You said she likes hiking - has she tried geocaching which can add to hikes? (basically treasure hunting mainly done on places with good views and walks etc) - if the idea sounds like something she may like (www.geocaching.com ) then maybe a GPS

LOL if you are her son that would be funny... at least she knows you care enough to find something good for her birthday..

I am early fifties and I have a selection of Kipling bags too they are great for travelling as they fold up and are light I have one that fits my Kindle, phone and purse with room for passports and tickets if required. I usually get Amazon credits from my two but my daughter does the shopping and she has very good taste in presents.

I think if I was you I'd give her £200 of John Lewis vouchers so she can choose for her fussy self exactly what she wants.

I bought my mum this for her 60th a few weeks ago, she chose it. I filled it with Chanel face creams & nail varnish, mini champagne bottles, luxury chocolates, afternoon tea voucher for expensive hotel and some vouchers for John Lewis.

Please adopt me as your mum!

What about a £1 birthday card and £249 cash tucked in?

OMG you can take the person out of the Elite, but you cannot take the Elite out of the person.

Think carefully about what your mum likes, and also think about what she may dream of having but has never done this as she has been too busy raising a family......

But remember out of everything you can buy her, just spending time with her will be the most valuable gift you can give her x

    Ditto at 47!

Also loathe Cath Kidston and Radley. For practical bags I like Orla Kiely, but OPs Mum doesn't like leather and all her bags are trimmed with it.

Urgh, radley, that little annoying dog!

I must confess to a small collection of Mulberry bags though:o

Lol, she was very pleased with her presents. I wanted to spoil her as she is fabulous:D
