with roasted veg for tomorrow. Can you see a pattern developing in what I eat. :T:T:T.. I fully agree that getting fit and losing weight is 80% food and 20% exercise... if I wasn't eating the way I am now I would be 2 stone heavier ...:(:(:(

Gym tomorrow early morning before a whole day at work - what joy! However I might even manage a swim as well.. YEAH!

My energy tabbies haven't arrived yet and I shan't say any more about them as I used to use them when gyming "back in the day" and can control my intake of them - they can be too strong for noobs and I don't want to encourage anyone to use them.

I still have this weeks £20 fooD money tucked away in my little post-it note.. my £13 bus ticket money in another.. .Pay day arriving next Monday - with another OT session on Sunday albeit it will be ALL DAY and 12 hours long. #groan.

Right back to the grind - might check in later tonight when I get home...

apple muncher - it was the health trainer who referred me. I am seeing him on Tuesday (not expecting great results, have been too sedentary - not from choice)

I had decided not to go back - for a number of reasons. First the fact that someone was willing to help me gave me such a boost - just when I needed it.

Second, it was a bit like that cookery programme where the chefs get given a bag and have to make things with the ingredients they are given - so it boosted my creativity and made me think about what I could do with the things. I also looked anew at the things I already had in.

Thirdly (sorry if this sounds ungrateful - will explain more) the parcel gave me as many problems as it solved. They asked if I had any particular dietary needs and I said I was diabetic. The jar of basic jam was 62% sugar. Now even before my diagnosis I would only have a smear of jam on toast occasionally - so would sometimes have to throw some away as it would take me a year to use a jar. I have made jam tarts which are in the freezer and am trying to restrict them to one a week. the rest of the jar I will use as described above.

Similarly the box of cereal (which was absolutely delicious with honey and chocolate curls) had to be rationed - treated as sweets and the crumbly bits I tried not to have more than a ramekin a day. I only dared look at the box after I had finished and it was 31% sugar.

Now I have no complaint with the lovely food bank people but they are providing a basic service for people in need. However if I brought that food home each week it would be very easy to have too much of the things I must restrict (I am presuming they give similar things each week). Alternatively my cupboards would be overflowing with things I couldn't use (sugar / sugar heavy foods / processed food) and I worry about upsetting / offending the lovely volunteers if I were to go through the bags and start handing back things I cannot use.

When I was first diagnosed as diabetic I tried to read up on nutrition (even the diabetic books didn't agree) as it was three months before I saw a dietician (in a group discussion). I set myself a number of basic rules. Some things I don't have in the house (moreish things). As far as possible I make things myself so I can reduce how much sugar, fat and salt is in them (did this when the boys were small but then as soon as they get paper rounds they go to the place with the ginger clown). I know I can have 3 crispbread, I can have this yoghurt and if I stir porridge oats into it, that helps reduce my cholesterol. I eat as much veg as possible and meat meals usually have lentils added and then veg to bulk them out.

One positive thing I will take from this month (and we are clutching for positive straws this month) is to start experimenting again. If DS3 is going to leave in the next year then there is nothing to stop me going mostly/ wholly vegetarian. I have barely touched my stack of tinned beans so that will be the base for my next batch cook (have the recipes marked).

Hopefully I will soon be active again, feeling much better after two good days. Just have to survive Friday - baking for mum's Church Fair. At Christmas I started at about 9am. My first assistant went home after tea. Her sister and her boyfriend cooked tea then sister became second assistant and we finished at 9pm (naughty assistant kept eating all the c*rlyw*rlies that were for the reindeer antlers. Best bit, after mum (who can no longer do most of what she used to) said 'have you remembered to?' for the umpteenth time. I turned round, said I've been helping you since I was 3 ....yes.... So I have 53 years experience, I know what I'm doing.

I am not doing 12 hours standing up on Friday.

    Evening all

    SFD number 13 today :)

Stayed in all day doing exam marking, think I did 10 hours, but just kept thinking of the money :) Apparently you get paid in instalments when you reach certain percentages completed, so I'm keen to get them done.

Next month is looking majorly bleak due to massive overspending this month, and allocation of exam marking money to the unknown electrician costs, which will arise at the end of July. I also need to renew my passport. I'd rather leave it another month but all the news of the backlog is worrying me (holiday is end of October).

No exercise today but got plenty of fresh air whilst marking outside.

    Morning all.

Today will involve spending money, I am going to the dentist for a check up. I am not going to reach my target of 20 nsd. Yesterday DH spent money on loom bands for DD and paid towards some football goals that DS bought.

I probably shouldn't count the dentist payment as a spend day as it's not a choice. What does everyone think?

    Hello all

Where has today gone? I haven't done much but buy some baked beans and the day is getting away from me.

    Scores on the doors are:

    Food £265/£368.86
    SFD 12/4
    Exercise 16/9
    Hols £309/£309
    Lose 7lb/0
    3 things off the 50 things list/1
Cut down sugar - gave up
    No takeaways 30/23
No weekday wine - lost count

Had a really good week for exercise last week finishing with a fast 8 mile walk with some steep ascents on Sunday. Feel worn out today though.

Last week I swam 84 lengths, walked 12 miles and did a zumba class and this morning I appeared to weigh a pound heavier than at the start of the month:eek: I feel more toned around my tummy though (under the flab ;))

I should hit about 14 exercise sessions by the end of the month, some are 2 hour walks but counted as one session. I might count each half hour as one session next month and have a higher target.

I haven't eaten any takeaway this month which I am really chuffed about. DH has had one kebab and that is loads less for him too.

Not much else to report as we get close to the end of the month.

Don't count it then. I personally don't see a point in having a target for NSD after trying this challenge. As long as I don't waste my money on some rubbish, I could be spending every day.

    Helloooooo June bugs,

Hope you're all well. I just wrote a long post which the new look forum seems to have lost - apologies but at least you've been spared. In summary:

    1. Had a lovely week catching up with old friends and new babies last week.
    2. Now back to reality - seem to have lost the plot a bit.
    3. Have spent far too much in June, just want to get things over with and start July (but must NOT make this an excuse for more spending again).
    4. Builders nearly done - but did not turn up as promised today, so I was later for work - text about 10 to say they aren't coming today, no idea when they will eventually turn up. House is a tip. Still waiting for call back from police.
    5. Completely lost track of NSDs - sadly I feel 3 is about all I've achieved.

Kenyakate - glad you had a good holiday too!

mothernerd - sorry to hear about the food parcel, it sounds like it really was not good for a diabetic. Hope you're OK.

Kat - so sorry to hear about everything with your cousin, she is lucky to have you to support her. I was in an abusive realtionship when I was much younger, it is suprising how long it takes to get out of the mindset of feeling it is OK for you to be treated like that, even when logically and intellectually you know it isn't.

Everyone seems to be doing great with the exercise and particularly the steps!

Dolly - I think dentist has to be counted even if it's a spend you need instead of want, as you have to count prescriptions and they're the same sort of thing?

    Take care all xxx

It was over ambitious and not thought out very well. And I like it:)
