I have to say that I am the junk food merchant between me and OH - if I do the shopping I always buy 2-3 "nice" treats like an apple pie, tarts, or cookies. My OH is a nightmare for a different reasons. Whenever I spend time at his house and say I'm pekkish, he'll say "Oh i've got plenty in". And I look at his fridge and larder and pass out - by "plenty in" he means 2 year old tins of soup, some frozen mince, half a chorizo sausage and a packet of beans! I like to eat ACTUAL meals which include such MAD ingredients like eggs and bread and milk! Once when we came home form the cineme starving, his idea of entertaining me with food was him eating a tin of mini hot dogs and me eating half a pack fo Cheddars!

This week he broke the new he only has £25 to last the rest of the month, so i took him shopping to make sure he had enough food to last the month. When he buys enough food for a week it's one pack of meat and that's it. I Had to keep suggesting stuff for him to buy. In the end he bought 2 ready made pizzas, 2 packs of mince, 2 packs of cold meat, 5 bananas, a loaf of bread, a pack of cheese, 2 pints of milk and 2 tins of beans.

He has no concept of ACTUAL meals (eg last week when i was staying and he had a friend over I suggested getting a pie for evening meal. he got a lovely steak pie and mini yorkshire puds...and that was in, no potatoes or veg and his FRIEND had to buy gravy! So we had 1/3 of a pie and 6 yorkie puds each!!).
  • Ive just read these posts and totally agree with not sending OH to shops... I had been shopping on line and getting the food for about £60 but hubby does the cooking and stopped doing a list. This has meant we've been to the shops for the last few weeks spending £150 each time. Its not just his fault but those pesky kids too....I end up feeeling like mrs grumpy guts ruining everyones day!

Must get back to the on line shopping...

my oh is the complete opposite, unless i tell him specifically to buy stuff he doesnt even if he knows we are running out (i thought you had some hidden is a common comment when he gets back). he never finds the reduced stuff either and doesnt think about buying stuff for the freezer, on the rare occasion we go shopping together (bad back recently meant i couldnt push a trolley) he huffs and puffs all the way round constantly asking if we will be much longer - worse tghan the kids who now really enjoy a bit of shopping

My hubby has never liked shopping, but when i was sick and not able to do the shopping for groceries he went and did it without a word. I wrote out the list and he stuck to it, and this was done a few times, bless him and there were no mistakes. I had to retire through ill health last year and now i do the shopping online but he will bring home our meat from the local butcher as the meat is really nice there, and any wee odds and ends too that we may need he will collect for us after work.

Me and my husband went shopping last night, while at the checkout he remembered that he had'nt picked up the 2 packs of Magnums(on offer at Tesco for 2 for £2) when we got home he complained that I buy more than I need as a pkt of vegimince would'nt fit in the freezer (after his Magnums had went in).He could'nt see that the vegemince would make two meals, and the Magnums were not important in the scheme of things.Mind you what can you expect from someone who thinks food shopping end in the cd aisle.

My bf definately makes me spend more when he is around but quite often shows no interest either. I have to be careful he doesnt absent mindedly wander in the choclate aisle!
He is good though as it literally one or two items he picks up so it doesnt affect the budget too much.

He actually did some baking himself last week and he seems to be becoming more aware of the OS way of life. Im not sure he would follow it if on his own but slowly he is understanding more how it works! He has managed to curb his nasty coca cola habit lately and its saving me money as he did drink about £5 a month though he is now on cordial and im not sure how much cheaper it works out in the long run!

I dread my husband coming to the supermarket with me. What is it with men and supermarkets? - he simply has to buy everything. I buy what's on the list, get to the till, £20 odd quid - bingo. When he's with me it's £50 plus. Nightmare.

    YUP

Mine managed to spend £5:eek: on a sandwich, juice and a cake. I try to leave him at home - its getting easier, as we are on storecupboard / freezer challenge - so i only need to buy essentials to make meals from what we already have.

I pick up stuff on the way home from work.

    Its cheaper that way.
