Why is it so bloody hard to buy a birthday present for your mum?

Why not consider suggesting to your mum that you take her out for lunch, or to somewhere really nice for dinner. Spending quality time with someone and catching up is far nicer than any gift. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0

I don't wear leather and so I gravitate towards Kipling bags.
I use this one as my work bag as it is really functional:

I use this one for casual (this comes in two sizes so go for the larger one):

Or they do some great rucksacks:

I agree with Tiddlywinks - time spent with mum on her birthday is more appreciated than an expensive gift and you will both have lovely memories to look back on. I promised to take my mum for a champagne afternoon tea on Mothers Day but sadly she was too ill to leave hospital & the opportunity is now lost forever.0

One of my sons always takes me out for the day near my birthday we go to lunch and then we go shopping, whatever I would have bought for myself he buys! Another always gives a weekend away voucher and we can then pick where and when we would like to go.
The others, buy candles.......:rotfl:which I love!0 -
I'm a mum and i'd love vouchers for a local beauty or hairdressing salon so i could pamper myself when i felt i needed it, most women have their eyebrows shaped, legs waxed, manicures, pedicures, facials etc x
Not all though so please check first if this is something she'd like.
I have never had any of the above treatments and would run a mile if suggested so would be a total waste of money.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

The idea is nice but my dad usually takes her out for a meal on her birthday. On that 1 he has beat me to it and it would look like i'm copying his ideas.
There's no rule to say that you can't have two birthdays... it's good enough for HRH after all.
How about a paclite Gore-tex jacket... I love mine... Lightweight for stuffing in a bag and totally waterproof and breathable.. Gore-tex is a miracle fabric.

Ummmm... Your mum and I are very close in age.
You are underestimating how a 50 something woman views her age.
My friend (74 and still backpacking) has over 30 Kipling bags in all sorts of patters- we were laughing about it yesterday.
It's not about age but about personal preferences.:hello:0 -
I got this book for my birthday

What about giving her that on the day with an IOU for taking her to London for the day/weekend (depending where you live) and visiting the National Gallery or the Tate or similar.0
